“Specialist?” Ilya asked, his tone wary. The word sounded uncomfortable in his mouth, so Shane tried to fill in the gaps.
“A doctor. For omegas.”
That threw Rozanov off for a second. “But you are not omega?”
Shane scrunched up his face, creasing the skin on his forehead and around his eyes. Taking a deep breath, he dropped the first of his two bombs. “No, Rozanov. I am. I’m an omega.”
He heard the Russian hum on the other side, considering this. “Makes sense. Is why you are so pretty. And why you have such nice ass.”
Shane’s ears burned. “Shut up, stop talking about my ass.”
“But I can still talk about how pretty you are, yes?”

Summary
Shane’s nearing 40, and while he knows he still has good hockey years left in him, he needs to be realistic. He’s ready to begin what he’s started mentally calling, “The Final Act.” First order of business, signing with the Ottawa Centaurs. He’s won four Stanley Cups with the Montreal Metros, but Shane’s always dreamed of retiring in his hometown.
Sure, he’s a little nervous about being teammates with his career-long rival. But he and Rozanov aren’t kids anymore. Truthfully, Shane’s giddy at the thought of ending his career alongside Ilya. It definitely has nothing to do with the crush he’s been harboring since draft night.
Shane’s going to win another cup (or two). He’s going to retire after a few solid years with Ottawa. And, my god, he’s going to flirt with his rival. Even if he plans to never confess his true feelings.

CCM wants two separate shoots, and Shane and Ilya never get the chance to start their journey together. Nearly two decades later, they’re finally in the same place at the same time. They’re playing on the same line and might actually be friends. But two rookies with hearts in their eyes are going to make the vets reflect on what could’ve been.

The Centaurs are, unsurprisingly, weird about it but become the best support system they could ask for as Shane and Ilya navigate the choice to fully begin their lives together and love each other out loud.
