“You want to talk to people about me?” Shane asked quietly.
There was something small and confused in the question. But Ilya was still furious and raw.
“Well I would,” he sneered, “if there was anything about you that was fucking interesting to talk about! It would be nice to not be so fucking bored and miserable!”
The second the words left his mouth, he watched the pain roll across Shane's features like a thousand fractures shattering through glass.
Ilya had seen Shane nearly break ribs. He had seen him miss game-winning shots, take hits that left bruises blooming purple and black across his skin. He had never seen this.
Shane closed his eyes for a long moment. He shook his head slightly, a tiny movement, then nodded once as if agreeing with something only he could hear. His face twisted briefly with a fresh wave of pain before he forced it to still.

What if Shane and Ilya don't make up so easily after the Boxing Day fight? The Centaur's plane never malfunctions, so Shane never proposes. Instead, Ilya gives him an ultimatum on coming out and going public. It backfires spectacularly.

Ilya sneezed, and immediately regretted it.
Shane turned slowly to look at him, his dark eyes narrowed. “What,” he said slowly, “was that?”
“Nothing,” Ilya said, hoping that the congestion was more mental than audible.
Then he sneezed again.
“Are you fucking serious?”
“The thing is,” Ilya started.
“You specifically told me that you weren't sick!”
“In my defense,” Ilya said, missing haughty and hitting raspy instead, “it was not supposed to rain.”
Ilya and Shane's first camping trip immediately goes south when they realize Ilya has a cold

Ilya is relieved when Shane seems to rally at least somewhat towards the end of morning skate, chasing after Ilya for the puck. Ilya gets it past Hayes, whoops, whirls around and sees Shane fall.
For a moment, Ilya can’t move, and then he skates faster than he ever has in his life.
He skids to a halt next to where Shane is slumped over on the ice and topples forward onto his knees.

Shane and Ilya are both sick and managing to take care of each other just fine—if “fine” includes denial, stubbornness, and way too many tissues. Shane is stubborn, fever-brained, and somehow still the one trying to act normal about everything falling apart. Ilya is miserable, dramatic, and extremely bad at being vulnerable. Yuna and David step in to find that parenting two grown hockey players is apparently still part of the job description.
