Grace’s discomfort with Dr. Devon Hale was a slow, creeping thing. Because on the surface, she was a perfectly nice woman. She worked under Dr. Lamai on the coma bed technology, was tall and imposing with long brown hair and a symmetrical face that others categorized as “pretty”—which Grace only knew because he'd overheard some lab techs comment on it one day. He never had the eye for that kind of thing.

“I see you.”
