Amy’s screams were swallowed by the wind as she was dragged screaming through the sky over Little Planet. Her initial attempts to wriggle free and hammer her fists on her assailant gave way to a crippling fear of falling to her death. She held on for dear life, but her blue robotic kidnapper held her tight enough that she needn’t have worried. It only took a couple minutes for them to reach their destination at the end of a series of floating roadways, where she found herself locked in a giant bird cage hanging from one of the various beams and girders that littered Stardust Speedway.
And waiting there, in his floating Egg-Mobile, was Doctor Eggman himself. His eyes were only on her long enough to acknowledge her presence before they shifted to his tool.
“Excellent work Metal Sonic! What a wonderful creation you’ve turned out to be! You must have made that trip in not even five minutes!”
*bwoowooweeeep* responded the machine. From the tone, it was probably something imitating smugness.
“I’m going to head down now to catch Sonic near the end of Collision Chaos, you stay here and,” his eyes were back on Amy long enough for a villainous laugh, “watch our guest” , the statement punctuated with the completion of the evil cackle.
*bwowoowowoo!* the robot sounded dutifully.
That left Amy alone with her captor, staring at her through the bars of her cage.
It didn’t look like she could squeeze her body through the bars, but she could reach through them pretty well. And the cage felt pretty lightweight, so maybe she could reach up…
*bwoop?*
It seemed like it was trying to ask about what Amy was doing, which was reaching up through her cage to fiddle with the hook.
“I’m trying to escape, you stupid piece of junk! And then-” the cage lurched to one side “-when I do-” a lurch to the other side “-Sonic will think it’s sooooo cool-” a loud, creaking lurch back “-and then we’ll get married-” *CREEEEAK* “-because it’s FATE!”
The cage dropped ten feet to the ground, but rather than break like she was hoping, the lightweight frame instead almost bounced, shaking her around inside. Rolling…
“Oh no-”
Rolling off the edge.
Compared to the high speed flight earlier, the fall was eerily quiet. Without the wind to swallow her screaming, her voice filled the empty air as the tumbling cage violently shook the sense of direction out of her.
With a screeching turbine and a shattering of metal, she stopped falling. Once again held in the arms of the blue robot, circling back to the same place she'd just plummeted away from.
It felt different the second time.
Maybe it was because this time it was saving her life. Just in time to see the stars coming out.

Amy didn't get time to think about this robot saving her life, as it immediately found something wildly less comfortable than a cage: old dry rope. It didn't make her regret trying to escape, it made for a cool story she could use to impress Sonic with, but it made her feel less patient with her captor.
“You won’t keep me tied up here for long! My fortune cards said so!”
*bebebwoop?* She seemed to be right so far in interpreting the increasing tone at the end as a question mark.
“Yeah! The cards said that change was coming, and that something exciting was going to happen, and then I drew the Hero! If I look at all the cards collectively and trust my heart, I know they were saying I was going to meet my protector here, and who should I meet but Sonic the Hedgehog himself? He’ll rescue me, and then he’ll fall in love with me-”
*beeyooooo* it sounded almost like it was trying to imitate a slide whistle. What an audacious piece of junk.
“Oh he will too! And then he’ll beat you up for putting me in a cage and then tying me up! And then he’ll be like ‘Wow Amy, you were so brave when you got kidnapped, maybe we should get married’ and then you’ll see!”
The replica hedgehog rolled its eyes rather than try to communicate in beeps. Amy wasn’t sure what frustrated her more, the dismissiveness or the fact that for once there wasn’t any kind of communication barrier. She didn’t get a chance to express her simmering rage before a nearby intercom buzzed to life.
“SONIC IS APPROACHING THE END OF STARDUST SPEEDWAY!” Robotnik's voice sounded demanding even before it got to the direct order. “GET INTO POSITION NOW!”
The robot sprung into action, turbine revving before blasting out the exit.
Something about how animated it was during the whole process struck Amy. It looked… really excited to go out and fight Sonic. It was almost endearing?
“I guess we’re both happy he’s here, aren’t we?” she said to the vague dust cloud speeding off into the distance.
It wouldn’t be long before her hero was here to rescue her. Sure, he was trying to pull away from her hugging, but surely that was just him playing hard to get. Oh! Or maybe he’ll act all annoyed only to later realize how much he’d fallen in love! Wouldn’t that be romantic?
She wasn’t going to let her endearing captor getting obliterated by Eggman’s laser ruin the moment.
