Summary
He can't explain it. One day, Arthur's swinging a mace at the boy with the big ears and red neckerchief and the next, he's tackling a man twice his size for having the audacity to look at Merlin wrong.
Or, Arthur protects Merlin over and over, falling a little more in love each time.
“You’re the only person in the world that I think really sees me Merlin.” Arthur confesses. "Forgive me then, for wishing harm on the people who would hurt you for just being who you are.”

Summary
“Have I ever been a good manservant?” Merlin asked, because he couldn’t very well say ask me for something else and see what I wouldn’t give to you. It should have been more insulting that this of all things was what finally made Arthur relax.
Merlin confuses a typical favor with one of the gift-giving, courtly variety when Camelot hosts a winter tournament. Arthur tries his hand at courtship.

Summary
'The damage seemed to spread out from him like ripples on a pond, and it felt like a gift, like a blessed reprieve to find something that affected only him. The hunger was the one choice he could make that hurt no one, endangered no one, nudged no prophecies with clumsy elbows. Besides, having a secret was nothing new. The revelation was having one that didn’t matter.'
Merlin doesn’t eat properly, but he doesn't think it's a problem. Arthur disagrees.

Summary
There are things between them that they never mention or bring up.
They don’t talk about the time when it was just the two of them alone in Arthur’s chambers late one night, nor every night after, or all of Merlin's wounds and scars, or about what they do on 'hunts' and once a quest is completed.
They don't talk about it. Until they do.

Summary
It was easy enough to forget how Merlin's eyes had glowed when he'd made wet wood burst into flame. It was small moment, after all. It wasn’t as if Arthur had noticed anything else.
Arthur, very quickly, began to notice a lot more.
(Arthur realizes a lot of coincidences happen around Merlin. More specifically, magical ones. He bends over backwards to justify them, and he finds himself falling into accepting magic, as well as maybe accepting that he's in love. Not that he'll ever admit it.)

Summary
The creatures stepped forward, long, narrow muzzles agape. The sun did not deter them, merely setting their subtle scales agleam. Thick saliva dripped from their jaws, smattering on the ground, yet they did not lunge forward to strike. Instead, they waited, their gaze unblinking as they stared.
At first, Arthur thought they watched the knights, but when he shifted his stance, their eyes did not follow him, Instead, it was someone behind him who held them captivated.
Merlin.
-----
A chance encounter with a monster in the woods makes Arthur realise just how powerful Merlin's magic is, and the lengths he would go to in order to keep him safe.

Summary
Merlin felt them – a weighted, clattering presence – mere moments before Gwaine's soft curse coloured the air. Three bones, increasing in size, hung from a branch, knocked softly against each other: gruesome tokens strung up as toys for the soft breeze. Nor were they the only ones. Every few paces, there were more, nestled in trunk hollows or strung in strange shapes. They picked out a path ever deeper, where the trees grew tall and thick and old, indifferent to the fleeting, human lives that crept beneath their bower.
When Merlin and the others stumble across a grim discovery, it falls to Merlin to set things right. Can he undo the dark magic wrought upon this place, or will the price of the attempt be more than he can possibly afford to pay?

Summary
They are in Arthur’s rooms, safely tucked away from the rest of the castle, when Merlin casually leans forward in the low burn of the fire and lights a candle with a flick of his hand – an action that would have damned him days ago and that still sends a strike of fear and apprehension through Arthur’s stomach. There is the fear and the magic, and the fear of the magic, and then there is the way Merlin’s jaw looks in the firelight.
It has been days since Arthur discovered Merlin’s magic – days since he first felt the brush against his skin. He is unsure, suddenly, which part of Merlin is which – what is the magic and what is the man (for Merlin has surely become a man). Just what, Arthur wonders, will he risk to find out?

Summary
The other nobles didn't have to tolerate pointed comments about their intelligence or the size of their waistline (which had not changed an inch, no matter what Merlin said.) They did not have to suffer messy chambers and the frustration of a manservant who would not do what he was told unless it suited him.
And perhaps Arthur was petty, but it did give him some small satisfaction to see Merlin scowling at him from the edge of the duelling ring.
'He'll turn you into a frog,' Gwaine said cheerfully, swearing as Arthur dodged the blow of his sword and smacked Gwaine's exposed side with the flat of his own weapon. 'Chuck you in a well and leave you there.'
Arthur discovers there's a difference between knowing Merlin has magic, and truly seeing it for himself.

Summary
Wright scuffs at the ground with one dress shoe. “Maybe looks aren’t the most important part of a good tree.”
Miles pinches the bridge of his nose, attempting to cling to sanity. “A Christmas tree is, by definition, a decorative object.”
“So? It’s also something I’m going to have in my apartment for two weeks. I want to like it for more than its looks.”
Miles glances, entirely coincidentally of course, at the large ax propped up against the lumberjack-themed Instagram photo-op wall.
—
If, a few days ago, Miles Edgeworth had been asked whether he thought a Christmas tree could be life-changing, he would have answered no.

“When he walks by the window in the bathroom, the sky outside is dark and starless, with a tiny breath of warmth amid the bases of buildings at the horizon that says daybreak is kinda thinking of coming soon but hasn't quite made up its mind yet.
Before it even occurs to him that he could do anything else, he's at the peephole, and there on the other side, on his front stoop, is Miles Edgeworth.
And Phoenix can't tell if it's the weird fish-eye effect of the glass between them, or the odd otherworldly tinge to the light at this hour, but he doesn't look so good.”After the events at the Cohdopian Embassy, and quite possibly the worst three days of his life, Miles shows up on Phoenix’s doorstep at four in the morning and demands a denouement.

Summary
Due to a slight misunderstanding about magatamas, Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth are unexpectedly married.
Thankfully, there's a simple enough process to annul the marriage. All they have to do is drive up to a temple in the mountains and perform a quick ritual.
The only condition is that they can't consummate the marriage...but obviously that won't be a problem!
...Right?
