Grian was just an ordinary player, that's the truth. According to him.
Was it really the truth? Or was that just what he made others believe?
And if it wasn't the truth, how much more is hidden beneath the sunshine surface?

“Guys, this thing’s gotta go.” He glanced towards Cas and Sam, hoping the ghost of confidence could diffuse the desperate hint to his voice.
“That won’t be easy-” Cas tried.
“Then burn it off!” Dean growled. “Cut it off!”
The only response he was provided was Cas’ excuses as to why Cas couldn’t do it himself.or

Summary
With letters from Reynolds tightening like a noose, and his financial plan on the brink of either failure or success, his legacy teetered precariously on the verge of ruin or creation. He and Laurens had understood each other very well.
“Did you want to survive the Schuylkill?” Laurens had asked, when they were alone and a few drinks in.
“I must’ve done. I did survive, didn’t I?”
“You’ve never seemed to want to live enough for my liking.” Hamilton shrugged.
“Can you blame me? I never thought I’d live past 20.”
Laurens hadn’t pressed the issue. Alexander suspected he’d realised he didn’t want to know the answer. -

Summary
His heart stuttered, filling with a foreign warmth, something that felt so right that Crowley couldn’t imagine how he’d not noticed its absence. His breath caught, and his mind spun, and he could only stare at Aziraphale with a wonder and affection. A greater care than Crowley had known before, more potent than that he’d held for humanity, yet deeper rooted than he’d held for any individual - as though to remove it would tear apart some of his soul.
...
Aziraphale’s breath caught as he suddenly processed the warmth in his chest, the raw emotion clouding his gaze as he could only stare at the demon responsible. His mind spun as it hit him just how long that feeling had sat in his chest, having gone unnoticed for so long due to how right the sentiment felt, like it was meant to be there. Was this what love felt like?

Summary
Beelzebub stalked the room, and if it weren't for the aggression in their footsteps, Crowley would've said they were pacing. He wasn't restrained by anything except the generic sigils binding him to Hell, leaving him free to make a run for another part of Hell, yet he made no such attempt.
The reason they didn't bother with further restraints was because Beelzebub knew Crowley wasn't that stupid. A twisted compliment, and a completely correct assumption; he was smart enough to know when he was trapped.

In the end, what are we but ghosts?
Monuments to the dead, to what we once were. Maybe that's why the games kept repeating, or maybe we were just entertainment. But to the pawns, it's hard to forget the feeling of your heart ripping wide open.

Summary
“Why don’t you stop then?” House asked. “You know things will be better. Anything’s better than this.”
Chase shrugged. “It’s easier to keep going.”
“Is that who you want to be?” House asked, tone uncharacteristically gentle. “The guy who takes the easy way out?”

Summary
House had suspected something was off about Chase since the beginning.
Sure, the guy had the résumé of a trust-fund kid who’d never had to fight for anything, but there was something else. Something about the way he moved. The way he lingered a second too long when standing up, like he was waiting for his body to catch up with him. The way he sometimes gripped the edge of a desk, a counter, a chair—like he needed to.

Summary
“Hey! No. No. Stay awake.” Bob slapped his cheek lightly again, terrified of how light the contact felt. “I don’t— I don’t know what else to do if you stop breathing again.”
The confession came out small, almost childlike. For all the noise in the room (the dripping faucet, the sound of John’s ragged breaths), the silence that followed it was louder.
Bob stayed there, one hand hovering over John’s chest, just counting each uneven rise, whispering under his breath:
“Please don’t make me do this again.”
