Summary
Neji wakes up from a five-year-long coma to an abundance of life. Everything is different, a new life entirely. The war is over, Konoha is rebuilding, the next generations are born, his friends are married, with family and happy. There's finally peace. But when Neji returns to the Hyuuga Compound, he finds that his life had barely changed.
Meeting Sasuke is completely coincidental. Both of them kept surprising each other, with Sasuke offering help to someone he barely knew or met, and with Neji never ridiculing Sasuke despite the last thing he remembers of Sasuke is when he’s still a terrorist. They couldn’t be more different, but, detached from their friends’ new phase in life, they find space outside the happy bubble while awkwardly supporting each other.

Summary
It is with this heavy heart that Sasuke accepts being Naruto's shadow; both in life and in love. He watches his so called soulmate fall into a natural rhythm of domestic bliss with the Hyūga girl. She is a pleasant, pliant proxy for Sasuke: inky tresses, reserved and bright eyed. Where she smiles & supports, Sasuke can only bring himself to simmer with scorn.
So, like clockwork - like the assured waxing and waning of the moon - Sasuke allows Naruto's difficult presence back into his life, once a fortnight. He allows the anesthesia of their physical bond to numb the horrible truth he's always known: Naruto loves his dream and imminent future more than he'll ever love Sasuke. And as long as he can have everything he’s ever wanted, he doesn’t mind if the only way to keep Sasuke within reach is in cuffs, in chains, in an eternal cell.
In a sick joke between cruel gods, Sasuke finds begruding companionship in the other Hyūga: the prodigal, doomed son. The spare to Naruto's precious heiress. The irony is not lost on him. Fate - unlike him - has a sense of humour.
