Simon wakes slowly, booting up one atom at a time. The first thing he registers is that he's pleasantly warm— not the suffocating heat of whatever iron lung they had sent him down to die in. The second thing he registers is the plushness of whatever surface he's lying on. There's no harsh metal boiling against his skin. He doesn't immediately open his eyes. His brain feels syrupy and full of fog all at once, and he finds it rather nice to just exist in this soft in-between. He'd done good, hadn't he? Was this Heaven? He died on that ship, in the mouth of a vengeful beast that couldn't recognize its own ghastlyness. Heaven was nice, Simon decided. He liked Heaven.

Whatever he needed to say had to be important, because instead of being offended, Rocky rose to his feet and could barely contain his excitement as he swayed from side to side before Ryland.

Then, waking up several years later and several light-years away from Earth with two corpses who were supposed to be his crewmates. Kaveh’s tattoos are praised by celebrities and magazines alike, but somewhere along the path to his success, the meaning bled out of his art. Then, after ten long years, Alhaitham rides back into his life on a motorcycle - rugged, quick-witted, and infuriatingly unforgettable.
With love laced into the ink Kaveh had long since stopped believing in, something beautiful finally begins to take shape once more.
There, standing beneath the stupid Books sign and holding his helmet in one hand... was Alhaitham. He was older and broader - somehow impossibly more attractive - but it was undeniably him.
Kaveh staggered to a halt in the middle of the street and tried to recall how to breathe as he devoured the sight of the same handsome bone structure he had spent years trying to either find or forget - only now more chiseled, more ruggedly defined... more ruinous.
