Summary
The Usurper and the Bastard follows Princess Gwencerys Velaryon, the only daughter of Rhaenyra Targaryen, as she navigates a dangerous web of forbidden love, family loyalty, and impending civil war.
Growing up in the Red Keep, Gwencerys forms a secret, deeply intense bond with her uncle, Prince Aegon Targaryen. Their connection is mirrored by their dragons: Gwencerys’s obsidian-black dragon, Draconis, shares a rare, magnetic attachment to Aegon’s golden dragon, Sunfyre. When the whispers surrounding her lineage force Rhaenyra to relocate the family to Dragonstone, Gwencerys and Aegon are torn apart, left only with the memory of what they shared.
