Only two years had passed since. Since Jason had inhaled the cursed decaying dust of that vampire. Since CENTCOM put him under quarantine and locked him away in a plastic coated prison. Since Salim had lost his shield.
Even now in Iraq, Salim found himself buried in the same old sands, memory haunted by a man he could never love. Losing himself to the elements of loneliness as his son studied in Europe.
Jason was still buried in the ashes, in the dust and decay that had befallen on him. Even now having been returned to his family’s farm in Tennessee he found himself forever changed, suffocating further into those caverns of death that suffocated him.
But the shield can not exist without its sword, and there is no desert nor high water that could keep Salim from Jason.Or: Salim goes to America to reunite with his lover/ not yet a lover but they’re so lovers. Oh- and Nicks here too.

Droid is an inventor who’s running out of ideas. He decides to go to his uncles house by the ocean to get inspired and wasn’t expecting to meet a literal merman while he was there. He also wasn’t expecting to find his uncles murderer while on vacation too but hopefully he can multitask.

Dr. Grace is in for a long haul on the way to planet Erid. Unwilling to enter another coma to preserve his own mental health, he plans to spend four concious years aboard the Hail Mary for Rocky's sake. But as anxiety and hopelessness surrounding Grace's past shortcomings and his uncertain fate set in, it's going to take a lot to pull him through.
Maybe a certain alien friend can help, if Grace would let him.

Summary
Roche limit: the distance from a celestial body within which a second celestial body, held together only by its own force of gravity, will disintegrate because the first body's tidal forces exceed the second body's self-gravitation.
As the distance between the Hail Mary and Erid shrinks, as the language and cultural barriers disappear, Grace's health deteriorates and Rocky's worries skyrocket. Scurvy, cabin fever, malnutrition, tension and arguments – their friendship is put to the test when they are faced with challenges they cannot science their way out of. When a sudden Taumoeba emergency disrupts their journey just as they are about to reach Erid's radio range, they are forced to take a detour to Threeworld's Petrova-line to prevent Grace from starving to death.
