He quiets the rambling with a sharp, “Listen to me, Mason.” The boy obeys.
“You will stay with me until I say otherwise. Now,” Grate shifts his hips forward subtly, “what happens next will happen - the outcome does not depend on what you do or what you want to do.”
When Grate’s free hand drifts to his pants and starts unbuttoning them, Mason eyes widen and struggles against the tight grip around his wrist.
“No— hell no, fuck no, I- I’m not like that.” His voice is a higher pitch in fear, and Grate groans.
“That’s alright. I’m not gonna hurt you anyhow.”

“Are you sure, Miguel? This is like the third time this month…” Her knowing voice is static in his ear, the worried tone grating instead of comforting.
“Lyla, I am up to my neck in anomalies and rogue universes—you’ve seen that,” he shouts, gesturing to her with a claw. “I am on the edge of setting Peter on fire, or at least sending him into a dimension where somebody else can take care of him because I am so busy that I can’t even get a shocking meal.” As he speaks his words get choked with his rising tears, surprising both him and Lyla.
He continues, his voice getting higher and more desperate with each word.
“Please, please— I- I need it, Lyla. I need you. Please. I’m sorry…” Miguel cries, he begs; it had never been this bad, both of them knew that.

Miguel only grunts and nods, his chest tightening. Lyla pops into existence in front of his eyes, giving him a thumbs up.
The huff he readies gets cut off as a cold, slick finger presses and swipes over his tight ring of muscle. Miguel jolts in surprise, and the doctor must’ve known it would happen as the hand on his lower back keeps him still.
The finger slips in agonizingly slow.

The first mate understands too, his eyes widening.
The hulking frame of the captain suddenly blocks the light from the entryway as he stands in it. His dark hair curls by his ears right under the dark brown, three-pointed hat he wears. His captain’s coat is blue with dark red accents like spiderwebs. And his eyes are a fierce red that glare straight at the first mate.
“C- Captain Miguel—“ The first mate’s voice is weak.
“You motherfucker!”
