Perhaps he should be more bothered by the fact that he never actually studied or learned this language than he is, but as Alhaitham heads out to investigate the grave with Cyno, to learn what happened to these people, there are plenty more pressing problems to worry about. Assassins, betrayal, and ancient secrets plague them on their path to uncover a dangerous plot that threatens all of Sumeru, and suddenly it’s all they can do to survive. With allegiances shifting like the desert sands and primordial powers stirring, Cyno suddenly finds himself unsure of who can really be trusted, while Alhaitham . . . Kaveh forces himself to tear his eyes away from the TV as another lump makes its way into his throat.
He feels his hands shaking so he placed them under his thighs to stop them from doing so.
But that doesn’t stop from his breath hitching, again a shortcoming for his lungs.
That doesn’t stop his eyes from widening to prevent the tears that are once again threatening to come out.
That doesn’t stop -
It doesn’t stop.
“Sayed Kaveh?”
Kaveh looks down at the source of the voice, a nurse gently kneeling in front of him.
He suddenly feels the stares of everyone else in the room, drilling his way into his body.
Seeing she got his attention - she rises out of her position and dusts her uniform off before stating why she came here.
“We’re sorry for the wait. Would you like to go somewhere private?”
Kaveh nods without question, immediately standing up and following the nurse out of the waiting room.

Vash smiled. Tears stung his eyes. “If you'll have me.”
“‘Course! Plenty of room for ya both. Just imagine it! Wouldn't it be nice?”
Vash closed his eyes. He tried to lose himself to his imagination, conjuring up the scene of a porch swing, a brightly colored kitchen, a plush couch; Wolfwood driving up the road on his motorcycle, healthy and radiant, then cooking later and singing along to the radio.
It would be nice.
OR: Vash and Wolfwood are captured by men after the bounty. Trapped in the back of a truck, hurt and restrained, they dream and make promises.

Any other crowd would have burst into an uproar, but these people had known to expect Vash. He was, of course, the main attraction. So everyone came with their pockets full and their claws sharpened, ready to catch him for themselves and then tear into him.
“Now, for the worth of a sixty-billion double dollar bounty, I’m sure you folks have some good coin to be spending,” the caller drawls with a smug grin.
“Do I get a cut of the cash?” Vash asks cheekily.
Then he abruptly seizes, body going stiff and a strangled scream barely escaping his throat as the tendons in his neck strain.

The true differences in their biology were harder to get used to. The insatiable hunger for food and rest, the light dusting of feathers that scattered his skin, the slight glow behind his eyes. The more Wolfwood had the chance to see them, the more willing he was to believe angels were real.
Laying on the bathroom tile, sharing breaths with the sleeping outlaw, he was reminded how steeped in sin his own kind was.

Here, in a desolate town a few hours outside of Hopeland, there are stories. Townspeople whisper tales of an abandoned church’s resident—shrieks in the night and hisses slithering beneath the doors. The abandoned bell tower still strikes at random—phantoms of services past signaling a bad omen to come. Quick sightings of bright white wings and terrifying claw marks up the brick exterior only add to the rumbling rumors. At midnight, whisps of a sad, old hymn drift into town and lull the occupants to a fitful sleep.
Wolfwood doesn’t believe in rumors like that.

With their father out of the picture, the hospital immediately put them up for adoption. Quickly the paler boy, now named Nai so lovingly by his new parents, was adopted by a rich family. Looking out the window, Vash tried to gauge his current location to update Wolfwood where he was. He started frowning when he realized the streets didn’t match the area where the cinema would be close to. In fact, he was pretty sure they were on the other side of the city, heading towards the outskirts.
Vash glanced at the driver, “Aren’t we going to the cinema?”
“Boss had a change of plans,” was the gruff reply.
