"I've been nervous about today for quite a while, I don't wish to disappoint Mother Superion" Beatrice responded."You were supposed to give the newly arrived orphans a tour of Cat's cradle right? I'm sure you will do a great job. I mean, what can go wrong?" Shannon says to Beatrice with a small smile on her face.
"She could bore them to death" Lilith replies, huffing slightly.
"Be nice, Lilith!" Shannon says while giving Lilith's arm a slight nudge.
"What, it's not like our Beatrice has a knack for entertaining small children." She says.

Summary
Ava and Beatrice have an arragement: Keep it physical, keep it quiet, and absolutely keep pretending they can't stand each other on shift.
It works. Until it doesn't.
Because fires get out of control, orders get ignored, and when it comes to life and death, Beatrice stops pretending, just for a second.
That's all it takes.
The real problem isn't the job.
It's whatever the hell this is.Bookmarked by Rowan_Wren

Summary
Dear Bea,
I’ve started this letter four times now. The first three I threw into the bin. You would have appreciated that, I think, the decisiveness of it. You always said I had no follow-through. Maybe you were right about most things, but not that one.
I don’t know if you’ll read this. I don’t know if any of them reach you, or if they stack up somewhere in a flat in London with the rest of the post you don’t open. I’ve thought about that image quite a lot, actually: my letters in a pile with the electricity bill. The idea bothers me so much.OR: Rio de Janeiro, 1961. Ava Silva arrives from Portugal with a suitcase, a very vague plan, waiting for her life to begin. She finds it, unexpectedly, in the form of a serious British student working the other end of a bakery counter.

Summary
Ava’s mouth drops open. “Me? I’d have to move out? No way. I’m basically built into the woodwork at this point.” She jabs a finger at Bea. “You jump, I jump. What’s that one line you like, from Ruby?”
“Ruth,” Bea corrects quietly. “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you,” she quotes. “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.”
Ava nods with an air of finality. “You’re my forever-roomate, Beatrice. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay.”
Bea smiles, eyes on the floor for a moment before they meet Ava’s. “Okay. I suppose I can live with that.”

Summary
Unbound for a second, Beatrice lifts her hand back up. There’s no dirt, no excuse, but she palms Ava’s face again, just to feel it, just for that special close lipped smile that graces Ava’s face again, just for her to sigh.
She removes it quickly—not quickly enough, too quickly—catching Ava’s eyes when they open again.
“Now,” Beatrice says, voice soft and serious. “Let’s try again.”
Ava nods, the halo glows, her feet leave the ground, and she doubles her time.
—
Beatrice realizes that her touch helps Ava with her training, and, well, things escalate.
