Work Text:
By the time they reached Nashville they were exhausted. It's been over eight hours now. A hard bump on the road, stirs Anna awake. She looks to her side and sees Castiel slumped in his seat. His head against the window while on the other side of her is Gabriel who is drooling on her shoulder.
She looks away and is about to say something when she sees Dean and Sam softly talking to each other. Sam stops talking and lays down across the seat to lay his head on Dean's lap. Dean's free hand reaches down to comb his fingers through his hair. It's an intimate closeness of the boys that Anna admires. She has never seen two siblings so codependent on each other. Dean puts his hand on Sam's face and Sam's leans into the touch.
She watches the boys silently, when she starts to drift back to sleep, she hears a faint, "Okay Sammy". She's about to go back to sleep when Dean's loud voice says, "Guys we've been driving for awhile now..." Castiel and Gabriel both groan from the lack of sleep. "We need to rest somewhere."
--------
“Dean?”
Dean's eyes drift to look at her. “Do you know where we are going yet?”
Dean looks away and back at the road. "Not sure yet."
The next town they go through they drive around to find a motel. Luckily there’s one. Dean parks the Impala and Anna follows Cas out of the car to pay for the room with the money in his trench coat pocket. Of all the ones in their little group, Cas was the most prepared for any forms of dropping everything.
The owner is a young, dark-haired woman, she smiles as she hands them two key fobs.
"Have a nice stay."
Cas nods while Anna softly replies with a 'Thank you'.
Dean parks in front of Room 3 and turns off the car. All the remaining teens get out of the car and head for the blue door with a huge black number 3 on it. Anna sees Sam's hand rub Dean's wrist before he drops his hand and goes into the room first. When Sam pushes the door open, everyone sighs with a combination of relief and disappointment at the same time. The room isn’t the best-looking thing, stained walls and carpet, broken leg of a chair that’s haphazardly put together by duct tape. It has two beds and a uncomfortable looking sofa in the dark corner of the room.
“I’ve slept in worse,” says Gabriel as he pushes them all aside. He throws his backpack on the bed closet to the bathroom and jumps on the bed. The bed springs groan is loud enough to fill the room.
Anna looks around the room some more and checks the bathroom before coming back out. The other room, Room 2 has one large bed and a more suitable sofa couch. “Gabe and I in this room and Cas, Dean and Sam in the other room?”
Cas’ eyes widen at that. Gabriel laughs and yells “Slumber Party!”
“I think I’ll sleep in the car," mumbles Cas.
“Cas you just told Dean that you---”
“That’s different.”
Dean moves to Cas and claps him on the back hard before grabbing the loose handle, “Cas, come on. Stick together.”
“Dean’s right, we need to stick together. ” Anna sits on her bed.
“No, offense but I’m not sharing with them.” He watches Gabriel grab his bag from the bag and ruffles around to find some candy.
“Why not?"
“Anna---” Sam shakes his head and grabs the key from Dean, heading out the door to Room 2.
“Sam and Dean are always best at keeping an eye on each other.” Anna gives him a confused look, “Is it because it’s just one bed in there?” Dean looks at them before leaving after Sam.
“No, that’s---”
“Oh! Don't feel uncomfortable Cas, that couch looked better in shape than this one here."
Gabriel laughs at that, Anna looks at him, “What’s funny?”
--------------------
Anna wakes up with a jolt. She looks at the clock it says 4:39am. She could’ve sworn she heard something. She looks around the room, nothing is off. Gabriel is passed out, snoring loudly surrounded by a heap of candy wrappers. She waits and is about to get up to go to the bathroom when she hears another sound. It's coming from the corner of the room, it’s Cas. He's trying to fit on the couch as comfortably as he can. She lets out a huge sigh of relief and she notices his furrowed brow. He looks irritated.
“What’s wrong Cas?”
Cas stops trying to sleep and sits up on the couch, “Nothing. I’m sleeping here.”
“Why are you here? Was the couch not that comfortable?
Cas huffs a laugh, “Comfortable...”
“So….”
“I…” he thinks about what to say, “I heard noises, so I left.”
During that conversation between the older Novak siblings, Gabriel pipes up, they didn’t even hear him wake up. “What ‘noises’?” He puts his fingers in quotations marks.
Castiel groans at that, “Drop it Gabe.”
Gabriel grins and opens his mouth but suddenly they hear a loud moan on the other side of the wall. Gabriel’s amusement is higher now.
