I love writing Merthur, but for some reason I rarely get the urge. It started as an accident, but now I lean into the fact that I post one Merthur fic a year at around the same date. They're all unrelated, so read in any order! Please enjoy ♥️

    Summary

The Snork Maiden was just beginning to whistle when she heard a little twig snapping. As fast as she could, she wheeled around, but her stalker was faster still, and ducked out of sight.

Well, the Snork Maiden was frightened, but she was also beginning to get very angry. Whoever was stalking her had scared her and made her look very stupid in front of her brother, and she couldn't abide it much longer.

“Whoever you are, I know you're there!” she said, plucking up all the courage she had. “Now I won’t have you hiding and watching me, so you might as well come out!”

She waited with great tension, expecting some bright-eyed ghoulish lizard to lumber out, or some staring groke or other nasty creature. Imagine her surprise instead when a little round snufkin stepped out, holding something bundled in his arms. He had a pointed green hat, befitting a snufkin, with a lot of lilies clinging to it in an accidental-looking way. He wore a striped dress buttoned at the back, with a neckerchief tied at the collar.

    Summary

“Hullo there! Residence of the Moomin family?”

    “Er,” Pappa said, “yes?”

The stork smiled in a bright if forced way. The shining badge on her chest read ‘Stork Deliveries: Moominvalley Division’. In one wing, she carried a wicker basket, holding a small creature bundled in cloth.

“Residence of the Moomins, son, and adoptive family members, yes?” she said, fluffing up her feathers importantly. “Well, happy day and all that, we have a very special delivery just for you!”

Moomintroll and Snufkin are out, and Pappa has to accept a delivery on their behalf.

    Summary

“It’s a vehicle,” Moomintroll insisted, because he hated to be wrong.

“It’s an art piece,” Snorkmaiden said.

    “Treasure chest!” Sniff cried.

    “Holding cell,” Little My sneered.

“It’s a piano,” said a voice. They turned to see Snufkin at the window, opening the latch and pushing it open.

    “A what?” Snorkmaiden asked.

“A piano!” Snufkin said, folding his arms to lean against the windowsill. “A sort of musical instrument.”

    Summary

“Now, now,” Snufkin told himself. “It could be a coincidence…”

A coincidence, that a poem with the exact same title and opening lines as his own work had made its way to publication? Unlikely.

Snufkin didn’t have his original copy to compare the stolen poem against. He only enjoyed writing poetry. Afterwards, he never really wanted to revisit it or share it. He just left the old notebook behind somewhere and procured a new one, ready to start again.

There was no denying the familiarity, though. After hearing it in Moominpappa’s voice, he couldn’t remember when or where he penned it, but the work was certainly his.

That didn’t solve the issue of how this De Hemulton fellow had come to claim it as his own, or why.
