Just a heads up, this is the same universe as my KaruShuu in HS universe, only difference is this is set while the show is still running,

Chapter 1: Day 1

Summary:

Enter, Karma! The start of a story has begun

Notes:

Uuuuhhhhhh I hope you like, I've been meaning to do a more angsty, lore-driven fic, so I'm happy, and I have so many ideas for this fic, so I can't wait to start working on chapter two

BTW I updated chapters 1-3 a bit, just to make the writing better, nothing big.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

DAY 1 - THE FIRST TIME (IT HAPPENED)

Karasuma Tadaomi is a pretty simple man.

He never misses a deadline.

He eats the same thing every day.

He’s dedicated to his work.

And he's a spy for the Japanese government.

Not as simple, but paired with all the other little things, it evens out.

His current mission is the craziest one yet–and Karasuma had been on some crazy missions–it all started with a “Karasuma. You’re our best employee, you’re talented, and you know how to keep secrets. That’s why we’re trusting you with this vital mission. We’re trusting you to save the world.” from his boss.

Guess it was pretty lucky the guy they wanted to save the world also had his teaching license (But they hired Irina, so he doubts that not having a teaching license would have gotten in his way).

Another thing is that Karasuma never wanted kids before. Babies cried when they looked at him, and kids never hesitated to call out how scary he looked. On top of children not liking him, their feelings had always baffled him, and they needed to be guided through life step by step. It just didn’t fit into his schedule.

Well… Until now.

When your job is to teach children, they end up as a crucial part of your schedule.

But one thing remains true. They need to have their hand held through each part of their life, or they’ll go rogue. It’s not something Karasuma is good at, guiding a child through life. As fond as he’s grown of kids it feels as if he can never help in personal situations, he can’t give helpful advice because he’s never had these problems as a child, he’s never experienced a failed first date, or an awkward crush–he was raised in the military, all his firsts were on missions in a controlled environment with a clear goal in mind. The point is, Karasuma simply isn’t fit to own a child. He’s completely content with just class 3-E. He’s happy with his role in the classroom. The protector. The father.

Knock knock

The father, inside the classroom. Outside, he’s not anyone's father, and he’s happy for that fact. Children are tiring, and Karasuma likes his personal space.

KNOCK KNOCK

“Coming!” Karasuma puts down his weekly report to his boss to get the door.

That whole intro to say, Karasuma’s not ready to be a full-time father, he doubts he ever will be.

But sometimes you don't get to choose when you become a full-time dad.

Akabane?... How do you know where I live?”

The last thing Karasuma needs is overtime,

“Korosensei has his password written down–like some boomer, and Irina’s is easy to guess.” Karma chuckles, “I mean, all those confidential docs were just begging to be read.”

Especially when the ‘overtime’ is babysitting some trouble-making redhead.

“That’s not how–” Karasuma is interrupted when Karma pushes past him, in cat pajamas.

“I’m staying with you for the night, surprise!” Karma turns on his foot and smirks at him, “We’re gonna have so much fun~ don’t you feel lucky?” Karma purrs out his rhetorical question, then starts walking around Karasuma’s house like he owns the place!

“No to both your question and your statement.” Karasuma answers, although Karma didn’t ask a real question, “We will not be having ‘fun’ and this is most unlucky for me.” Karasuma makes sure to keep his front door open, hoping it'll beckon Karma to leave.

“What?” Karma faces Karasuma with an exaggerated hurt expression, “What happened to your hospitality! Your empathy! Can’t you see I’m tired from walking ALL THE WAY to your house! The trains are closed and it’s a 2 and a half hour walk!”

“You're exaggerating.”

Karma shows Karasuma his phone, and sure enough, Karma’s house is a 2-hour and 31-minute walk.

Karasuma scrunches his eyebrows, “Why would you walk for so long just to bother me?”

“I wanted to have a sleepover with my favorite teacher, of course!” Karma smirks

“Everyone knows your favorite teacher is Korosensei.” Karasuma squints his eyes in suspicion, trying to sniff out Karma’s endgame.

“I- What?” Karma side eyes him. “So, we’re just gonna skim right past that and get to my point. I’m sleeping over and there's nothing you can do about it.” Karma smiles innocently.

“This is my house.”

“So?”

“So–?” Karasuma begins, but Karma turns his back on him, effectively ending any further discussion on the topic.

So… Karasuma guesses he’s spending his night taking care of a morally questionable kid. Great. Just what he needed. An unwanted child.

Karasuma decides to cut his losses and closes his front door, accepting that Karma isn't leaving anytime soon.

“This’ll be fine as long as it's a one-time thing.”

“Mhm,” Karma hums in what was supposed to be an acknowledgement, but the hum trailed off before it could get to the correct note— Karasuma suspects it’s because Karma’s busied himself with touching every souvenir Karasuma owns and putting it down in the wrong place. Karasuma takes a deep breath and starts reorganizing his souvenirs. Hospitality. Karma’s right—where’s his hospitality? Karasuma should start easy.

“Would you like a drink?”

A simple question, an offer of water, one of the most hospitable things to ask. Karma perks up and tosses a throw pillow back on the—nay— a couch and it promptly falls off.

“Yeah, whatcha offering?” Karma smirks, which Karasuma assumes to be his way of smiling.

“I was going to offer water, but I've also got tea” Karasuma picks the throw pillow off the floor and places it back where it belongs.

“Strawberry milk?” Karma tilts his head “or something sweet?”

“No. I don't drink things like that, so there's no reason for me to buy it.” Karasuma walks into the kitchen, motioning with his hand for Karma to follow. “I’ll make you some tea with sugar, if that's okay” He turns on his kettle. Karma stays silent (surprisingly) and as Karasuma turns to look at the younger boy he sees that Karma’s silent because he’s looking through Karasuma’s photo album. A private photo album. With private pictures.

