Alex’s POV
“Stay with me today.” Henry insists, he always tries.
“Baby, you know I can’t today.”
He looks up at me, his big blue eyes pleading, he’s almost hypnotising but I can’t give in, as much as I want to stay.
“It’s just for the weekend, I’ll see you on Monday. You can survive until Monday, can’t you?”
I laugh, but he doesn’t. Instead, I feel him curl up closer to me until he’s lying on my shoulder- his hair messy as I motion my hand through it. He smiles a little, so I smile too.
We lay there for a while longer, we’re silent, but it’s a comfortable silence. Just being in his presence is enough for me, listening to his breath and how he tries to sync his breathing with mine, feeling his heart beating as he cuddles up close to me. Moments like these, I wouldn’t trade for the world. I love him.
“Alex,” he finally spoke, tilting his head up to look at me- his eyes sparkling with the light of the morning sun that is shining through the gaps in our blinds.
“I’m gonna plan something extra special for you, for Monday!” he giggles, making me smile even more. Little did he know, I had already planned something special for him.
“I’ll look forward to it!” I reply, that wasn’t a lie- I am looking forward to Monday.
I slowly slip from his grasp as he nuzzles his head into my pillow, “Only a few days, Hen, I promise.” I smile, picking up the nearest pair of trousers and slipping them on, followed by my favourite pale blue hoodie (totally not stolen from Henry’s closet), holding it up to my nose to “smell-check” that it was clean enough, and of course my shoes.
Henry is sitting up now, rubbing his eyes. He looks exhausted although he always insists on waking up early whenever I do, he says it means we get to spend extra time together.
“Go back to bed, it’s okay. You can call me when you wake up.”
He remains silent, still smiling at me. God, he’s beautiful, I think I could stare at him forever… moments like this, so casual for the regular person but to me it’s everything, I could stay in these moments for eternity. Henry sitting there on our bed looking so rough and tired yet still flawlessly gorgeous, wrapped in the navy duvet with the morning sun shining in and hitting his face at just the right angle that made his eyes look like they’d trapped a whole ocean inside of them, his messy hair and his soft lips, everything about him so effortlessly ethereal, it makes me feel weak. I love him like this. He isn’t trying to impress anyone anymore, he’s just him. He’s just Henry. And he’s so perfect to me, even with the dark bags circling his eyes. I lean over to kiss him, stopping for another brief moment, just looking into each other’s eyes before I head out of the room and close the door behind me.
I made my way through the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator as I passed it, then headed out the front door towards my car.
It’s nice out today, pretty sunny but not overly hot. I climb in the car, fasten my seatbelt and start the engine, glancing up to our bedroom window as I do so and seeing Henry’s face peering through the blinds as he waves goodbye. I wave back and off I go.
