Ilya was fed up of the way his condition meant that some foods that were off-limits but when he saw the spicy chicken along with the smell of it making his mouth water Ilya decided fuck it and ate the food enjoying every single bite for a short amount of time before the stomach cramps kicked in. Ilya had spent the rest of the time trying to ignore them but Shane had noticed his discomfort and quickly made an excuse for them leave.

Summary
That was no longer a sore spot for Shane anymore but Shane felt guilty for being the reason Ilya had give up everything for their relationship. Shane knew it had been hard for Ilya to be with a team that never won any games after being with a team that won cups and championships for so long. Shane needed to know something and hesitated before asking "am I still a problem you never want to go away, no regrets about leaving Boston already" softly.

Shane only knew that what Ilya spoke about that day had been hard for him because Shane could hear the anguish in his voice over the phone and Shane buried his hand in Ilya's hair not even hesitating "you don't need to tell me what you said that day, I know it was private for you and I did tell you to just say it in Russian if it made you feel better, I just wanted to be someone you could talk to about things" firmly. Ilya knew that and he loved Shane for saying that as he silently looked up at Shane feeling caught with the way Shane was looking at him so tenderly before admitting "but I want to and I need to tell you because you're getting too good at this Russian thing and you're going to know what I said some day" firmly.

When Shane starts learning Russian it reminds Ilya of the confession he made to Shane over the phone when he was in Russia for his father's funeral. Ilya feels like Shane will eventually figure out what he said that day so he decides to tell Shane what he said during that phone call. Shane tells him that he doesn't have to tell him anything about it but Ilya tells him anyway along with some other things Ilya had been keeping to himself.
