Summary
Sherlock manages to get a bad sunburn - bad enough that he will need his good friend and flatmate, Dr. Watson, to help him apply aloe cream, in between bouts of snark and misunderstandings. John will finally be confronted with the scars on Sherlock's back and the accompanying scars on his heart, and then finally be in a position to start healing both.

Summary
What would have happened if John had helped Sherlock dismantle Moriarty's network? After the fall and funeral, John despairs, but also embraces a glimmer of hope—that Sherlock is alive. Sometimes wishes do come true.
This alternative universe follows John as he and Sherlock work to hunt those who seek to harm the ones they love. In the process who knows, they may even save each other.
This story diverges at the end of season 3. There is no Eurus (thank you very much).

Summary
"You don't have to --"
"I know I don't." But Sherlock leaves anyway, spurred by equal parts anger and shame. He promises to be back in 30 minutes with the forgotten milk for Rosie's evening meal.
He does not return.
Later, John will think of that last glimpse of Sherlock's face, the tired hurt, the start of tears. He will think that maybe Sherlock has simply decided to be done with this, to be done with him.
Still, maybe he'd better call Greg, see if anyone's caught a glimpse of the man. Just in case.
Across town, Sherlock plots escape but hopes for rescue, trapped in a situation that he cannot talk his way out of.

After moving back into 221B with Rosie, John discovers that Sherlock has been hiding a chronic health condition caused by John's attack on him in the morgue. Together they navigate the fallout, becoming a family in the process.

John’s cursor flashed at him, motionless and reprimanding. He should finish writing up that case, John thought absently, but he found himself completely ignoring this sound advice and creating a new post instead.
Then- don’t ask him how or why or any bloody question because John really had no clue- he started writing.
Dear Sherlock***
John Watson- divorced at 37, recently moved back home, tentatively in love with his best friend- has had a lot to deal with recently. Finding his way back to his old life isn't simple, not even when Sherlock makes it as natural as breathing. He figures, if writing silly love notes takes a little off his shoulders, what could be the harm? It's not like Sherlock would ever know.
(Sherlock must not know, dear god- not when it could mess up everything John worked so hard to come back to.)
In between dangerous new cases, ridiculous new pets, injuries and broken hearts, Sherlock and John slowly find their way to where they belong. And perhaps that is- and always was- together.

There's a little girl in this hospital who is hurt because Sherlock failed. And at her side, there is a father who will never speak to him again.

Summary
John Watson is an ex-army trauma surgeon turned A&E doctor. He knows how to stop a bleed, how to restart a heart, how to bring someone back from the edge. He works long hours in fluorescent-lit corridors where everything is urgent and nothing is quiet. It keeps his hands busy. It keeps him moving.
But there’s no emergency procedure for what comes after Sherlock Holmes. No protocol for the kind of silence that follows. Grief doesn’t respond to pressure, or sutures, or CPR. It just sits with him. In the walls of the flat, in the clouded edges of memory, in the things he didn’t say when it might have mattered.
He saves lives by night and loses sleep by day, drifting through London’s streets with too much whiskey in his system and too many ghosts at his back. Sherlock is dead. John knows that. Some nights, it doesn’t feel like enough of an explanation.

Summary
Sherlock and John are living together at 221B with Rosie, both assuming that their friendship and found family is as much as they can reasonably expect from the other. This would have continued, had Sherlock not gone missing, and had the scrappy black stray cat not appeared under Sherlock's bed.
As Greg and Mycroft continue the search for Sherlock, John and Rosie get to know their new pet, coaxing it slowly into accepting care and affection. But as Christmas approaches and John misses Sherlock more and more, he resolves that when he finally gets him back, he won't ever let him go again.

Summary
Captain Watson to the rescue! Series compliant until beginning of Season 3 - then all bets are off. Sherlock, off in Serbia, has been captured and severely injured. Mycroft recruits John to aid with freeing him and then overseeing his recovery. The story begins in London but will explode in Serbia, slide into a European hospital and then tiptoe through a safe-house before returning to Baker Street.

Summary
The covid lockdown has finally been instituted in the UK, and Sherlock and John are quarantining in two different places. John's at Baker Street, where he's trying not to go stir crazy, is learning to adapt to the shift to telemedicine, and is keeping an eye on Mrs. Hudson -- and finding he's missing his flatmate much more than he'd anticipated (well, once the novelty's faded of the lack of alarming items in the refrigerator and not having to cope with his personal belongings continually going missing). With all of the unknowns about the coronavirus for the elderly population, Sherlock's chosen to lockdown at his parents' home to help out, and to be on hand in case of emergency. Being apart brings challenges to the two friends, and over the course of the next six weeks they'll find that they end up in a different state of mind from when they parted.

The cutting jibe has its intended effect on Mycroft. The older Holmes clutches at his umbrella, his knuckles bleaching white.
After all, that’s how she got her hands on Sherlock in the first place.

An over-zealous MI6 agent has put Sherlock and Mycroft in a corner. The only way out is for Sherlock to take on an insanely dangerous undercover mission, alone.
John deals with it in the same way he dealt with Sherlock being in danger the first day they met - with all guns blazing. This time, though, he's going to need a little help from his friends.
