He could hear Rocky’s voice in the back of his mind, chastising him for stalling. He left Rocky’s side, his hand hovering on the barrier for a bit longer even though the rest of his body was moving away. He climbed up into the control room, triple checked that Mary’s autopilot was programmed for Earth, and then pressed a series of buttons to turn the spin drives back on. The ship shuddered and groaned in its reliable way, rewaking its bones after drifting for so long. Its tones seemed to say: “You’re going home, Grace.”
Rocky dies to save Grace's life. Amidst the grief of his best friend's death, Grace decides to return to Earth. Nothing goes according to plan.
