So, when Steve Harrington thinks to himself, in the depths of what is definitely not a full-blown panic attack, "If Jonathan doesn't stop this car right now, I'm going to climb over the backseat and strangle him to death with the stupid fucking ascot I've been forced to wear for the past two months." He means it.

With a quiet groan of irritation, he pushes off the table and starts walking. Baby's almost at the door when Doc catches up to him. He grabs the kid by the elbow, fingers digging in firm enough to stop him in his tracks.
Doc keeps his voice low, leaning into Baby's space, angling his mouth near Baby's ear.
"Whatever shitty mood you're in right now," he starts, "you don't let it affect your performance on the road. Do you understand me?"
Baby stares for a moment before shaking his arm loose, lightly ripping it from Doc's grip, face twitching with annoyance.
Doc stands there, hand still half-raised where Baby's arm had been. He lets it drop with a sigh, exhaling long and slow, before crossing his arms over his chest, jaw clenched.
He truly doesn't understand what Baby's problem is.

Baby liked the quiet hum of the coffee shop, a small corner of peace hidden away on a small side street off the corner of the main avenue. It was around mid-afternoon when the man walked in - a sharp suit, and a perpetually displeased expression etched into his face.
"Black coffee. No sugar, no cream," the man said.
He thought about the man's eyes, how they constantly flicked over to him while he worked. It hadn't just been curiosity - it had felt like recognition.
But that was impossible. They'd never met. Had they?
Baby frowned, pushing the odd thought aside. He had other customers to deal with. No time to dwell on mysterious men who ordered black coffee and stared too long.

The man rolled the number on his tongue casually, testing it out. "Ten. Well, you don't look it. You look like a damm baby." He pointed his finger at him, snapping it, as if deciding something with finality right on the spot.
"That's what I'll call you, then. Don't care what your real name is. You're Baby, now, got it?"

He's breathing. At least, he thinks he is. It's hard to get air in his lungs from the way his face was plastered into the dirty concrete floor; haggard inhales and choked wheezing that makes him sound like he's been smoking a pack of cigarettes every day for the last fifty years.
And- wasn't he supposed to be doing something? Baby knows there's a piece missing in his mind because he can't remember what was going on prior to ten minutes ago, and he doesn't know why everything hurts-

Baby pulled out one earbud and mumbled, “Old enough.” His voice was rough with sleep, low and quiet.
“Mm-hm.” Darling smiled knowingly. “You’re still just a boy.”
“Boy drives better than most men I know,” Buddy said, tipping his head back against the couch. “Kid’s got ice in his veins when he needs it.”
