After reclaiming Erebor, Legolas cannot say he's surprised to learn that his Guard Captain ran off with a dwarf. Planning to stalk the Crown Prince to find where the lovers ran off to, he ends up far from home with an unimpressed and overly armed older brother, a hobbit skilled in serving cookies with a healthy dose of guilt on the side, and a small red-headed tag-along that sends his head spinning in more ways than one.

This is lovely, just lovely. Sherlock is the great-nephew of a Victorian Sherlock Holmes whose Dr. John Watson kept journals of their exploits and their relationship, the reading of which challenges their modern counterparts to reexamine their own relationship. I just love the passages from the old Watson’s journals, people don’t express themselves that way anymore and it truly is a shame.

In general, I don’t read stories where one member of the primary pairing is an original character (that way often leads to Mary Sues/Gary Stus *shudder*). But for some unknown reason, I gave this one a try and I’m really glad I did because it’s super cute. Rudy’s adorable and the OC is very in keeping with the Almost Human universe.
