With no intentional association to Daniel Molloy

Summary:

Kate and Lenora Molloy have never been proud to be their father’s daughters, and this is something that’s followed them into their careers as semi-successful podcast hosts. Unfortunately, Daniel Molloy is a loud journalist with a point of view. Despite being an absent father, he sure does pop up in his daughter’s lives at the worst of times.

All of this comes to a head when Daniel goes ahead and publishes a reputation destroying, apparently non-fiction, gay vampire erotica book.

OR:

The Molloy sisters have a podcast together, and are both terminally embarrassed by their deranged, senile father and his digital footprint.

Notes:

Full disclosure, I am using canon as a reference as loosely as I possibly can. Suspend your disbelief when imagining when this takes place; it’s post-Dubai, post-book release, but I haven’t been able to watch season 3 yet so just imagine we’re still going off of what we knew at season two’s end point.

Also, I’ve read a stupid amount of fics about Daniel’s daughters, so I’m sure their personalities will end up being similar to what other writers have come up with, my bad.

This chapter is really short, because it’s pretty much just set up for the bits I’m actually looking forward to writing lol

Chapter 1: The inciting incident

Chapter Text

The Molloy surname was not something that Kate and Lenora actively tried to advertise about themselves. Sure, it was impossible to deny that the podcast would be considerably less successful without it, but it was equally hard to see that as a positive.

It used to be a struggle to find a comment on any of their episodes that didn’t bring up their dad, whether by name or through implication. They had seriously made an effort to ignore said comments, but it’s a little hard to do any audience interaction without acknowledging them at least once. They had brought it up casually one episode, confirming that yes, they were the daughters of famous journalist Daniel Molloy, and no, they did not want to talk about it.

“We don’t want to be nepo babies, and we definitely don’t want to be nepo babies because of Daniel fucking Molloy,” Kate had said. The quote had made the rounds on a couple of low tier news article sites, and then the problem of their association with their dad had more or less fizzled out. The attention had brought new listeners to the pod, which the sisters had celebrated as a net positive, and then they had moved on.

Their newer episodes still got the occasional comment along the lines of thoughts on your dad’s latest article?’ or ‘Is it true that Lenora ate a cigarette when she was little like Daniel said in his autobiography?’ But these comments were few and far between, and funny enough for the sisters to poke fun at them when they did arise.

That was until Daniel went ahead and published his brand new book. Kate’s phone blew up with notifications at a crisp 7:14 in the morning. The comments were a solid wall of questions and exclamations about this apparent new release, and Kate could not for the life of her find it in herself to give a fuck. She had put her phone down, rolled over in bed, and tried to get a little more sleep. But she wasn’t fooling herself, there was no shot she would get a single second more after that. Yet another reason for her to hate Daniel Molloy.

She was shooting an episode of the pod with Lenora at 10:00 that morning, and evidently any plans they had had for the episode had just been thrown out the window. From how big this release had apparently been overnight, there would be no getting out of addressing it in the new episode. She grumbled some sort of vague curse towards Daniel Molloy as she relented and picked up her phone.

Kate Molloy decided that she fucking hated her life.

Notes:

I’ve got some bits and pieces for future chapters already written, and so I’m posting this first chapter to keep me accountable and motivated to continue writing. It’s baby’s first published fic so be gentle with me pretty please.

Also, I don’t remember the fic I read it in so I’m sorry for not being able to give adequate credit, but I’m fairly certain I saw someone else write one of Daniel’s daughters eating cocaine as a child, so that’s probably where the idea of Lenora eating a a cigarette came from. Full props to whoever wrote that, it’s so accurate to Daniel that I couldn’t get it out of my head.
