Follow up to a rework of Wolfbird where Shane and Ilya meet at the shelter instead of at Wolfbird.
They've gotten back from a summer at Shane's parents cottage. Ilya is back to working at Wolfbird and volunteering at the shelter.
Shane is back at the rink in pre-season training.
Their lives are blended but still with separate bits, I'm curious about what challenges will be coming up next.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov, a professional dom, lives in the space between. Between shifts, between countries, between versions of himself. Control is what keeps things from falling apart. Control, and distance.
Shane Hollander lives the life that might have been his. He spends his NLH career closing distance, closing gaps, moving toward things instead of away from them.
When a chance meeting at the animal shelter crosses their paths, something unexpected carries between them, like a call, waiting to be answered.
*This work is a remix/ heavily inspired by Wolfbird (OpalApparition), including people and locations. In my mind, a “what could have happened if they met in a different way and made different choices.” It’s sweet, has (mostly/eventual) soft landings, and features many puppies who absolutely did not ask to be a part of this, and one very dramatic chiweenie who did.
Thank you to OpalApparition for the encouragement to write what I love.

Having Shane and Ilya meet at the shelter instead really softens everything between them and healed something left beautifully but painfully raw in WB.Really well done. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride

So far has been very sweet story of two lonely lovely men opening up and getting to know one another and being surprised at their automatic willingness to be vulnerable with each other...with some nudging from their BFFs sveta and rose.

More progression on deciding that they want to work together in addition to being together, and that they want to try to set up a life that will facilitate them being together rather than just hoping it works. Very sweet actually.

Therapy sessions, some talking, little hits of integrating their lives and also realising that maybe they can but don't want to live alone anymore.I am checking back and refreshing the page on this every few days, hoping for an update. Absolutely love this AU and the writing is lovely.

Summary
Ilya watched, silently, for years. Watched how his father raised his voice, raised his hand, against his mother, against them.
Until something inside of him snaps, until he can no longer watch as he he hurt his mama.
Grigori, who was supposed to be the person who stopped bad people.
Ilya, who, just once, follows his father's footsteps.
Irina, who makes sure they make it out alive, taking them to a place where the past could no longer hurt them.

Born to the guns
soul_wanderer6yo Ilya has enough of his father's abuse of Irina. The consequences of his actions have Irina calling in favors and fleeing to Canada.
Ilya and Irina meet Yuna and Shane at the rink. Ilya doesn't speak much, but feels safe with Shane.
School sucks, but Ilya reacts too harshly when Shane is picked on by the older kids. Both kids need some time to come down, but still find comfort and safety with each other. (Seriously this is so sweet)
Showcases Shane's autism and Ilya's problems with overwhelming anger.LRch4
