That's why Penelope does not expect it when she wakes up screaming, flinging herself into a sitting position. Her skull connects with Penelope's, sending a resounding CRACK echoing through the air. Penelope reels backwards, crying out and clutching at their face.
The bloody woman takes several heaving, hysterical breaths despite the physical impossibility of that, and it is deeply unnerving to see her insides while that ocurs. Blood is running over Penelope's hands while he stares at her in horror and bewilderment, before she turns her gaze towards him and all he sees now is animal fury in her eyes.

Summary
Exisora is white as a sheet, scratching up the table beneath them with their claws and gasping for air despite the oxygen mask strapped to their face. Zedaph hurries to their side, slipping hand under Ex's chin to put two finger to their carotid for their pulse. Exisora flinches away from the touch and mumbles, "no," in a wheeze, but Zedaph uses his free hand to hold Exisora's head still, gentle.
"It's okay." Zedaph tells him, sounding like this is far from the first time this has happened. "I have to check, it's okay."
Ex yanks against the restraints, but not like they want out — more like they're checking they're still there. It's strange, the sense that it isn't Zedaph or the touch they're afraid of, but themself, losing control.

The posistion of Living Guildpact doesn't exactly come with a manual. Jace Beleren is meant to be dealing with Guilds; but Guilds are made up of people, and people? Are messy.
Jace Beleren is also a person. And messy. And unless he gets his head in the game, he's going to find that being the Living Guildpact is a job he may not get out of alive.
Update: Lavinia misses the rendezvous and meets with some unlikely allies, Jace is not picking up his summons, and Baltrice decides to see if luck is with her (and not with Jace).

“Oh, hello. Are you from this plane?” A person leans over from the side of Bolas' portal. They appear to be tinkering with it, though Jace doesn’t bother to try and guess how.
“Um. Sort of. I mean, yes, basically.” He clears his throat. “Yes, I’m from here. Uh, not to be rude, but who exactly are you?”
The person gives him a quick sort of smile before returning their attention to the tinkering. “I’m Chromium Rhuell. You probably haven’t heard of me, but I’m guessing you’ve heard of at least one of my brothers.”
“Okay,” Jace says slowly. The name actually does sound a bit familiar. It makes him think of Dominaria. “Who are your brothers?”
“Well, technically I have three living brothers, but I doubt you know Arcades. Do the names Ugin or Nicol Bolas ring any bells?”
Alright, he was wrong before. Now he doesn’t understand anything at all.
