Ryland’s whiteboard has cycled through a couple different phases. First, it held his scattered inventory of memories. Then, calculations charting the path to Rocky. And now, having saved Rocky, columns of figures devoted to rationing food for the journey to Erid.
Near the bottom corner, circled three separate times, are the words: WE WILL MAKE IT :)
Well, you learn that there is a special kind of hell reserved for the first person to discover a problem, because now, even four words scrawled across a whiteboard can mock you. You see, here’s the problem you’ve found: Turns out there isn’t enough food on the Hail Mary for both of you to make it to Erid alive after all.

Summary
He pictured Simon behind him pressed all along his back, hot and heavy and breathing like he was barely holding himself together. Simon’s hand over his mouth. Grace wanted it so fucking bad. He wanted Simon wound past thinking, past all that restraint. Wanted Simon’s teeth at his neck and Simon’s hand low on his stomach, holding him still while Grace fell apart against him. He wanted Simon making those broken growling sounds into his skin like Grace was prey, or food, or home, or some fucked-up fourth thing Grace didn’t have a word for.
Grace’s knees bent; he was barely standing.
He bit down on his lip to keep quiet and pushed his fingers deeper.
A low breath came from in front of him.
“Grace.”
His eyes snapped open.
Shit.

Summary
Ex-Con Simon Lang has been working at Murphy's Grocery- the family-owned grocery store in his Grandfather's hometown -for about three years, now. Though he lives with his grandfather, the Murphy Siblings- Office Manager Adrian, Floor Manager Ava and fellow cashier Tony -consider him practically a part of the family. So when Adrian's husband Rocky makes a new friend at work and brings him along to Simon's birthday party, and the Murphys see how much he and Simon hit it off, it becomes a collective mission to get the two dumbasses off their asses.

Summary
Simon is the new history teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle and he likes his job. A lot. It's fun teaching the kids and it's nice being able to adapt to civilian life. The only hiccup is the science teacher next door.
Ryland is excited to befriend the new history teacher, but for some reason he can't seem to have a normal conversation with him. Like ever.
