    Stratt ducked her head for a moment, and Ryland felt his smile grow. That was a clear sign she was laughing— probably one of those huffy, sigh-laughs she did when he cracked a joke just dumb enough to get good reaction out of her.

    "I decided to get some fresh air," she parroted, leaning down a bit more. "And I'm not, not looking for company, Dr. Grace."

     

    Or: Grace can’t quite get to sleep. Stratt (apparently) doesn’t sleep at all. This goes surprisingly well for both of them.

His carapace tilted up. “Rocky fix beetles, send to Erid.  Then Rocky and Grace go to Earth. Grace will live. Grace see sibling again. Rocky promise. Rocky fix. Grace trust.”
