Jacks frowned again. “Did you forget me?”
Evangeline blushed. “No, but this little baby needs more attention right now.” She stroked the ‘baby’ in question.
“I need attention too,” he replied, his frown deepening. He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her toward him, and Evangeline almost dropped the fox. “Let’s go inside.”
“Jacks!” she chided, although she could feel her heart beat dangerously fast when he brushed his lips over her jaw. “The poor thing could have been hurt.”
His breath skimmed over her lips. “I don’t care about that fox. I like you far better.”

Summary
Spoilers for The Ballad of Never After
After vampire Chaos had killed Evangeline, Jacks uses the four stones of the Valory arch to travel back in time, realizing that he cannot save the girl he desires without changing the course of the Magnificent North’s history. Selfishly, he turns the time back to the day that she first came stumbling into his church, broken-hearted and desperate, in order to prevent her death, which had unfortunately wiped all her memories of him too. He knows now what he needs to keep her by his side, until the end of time.

"You were always meant for me," he whispers darkly against her lips. "And you know it deep down." As he pulls away from her for a moment, he gazes into her eyes with hunger. "I don't care about Luc at all," he admits. "All I want is you."
He was right. She has felt undeniably drawn to Jacks, not only a physical attraction, but he pulled at something deeper and more primal within her. She wants him badly, wants his touch. She wants to know what it's like to surrender to him. “B-but I don’t even know you?”.
