Opal wailed and II could’ve sworn he felt the stone walls of the chamber vibrate with the force of her anguish. The princess was openly weeping now, her fingers curled into fists tight enough to turn her fingers white.

Summary
His time spent alone on Isla Nublar had been a nightmare in more ways than one. Not only had he been left behind, but he hadn't known the others were still there until he found them. He truly thought he was alone, back then. And being abandoned like that had left its scars.
He never blamed Darius for being unable to rescue him, but the fear of loneliness was a tenacious creature and had become a drive for Ben to always stay close to his found family. Safety in numbers. Strength in numbers. Survival of the group meant survival of the individual.
Ben's entire system had been rewired because of his experiences, and he didn't know how to fix himself.

The Nublar Six have made it home, but the damage caused by their time on the island leaves its scars and nightmares. While trying to find a way to fit into society again, the CEO of BioSyn invites them to see Sanctuary for what it has become thanks to their efforts. Claire's eyes widened when a young man stepped out of the bushes beside the dinosaur. The mercenaries trained their guns on the lanky kid, but Wheatley quickly held up his hand and they stood down. He frowned deeply, eyeing the boy up and down for a long moment.
"You're really here," the boy said quietly.

His wrist is snatched as the man follows him, and he pulls IV to a stop, but IV doesn’t turn to face him. He doesn’t want the man to see the traitorous tears in his eyes. He thought he was over this. He thought he could face his past and just let it go, but these people are dragging up all his worst memories and he just wants to go home.
“I’m sorry,” the man says softly. “I’m sorry for whatever happened to you and I’m sorry you think you can’t make music anymore. But I don’t think you want to give up on it, do you?”

After a horrible car accident, IV isn't the same anymore, and he refuses to ever touch a guitar again... Then he meets III.

Dazai has bled through his shirt completely now and Chuuya takes out his pocketknife and simply cuts it off him. Dazai complains with a whine but, once again, Chuuya ignores him. He takes the ruined shirt off the other and chucks it into the abyss to be dealt with later.
He opens the med-kit and says, "This is going to hurt. A lot."
"I know," Dazai wheezes, and he wipes blood off his lip. "I can handle it."
"Stop saying stupid shit or I'm going to knock you out."
"Charming," Dazai rolls his eyes.

Summary
Some Gods are benevolent. Some are dangerous. Others are kind and generous.
Some wish for the God-vessel—to possess him like Sleep does; to possess the answer to questions they have that may not be answered by other beings but by a human who has experienced the worst side of life.
Some Gods want power. Others want malevolent things. And even then, some just want to be seen.
But they all want the attention of the God-vessel.
When they don't get it, they turn to those closest to him.
II, III, and IV are in no way prepared for the trouble they find themselves in when the Gods turn toward them instead of Vessel, who cannot answer questions he doesn’t have an answer for. Sleep tries to help but can only do so much to dissuade the others, and stopping a war between all-powerful beings is not on the God of Dreams’ to-do list.

The road stretches out in front of them, long and dark and mostly empty. The windows are cracked to let the air in as they drive, and they can hear to toads and crickets hidden in the tall grass. Somewhere ahead, the moon is dropping lower toward the horizon, a pale sliver slipping down through the trees.
He glances over to the passenger seat again.
Vessel catches him immediately, like he always does. “You’ve been staring,” he says, voice soft with exhaustion.
II lets the corner of his mouth lift. “Can’t help it.”
Vessel looks at him for another second, smiles something that makes II's heart ache, and turns back toward the front window.

Summary
It's one thing to run from destruction by dinosaurs; it's another to sit in uncertainty knowing someone you love is in pain and is teetering on the edge of death.
Ben had warned Gia that dating him may come with risks and while she thought she understood, nothing could have prepared her for the phone call she receives. Kenji already lost one family; he can't lose another. Waiting for news about Ben is torture and there's nothing he can do.
Now, both must navigate the long night and the feelings of helplessness, but at least they don't have to do it alone.Setting the stage for future Gia/Ben/Kenji relationship.

Ben made to follow everyone else, but stopped when, in trying to sprint forward even a single step, a sharp sting rattled his right side and stopped him right in his tracks. He grimaced at the pain, instinctively going to place his hands over the throbbing spot. But he froze when he felt something. Something pointy, a bit sharp, sticking out of the spot.
He didn’t even react as Sammy collapsed and the others fell over her. All of his focus was stuck to the three spikes impaled in his body through the thin fabric of his shirt. The exact same spikes that were trapped in Sammy’s left side.
AKA Ben gets hit by the Scorpius, too :))
