Standing beneath the heavy, silver glow of the full moon, Ilya looked devastatingly beautiful. The harsh neon lights from the strip threw sharp, colorful shadows across his features, highlighting the strong clench of his jaw and the thick texture of his curls. But beneath that usual mask of Russian arrogance, he looked incredibly young. Almost cute. It was a soft, vulnerable side that Ilya never allowed the media or the fans to see, and Shane was the only one witnessing it.
Looking at him, a sudden, terrifying realization hit Shane with the force of an open-ice hit.
Fuck. I'm in love with him.
Or
What if Shane actually said "I love you" first? What if he said it in the most cowardly way possible, before Ilya confesses in his Russian monologue?

He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. Closer than he probably should.
A year after mysteriously dropping out of the 2009 draft, Shane Hollander is signed by the Boston Raiders, right behind Ilya Rozanov. Having the two biggest stars in the league on the same line is great for Boston — but playing alongside their worst rival was never exactly in Shane or Ilya's plans. Especially not when staying away from each other starts to feel just as impossible as getting along.

I've read this twice/thrice and it's been chaotic and delightful every time. Deserves to be out into a "supportive Boston" compilation/collection
