Summary
They watch a Christmas movie JJ’s never seen before, the kind with way too much snow, actors who look like they’ve never been cold a day in their lives, and a happy ending you can clock from a million miles away. When it gets late, Big John glances toward the window, where rain has started tapping hard against the glass. JJ follows his gaze and thinks, Hopefully snow later. Not for the magic of it—he’s learned better than that—but so he can pack a handful (probably more) down John B’s shirt and make him squeal like a wounded seagull.
“You staying over?” Big John asks, voice rough but casual, like it’s no bigger a deal than when he asked JJ earlier if he wanted seconds.
Or, in other words, this is my Secret Santa prompt for the beloved Stupidthingsgoodoutcomes, where JJ learns throughout the years that Christmas belongs to the people who care enough to stay; and yes, very goofy, very co-dependent Jaybe energy coming right at you!

Summary
“He’s just really sunny. Like, everything feels better when he’s around. But he doesn’t get a lot of… good stuff. Not like we do. And I think he needs someone to love him. I just… I love him. A lot.”
Pope looked thoughtful, then shrugged. “That’s okay. You can like whoever you want. I think it’s nice.”
John B nodded, the tight feeling in his chest easing a little. He didn’t have the right words for what he felt—not yet—but he knew it mattered.
Even in third grade, it mattered.
OR
An intimate exploration of John B’s attempts to understand and define the profound connection he feels with JJ over the years.

Summary
He still didn’t totally get why he cared so much—why he kept looking for signs JJ was okay. But maybe he did know. Because no one deserved to come home to the kind of shit JJ did.
Not even a guy he barely knew.
So he knocked.
OR
John B, newly evicted and lonelier than he wants to admit, moves into 2A—right next door to JJ Maybank in 2B, a classmate he barely knows. But thin walls and the angry voice of JJ’s father, Luke, make it harder and harder to pretend he doesn’t hear what’s really going on—and even harder to stay a stranger.

Summary
John B’s always noticed JJ’s firsts—the quiet ones no one else sees. The first time he told the truth without flinching. The first time he reached out, not because he was in pain, but because he wanted to. They’re small things, easy to miss. But to John B, they mean everything. Because each one is JJ letting himself be known. Letting himself be loved.
OR
Years later, John B writes those first down—the quiet turning points that made them who they are now.

Summary
Tyler had been fine, he had worked so hard to be fine. It had taken years. College was going to ruin it, it was going to take away every little bit of fineness he had worked so hard for. Josh had watch Tyler rebuild his mental health when he was only thirteen years old and now he had to watch it be broken down and he didn't know how long he could take it.
Or
Tyler was sexually abused as a child now six years later he's starting college and the stress is bringing back memories, anxiety and his depression. Being away from home, away from his family and away from Josh doesn't help. So as things continue to fall apart, Tyler's mental health degrades. Set before Regional At Best but as if Tyler went to college and had known Josh throughout childhood. A canon divergence if you will.

Summary
There was a phone on his lounge room table.
It was Tyler's phone.
It had been Tyler's phone for two years. But for the last two weeks it had been resting on the wooden surface. Every time he saw it, he could barely bring himself to think about it, so it just stayed there, untouched.
