They were both laying down in the back of kenny's dad's pick up truck when the lighter haired boy finally spoke up "Hey ken can I talk to you about something."
The other boy nodded. He was willing to listen to anything his friend said at this point just to get his mind off things.

He couldn't brig himself to say anything but the tears that welled up in his eyes spoke for him. The poor boy had been through it.

In the end Tolkien had his own objective overall.
Tolkien doesn't see himself as the jealous type but when push comes to shove he has to assume a role of jealousy that will lead him to getting closer with his best friends girlfriend.
