Philza struggled to keep standing straight, dizzy from blood loss, a white-knuckle grip on his sword.
“I have heard much of you, emperor Philza, and I have respect for you. Therefore, I’ll offer you a deal. You will surrender. You will kneel before me, right here, right now, and beg for mercy. Then I’ll take you to the Nether with me, and you’ll become my prisoner, slave, and personal servant. Or-”
The Blood God raised his netherite blade, pointing the tip straight at Philza’s heart.
“-I will allow you to die with a sword in your hand, and once you’re dead, I will slaughter your children.”
Philza fell to his knees without hesitation.

Philza had been prepared for a lot of things when he was taken as a war prize: the loss of his basic freedom, the heartbreak of being separated from his sons, the indignity of being reduced into the piglin king’s “pet”.
What he hadn’t been expecting was for the man behind the blood-stained mask to be soft-spoken, or good-natured, or tired from the weight of his crown.

Tsunade walked around the desk and sat directly next to Iruka, turning both of their chairs with a casually powerful grasp. In the end they were facing each other, not the desk. He tried and failed to hold her gaze. She reached out and tipped his chin up, forcing him to look at her again. Another hit landed. This time it came from Iruka's left. It felt like it must have shattered bone, ribs grinding against each other in his chest, and Iruka bit his tongue almost until it bled to keep from crying out.
“Tell me, Iruka-sensei,” Tsunade said. “How long, exactly, have you been feeling Hatake Kakashi’s emotions?"

Sent on a mission he feels wholly under qualified for, Umino Iruka is sent to investigate the sudden shortage in quality inksticks under the guise of a cultural exchange. With a potential succession crisis putting a vital village resource at risk, Iruka would be less stressed if his mission didn't involve weekly reports to the jonin who makes it his life mission to rile Iruka up. To make matters worse, instead of blending in as he hoped, he somehow managed to draw attention to himself as a traveling freelance photographer takes an interest on him his first night there.
