"Wolfwood had only been gone for an hour or so. He should have known better than to leave Vash alone, especially in a new town where he’s bound to be curious. He’d thought that maybe if Vash stayed his ass put for once, he would run a lesser risk of being recognized. With the wanted man out of sight, Wolfwood had planned to find an inn where they could hole up for the night and rest without too much worry. But that was too much to ask.
Evidently, it takes less than an hour for Vash to stick his nose where it has no business being."
Or, Vash is nearly lynched at the hands of unsettled and unruly townsfolk. Wolfwood rescues him but Vash doesn't escape unscathed. Wolfwood has to put him back together, and learns just how deep the roots of Vash's self-destruction really go.

There’s really nothing around, as far as Vash can see. Just sand, sand and more sand. If his sense of direction is correct, they’re probably only another hour out from Plutarch Ridge - even if Meryl isn’t there, they can at least get some water. But dragging Wolfwood over the dunes will add even more time. And Vash doesn’t want him out in the sun too much longer without water, honestly, because he strongly suspects there’s some heat stroke at play here. There’s a good chance Wolfwood’s condition will worsen by the time they get to town.
Yet, they can’t stay here. There’s no water here, and-

There- is water, if he thinks about it. Which he generally tries not to. But yes, feasibly, he does have water to give to Wolfwood.
