“You want me?” Mike's eyes were dark, and Will was speechless. He swallowed the awful feeling that was rising in his throat, trying to utter something, to somehow deny it.
Mike was looking at him in a way he never had. Like he was something foul.
“Did you really think I wouldn’t notice, Will?” He breathed, so slowly that Will was sure his heart would be a second off beat forever. “It's always been so obvious.”
“I’m sorry Mike, I’m so sorry. I don't.. It’s not-”
“Don’t make it worse, now you just sound stupid.”
They were standing close, and it was a proximity Will had craved since he knew what want even was, but something was wrong. Will moved sideways to slip away, looking his best friend in the eyes, and a horrible cold began pooling in his stomach. It wasn’t Mike.
