Death. How much meaning there is in this word. How many fears, expectations, unanswered questions. People have always sought to peer beyond that boundary, to find out what it means in their life journey. To avoid it by any means at their disposal. And now, one person will have to face death head-on, see something that no one else will ever know about, and run away. But even so, will there be a place for her in this new life and world, so different from the one she knew before? How much pain will she have to endure, how much hope will she have to find and lose?

The task she must complete. She - Lace, has the task of killing the princess - Hornet. She, Lace, is obliged to show her loyalty to the citadel, and to show that she is not a cowardly ant, but a real warrior. She is obliged to do it again. But does she... really want this?

Only by chance, she finds herself in a completely different world for herself. It's not new to her to see other species, but it's new to her to communicate with them, to find a way to approach them, and to unwittingly study them. As they do you. That's an interesting observation.

Summary
After nearly a seventh of my life so far spent completely alone, I needed contact. Anything. All of my own personal effects that I brought in order to stave away loneliness and sexual urges did nothing for me. I was left even lonelier. Watching video after video of human copulation did nothing to ease my desires — part of me envied these people, how they could effortlessly touch one another, bringing each other’s bodies pleasures unfamiliar to me.
The only person I was with could not survive my touch. I had already touched it once, and it was permanently disfigured as a result. It’s [skin] marked with the perfect shape of my claw. I couldn’t stand it. Not any longer. Grace needed satisfaction, and so did I, and if it was mutually pleasurable, then maybe I could be absolved of the shame I felt about omitting a single feature of the toy I gave it.

Ryland Grace hates that sentence.
Heroes volunteer. Heroes aren't shoved onto spaceships and sent light-years from home.
After learning that taumoeba can consume xenonite, Ryland gives up his chance of ever seeing Earth again and turns the Hail Mary around to save Rocky.
Rocky is thrilled.
Ryland is not prepared for Rocky's constant hovering, concern over his eating habits, refusal to respect personal space, or the sudden revelation that Rocky and his mate Adrian have apparently been looking for a third.
Three years to Erid is a long time to spend trapped on a spaceship.
Especially when Rocky has decided that Ryland belongs with them.
