When Gabriel Martinelli was 8 and a 1/2 years old, he claimed he hated his soccer coach.
The man had tried to show him something that Gabriel just could not understand and it had led to a temper tantrum in the car on the way home. He had been too old for such antics but his mother had not like admonished him like he had expected, instead she had chuckled warmly. Unbeknownst to Gabriel, she had been revelling in the childhood reaction of her son - glad that he was still acting like a child in an environment that was forcing him to grow up so much faster than anyone had prepared either of them for. HIs mother had looked at him with amusement shining in her eyes and said something Gabriel would never forget:
"Gabriel, you cannot hate someone that you did not love at some point"