He takes a deep breath.

“That’s private Akabane”

“That's kinda obvious, teach”

He takes a deep breath.

“I'd like if you closed it”

“Of course you would”

Karasuma takes a deep breath,

Then snatches the album out of Karma's hand.

“If you wanna stay the night then you will listen to me.” He places his photo album on its correct shelf and pulls out a chair from the table in the kitchen. “I don't like being disrespected in my own house.”

Karma looks at his teacher. “Don't be so mean, I was only scanning my surroundings~” Karma draws out the ‘sss’ sound as he walks over to the pulled-out chair, touching everything he can along the way. Karma huffs amusedly once he reaches the chair “Isn't that what you taught us to do?”

Karasuma pushes the chair forward, forcing Karma to fall back on it. Karma laughs in response “I’m just saying not to get pissy when I do what I'm told!” he leans back in the chair, putting his elbow on the head. “By the way, what’re you making me for dinner?” It sounds like a question when it comes out of Karma’s mouth, but said mouth is currently upturned into a devious smirk, so Karasuma can only assume Karma understands that demanding food after barging into someone's house is improper.

“I wasn't planning on making anything.” Karasuma responds, short and stern.

“Well, I'm starving, and it's bad manners to leave a guest hungry~” Karma purrs out, cool and relaxed. “You better get cookin’ teach, or you'll have to stay up past your bedtime,” Karma glances at the fridge(at Karasuma’s schedule), he moves his palm to cover his mouth, Karasuma can tell he’s snickering

“Do you have a problem with a planned-out day?” Karasuma makes a sharp 'tsk' sound before he gives in to Karma’s previous demands and moves to his stove, turning the fire on.

“I don't have any problems.” Karma puts his hands behind his head but the shit-eating grin stays firm on the boy's face. “I just didn't know you could plan your day down to the exact second you wake up, that's honestly impressive” Karma laughs in a way that implies he doesn't think Karasuma’s schedule is impressive in the least.

The only thing Karasuma finds that he can do is try to ignore the loud-mouth bother and play it off as being too engrossed in his cooking.

“Here. Dinner.”

“Oh?” Karma looks away from his phone to glance down at the table. “Whoa… this looks horrible.” Karma snickers and looks back at his phone “Make it again”

“Excuse me.” Karasuma must not have heard the little brat correctly. Certainly not.

“I said,” Karma leans in closer from across the table, he cones his hands around his mouth in a way to make his voice louder. “Make. It. Again.” Karma smiles. Karasuma’s starting to hate that smile. “You can't expect me to eat something like that.” Karma points down to the omelet rice, Karasuma admits, he might've been too deep in his thoughts of getting the redhead out of his house to the point he almost burned his own kitchen down, the meal along with it. “If I eat that, I'm definitely gonna get food poisoning.” Karma continues. “Ne ne, just bring the food to me, you ruined it so I shouldn't have to be punished.” Karasuma doesn't even bother to respond, Karma's gonna do whatever the hell he wants anyway. And if Karma wants to sleep, then that only benefits Karasuma.

While Karasuma stands over his stove cooking, he starts thinking (bad idea considering the last time), why is he still cooking? Karma's probably asleep right now, honestly, this is his hard work poured into this omelet rice, he should eat it, not obey the whims of a spoiled, inconsiderate, red-headed child—who can't even listen—and make him think he can keep pushing people around…

It seems his thoughts are starting to turn more… Jelavitch… perhaps that's just a side effect of Karma.

Either way, Karma's still a guest, and Karasuma wouldn't want to let one of his students go hungry on his watch. No matter how irritating said student is.

Thus he reluctantly turns the stove on and tries again.

It was dark, that's the first thing Karasuma noticed as he entered the guest room. For a second Karasuma thought the boy was asleep, but upon closer inspection, he could see the blanket moving around.

“Akabane.”

A tuft of red hair peeks through the blanket, he hums as a greeting.

“I thought you may have been asleep by now,” Karasuma says as he walks over to where Karma has some of his head poking out the blanket.

“Nope, still awake. You didn't think I’d let you get away with not making dinner, did you?” Karma smiles innocently, Karasuma isn't fooled.

“Of course not.” is his response. He takes a quick once-over of the redhead. Karma’s face is lit up by the blue light coming from his Nintendo. He seems to be playing Pac-Man, not something Karasuma expected to see the younger boy playing. When Karasuma sits down on the bed Karma’s already halfway on his lap grabbing the food.

“This is way better than your last attempt.” Karma grins and leans back on the bed. “See what you can do when you put your mind to it?” Karma says right before he scoops a piece of omelet rice into his mouth. He doesn't react other than with a soft smile, although that smile seems to be more directed to his game than to the food.

“Well, if you're done barking orders at me, I'll be heading to bed,” Karasuma grunts out

Karma hums in understanding, scooping another spoonful into his mouth and never taking his eyes off his screen.

“You should too.” Karasuma continues

Karma freezes at his last words before letting out a huff of frustration (Karasuma assumes he’s died in-game due to his lapse of attention) “I’ll get some sleep, just lemme beat this game first” Karasuma nods and makes his leave. Karasuma never played games, not even as a kid, but he'd heard of them, and he was pretty sure Pac-Man didn't have a finish…

Well, Karma's the gamer here, Karasuma couldn't even tell you the definition of an RPG

The first thing Karasuma does when he gets up is start his coffee maker.

But today the first thing Karasuma does when he gets up is check on his extra guest room for a certain student.

But when he gets there, the room is empty.

Not even a note.

Karasuma shrugs and turns to leave the room. That was weird, he hopes that was a one-time thing, he only wants to see that annoying little devil during school hours, where he's paid to put up with the disrespect.