Anna frowns, “Is Sam still having his nightmares?”
Gabriel is containing his giggles now.
“How is a nightmare funny, Gabriel.”
“Anna,” Castiel rubs his temples, “It’s not a nightmare.”
Another loud moan breaks out, this time it’s deeper. Gabriel looks at Cas, “I told you.”
“Told him wh---”
In the other room, a huge thud of something against the wall repeatedly, interrupts her. A few moans of “Sammy” can be faintly heard paired with Sam’s soft sighs responding, “Dean”. At this point Cas has his fingers in his ears, “I guess they noticed I was gone.”
“Fuck Dean, right…. Right… there, fuck!” Sam’s moans no longer quiet. It’s just as loud at the thudding sound hitting the wall in a rhythmic pattern. “Don’t stop.”
“You are so fucking tight, shit.”
Dean’s grunts are getting higher with some whimpering noise from Sam. “Harder, Dean. I’m almost…” He gasps loudly, "I'm almost there!"
The bed hits the wall harder this time and one of the pictures hanging in their room falls. Cas looks at the shattered glass of the picture. His fingers drop from his ears, “I’m going to go the Diner across the motel.”
Anna looks around for a piece of paper and a pen. She writes a quick note to slip under the boy’s door saying the rest of them were going to the Diner. She follows Cas outside the door.
Gabriel follows, “Trust me no one is going to want to get in the middle of that.”
----------------------------------------
By the time the Winchester boys arrive at the Diner, Gabriel has already been through two Breakfast platters. Cas is drinking his fifth hot tea and Anna is asleep against the Diner’s window.
Both are completely disheveled looking; Dean keeps leaning into Sam’s ears and whispers a few words. Sam just rolls his eyes and eventually pushes Dean away. It prompts a laugh from Dean. They get to the table and sit down across from each other.
“Where’d you go Cas?” Dean moves his foot towards Sam’s long legs and rubs his shoe up and down it.
Sam ignores him, “Yeah, Cas. Was the couch too uncomfortable?”
Cas gives Sam an annoyed look and stiffly says, “Yeah. The couch, Samuel.”
Gabriel watches with amusement while he shoves pancakes in his mouth.
Dean gives up getting Sam’s attention and grabs the menu on the table. “What you want, Sammy?”
Cas can’t believe they are acting like nothing was happening.
“You know we could hear yo—” Gabriel is stopped by Anna.
“Nothing!” Anna grabs a menu too, “Absolutely nothing at all.”
“Man, I feel so relaxed now.” Dean is shoving his bacon in his mouth and talking with his full mouth, “Stopping was a good idea, Sam.”
“I was freezing because I didn’t have the covers, cover hog,” mumbles Sam.
“Sure, it was just hogging the covers that kept you up.” Gabriel laughs as Anna kicks him under the table.
“Huh?” Dean looks at him.
“We heard you. Both of you.” Anna tries not to sound accusatory.
Sam’s face starts to blush, Dean keeps eating his food, “Hear what?” Sam places his hands on his face in embarrassment.
“Moaning. Thudding against the wall,” says Gabriel nonchalant, like he’s talking about how beautiful the sky is.
Dean stops eating, “You know Sam has nightmares, Gabe.” He pretends to look angry.
“Is saying “Harder, Dean” part of that?”
“Gabe. Stop.” Castiel is uncomfortable with this conversation and looking at Anna, who is pretending to focus on her food, he’s not the only one.
Dean looks at Sam, who is mortified. He sighs, “Fine. Yes, we’re fucking. Happy now?”
Gabriel grins in delight, “I should've made you pay me last night, Cas.”
Cas just shakes his head.
“How did you know?” Sam finally speaks up, it’s embarrassing but at the same time it’s a relief to just be open now about it.
“Oh, come on, Sam. I see everything, touches, lingering gazes you both weren’t really hiding it.”
“I just thought they were really close,” Anna says softly, “Congrats on the official coming out though. Just…”
“Be more considerate when someone, especially myself is in the same bedroom as you both.” Castiel doesn’t mean to sound too rude about it but come on. Don’t they know any manners?
“Sorry, Cas.” Sam gives him a sheepish, guilty smile.
“So that settles it!” Dean gets up from the table and grabs Sam by the chin, kissing him deeply. He whispers a soft “I love you” that only Sam can hear. Sam smiles and whispers it back. Dean lets go of Sam’s chin and looks at everyone else, “So what’s the plan?”
