Jack watched, wide-eyed, at what Stoick now clutched in his hands, and he ducked behind the rocks to quietly vomit whatever breakfast he’d been able to shove down.
He knew what it was, the wind whispering it in his ears as he retched.
Hiccup’s boot, and inside, was his bloody, charred foot.
Hiccup and Toothless hadn’t made it out in one piece; the wind probably couldn’t find them because they were most likely in several. If not, his foot might’ve been the only piece of them to make it out of the fire.
They were gone.
Or, Hiccup runs away after the Red Death, believed to be dead, until five years later

From the day he was born, Hiccup was a disappointment. Seriously, that's what his name means. Good thing that he lived up to his name. No matter what he did, he always had a way of messing it up. Fishing, sowing, cooking, building, fighting, leading, and the list goes on until Ragnarok. Hiccup could fail at every single one. Maybe blacksmithing was something he was good at, but he still had a plethora of mistakes in that field too.
The only thing Hiccup was good at was the only thing that all Vikings didn't need. Dragons. No one knew about his skill accept for himself. While it may sound good to have a way with the beasts to most vikings, Hiccup was not like most vikings.
In fact, he was more like the 'beasts' himself.
