“My lord” and “my love” are really very similar sounding phrases, and anyone could make the mistake of mixing them up. However, of course, Arthur would never ever let Merlin live it down.
Whether Merlin’s lord or his love, at the end of the day, first and foremost; Arthur Pendragon is a giant Prat.

“Gwaine,” Merlin informed, and he was just teasing Arthur, trying to rile him up about his ego. “Is the whole package.”
“Gwaine has the concentration span of a newborn lamb.” Arthur declared, angry, and Merlin rolled his eyes.
Arthur has an unreadable expression as his eyes dart over to look at Gwaine, then back at Merlin.
He scoffed and grabbed his own sword before marching onto the field, Merlin watching as he dropped his hands off his waist, rolling his eyes exasperatedly at Arthur’s constant peacocking.

“Oh really?! I hadn’t noticed, I thought we were making incredible progress stopping the walls of doom!” Arthur shouted and Merlin gave him a deadpanned look, arms crossed.
“No need for sarcasm.” Merlin grumbled and then shook his head. “Come on then, tell me your deepest, darkest secret.”
“Why do I have to go first?!” Arthur complained. “Merlin! I order you to go first!”
“You can’t order me to do that!” Merlin shot back. “Just for that, you go first.”
“How does that make any sense?” Arthur grumbled.
“Tick tock, you’re wasting time.” Merlin said, though the worry was slowly growing in his voice as the walls inched closer and closer together.

Trapped in a slowly crushing box of doom that is cancelling out Merlin's magic, Arthur and Merlin are forced to reveal a secret the other doesn't know to escape.

“I am not fucking Arthur,” Merlin hissed under his breath and Gwaine groaned.
“That’s the problem!” Gwaine shouted. “Look, dealing with all of your will-they-won’t-they shit was all fun and games before but now it’s pissing me off. He’s so uptight lately and you’re not around to calm him down and stop him from bullying the rest of us. So just get over it and fuck him, loosen him up and spare the rest of us.”
“I am not a martyr for the sake of your feelings,” Merlin stated.
