Summary
Poor kid, he had time to think before his eyes traveled from the body covered by the heating blanket to the young man's face.
His heart dropped in his chest and his whole body turned cold with fear.
“Oh god…Whitaker?” he said as his eyes landed on the very familiar face.
The young man was deathly pale, skin waxy and lips blue, but there was no doubt in his mind that this was their former med student that he hadn't seen in months lying lifeless on the gurney, body covered in blankets, c-collar around his neck and breathing tube in his mouth and secured to his face.

Dennis doesn't get matched with PTMC or the emergency department. Almost a year later he is brought into the ER in critical condition. By then no one has heard from him in months.

Summary
Dennis blinks at him, fingers moving weakly.
“You're hurt,” Dennis says, voice shaky and every breath wheezy and painful.
“Just stay with me,” Robby grunts and moves his arm to Dennis' side in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
He ignores the pain, ripping through his own body. Ignores the anguished gurgle from Dennis lips.
‘‘Keep your eyes open. Stay awake for me!" He pleads.
It's starts as an ordinary shift but ends in absolute horror.Robby and Dennis are attacked and end up badly injured. Robby is more concerned about his intern than himself and everyone else are left picking up the pieces.

Summary
Signal after signal rings through and she's about to give up when he finally accepts the call.
There's a weird shuffling noise in her ear.
“Huckleberry, where the hell are you?” she says
For a few seconds there's only silence and her stomach twists unpleasantly. She presses her hand to her other ear to try to cancel out the noise around her.
“Trinity…I don't feel good…help…”
Her grip around the phone tightens and she looks at Dana and Robby and her heart picks up speed.
His voice is hoarse and weak and he seems out of it.
“Where are you? What's going on?” she asks.
“Really…tired…something's…wrong…”
He coughs into the phone for several long seconds.
“Trin’ty?...pl’se help…”
The words are slurry and he struggles to get the words out, his breaths rapid in her ear.
“Where are you? Talk to me! Huckleberry? Tell me where you are.” she says frantically.
There's nothing but silence in her ear.

Summary
The curtains open and suddenly Santos is standing there. Her eyes immediately land on his injured arm and she shakes her head.
“Not so bad my ass” as she says “This is not a “little” sprain, Huckleberry!”
“It's definitely not,” Robby agrees with a sigh. “We need to call ortho for this, not to mention sending you up for X-rays. It doesn't look good.”
Dennis falls and breaks his arm. He's reluctant to get help but he's going to get it anyway.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker has a secret. He is homeless and currently he’s living in a closed off section of the hospital and he’s absolutely terrified someone will find out.
He also has asthma which he hasn’t told anyone about either. So technically he has two secrets. Although his asthma isn't really a secret. He just hasn't had any issues in years so he hasn't found a reason to tell anyone about it. He also hasn’t found a reason to renew his prescription for his medicine because even if he needed it he wouldn’t really be able to afford it anyway.
Unfortunately having asthma and being homeless isn’t the greatest combination, especially not when you had flu season, brutal shifts in the ER and the merciless cold weather outside.
Or…
Dennis manages to keep his secret for exactly 6 weeks and 3 days but then everything starts to crumble and all his lies and secrets unravel, one by one.

Robby didn't hear anything after that- his eyes glued to the gurney they were unloading. The face, swollen and bloody, above that neck brace was enough to make his heart stop.
“Whitaker?,” he gasped, his own voice sounding almost silent behind the rushing in his ears.

Robby is covering night shift when Dennis is brought in by paramedics. Can the older man successfully help him recover when he has so much healing to do himself?

“C’mon pup, let’s get you home.”
“Text me,” Robby says, catching Jack before he walks out of the room.”Please.”
Jack nods, and after a moment, jerks his head towards Dennis. “Say another goodbye.”
It’s clear Robby doesn’t need to be told twice because he sweeps the (now standing) Dennis into his arms and kisses him, carefully, lingering a little too long. It’s almost as if he’s trying to memorise the taste, reassuring himself again that Dennis is warm and he is breathing and he is here safe and he is okay, because when he pulls away to kiss Jack it’s a whole lot more desperate, his hands fisting in his husband’s shirt.
“Call me if anything changes,” he says again, and Jack nods.
“I will,” Jack promises, and Robby nods, casting one more worried look over at Dennis.
“I love you.”

Dennis trudged up to his room with heavy feet feeling bone deep tiredness. He changed and got ready for bed. Settling into bed Dennis noticed the longing churning his stomach and wait when had he started shaking? He felt so scared but somehow he was unable to crawl out from under the blanket."
