Hux’s datapad chimed again, a call from Kuat this time, and he sighed aloud at it, exasperated. “What?” Hux leaned back in his chair, eyeing the holographic figure seated across from him, the shadowy form of their TIE cockpit barely visible around their body, the entire image emitted from the steel inlay in the far wall that Hux used to transmit his speeches. Hux carelessly knocked over a good half of the physical chess pieces in front of him, putting his bare feet up on his desk. His projected guest scowled at him. But Hux paled at the words that met his ears through his datapad. 'Jedi are with the rebel group that bombed the fueling station...the girl is here.' He ended the call without a goodbye, returning to the other conversation he’d been having, up until this point quite pleasant. “Ren.”

Vague 1940s/50s AU. When Brendol commits Hux against his will to a mental institution run by Dr. Enric Pryde in order to make him more compliant, Hux quickly loses hope that he'll ever see the light of day again. The only way out is by submitting to Dr. Pryde's treatment plan and agreeing to do everything Brendol says, and Hux has never been one for bending his will to anyone. He endures months of ill treatment, before seemingly sympathetic orderly Ben Organa arrives on the scene. He seems to like Hux and to want to help him, but Hux has always had a hard time trusting anyone. If he doesn't want to lose himself in this place, though, he might not have a choice.
