Are you sure?

Summary:

Settling in, adjusting to changes. The aftermath of Jinx switching sides (at least my version of it).

Chapter 1: Trust is uncommon in my world

Chapter Text

“Are you sure it’s okay for me to be here?”

“Sure, why not?”

“This is me we’re talking about”

The teen shifted awkwardly in place, her eyes darting around the room, trying to follow the movement of everyone around them.

Titans Tower was filled to the brim with superhero teens, most of which were currently in the main lobby, either fixing themselves a meal, trying to get their wounds checked or just going around the place.

Jinx didn’t need to, nor want to, do any of those things at the moment. She was fighting her instincts, since every part of her body was telling her to go away, old habits and all that.

Except running wasn’t really an option. There was nowhere for her to run, not anymore.

A sudden hand on her shoulder almost sent her over the edge, but she managed to pull herself together.

“Hey, it’s ok. I won’t let them do anything to you”

It was Kid Flash talking, he’d brought her there and hadn’t left her side since.

“Right” she said, in an effort to calm herself some more.

She couldn’t help but think that, if things went awry, there wasn’t much the two of them could do against a house full of Titans.

It’s not like they sucked at their powers. They would just be severely outnumbered.

It’s why she’d taken to stick near the edges of the room, there was a better chance of reaching an exit from here.

She took a deep breath and checked herself. Her hand was trembling, slightly, but she stilled it.

Sure, she was nervous as hell, and exhausted from the fight too, but she wasn’t about to let them know that.

The doors opened, and she saw the boy wonder walk in. He didn’t make it far before the rest of his group gathered around him. Jinx couldn’t really tell what their conversation was about, but if she had to guess, she’d say they were discussing what to do with their myriad of guests.

“Look, I think it’s best if I go talk to Robin about this, so we can sort it out” Flash said.

It made sense to her.

“Sure” she said.

If they were gonna kick her out, she’d rather they do it now than later.

“Cool, be right back”

“wait no-“ she tried to plead with a blur of yellow that was already gone.

Jinx followed his movement from the corner of her eye. He stopped short of where Robin was, and it wasn’t long before both heroes made their way out of the room.

She sighed, and leaned against one of the walls.

Now she was all alone amongst a sea of people that were not really her best of acquaintances. On the outside she remained still, the only thing moving were her cat-like eyes, shifting this way or the other, tracking anyone who got a little too close for comfort.

Her mind was going a mile an hour, trying to remember who was who and what everyone’s powers were. Focused as she was, Jinx failed to notice how her little corner of the world became incredibly darker for a moment.

“You shouldn’t be standing” A coarse voice came from beside her.

“Je-sus fuck!”

Jinx took a step away from the sound, and winced.

Raven was right, she had twisted her ancle earlier. Damned Gizmo for tripping her up. She went back to leaning against the wall, keeping her bad ancle from supporting any weight. Her eyes zeroed in on her new companion.

Raven, in turn, was staring at her, her unwavering expression coated with a hint of amusement. She carried a sleeping child in her arms.

“Do keep your voice low, Jinx, I just got Timmy to sleep. And I am not going through that again”

“Oh, sorry” she said.

Huh, it occurred to jinx how she’d just apologized, to one of her ‘enemies’, without much thought. No resistance at all. It was an odd feeling.

“Are you allergic to anything?” Raven asked.

“What?” Jinx wasn’t following, but answered nonetheless, “no, I’m not, why?”

“Okay, you’re coming with me”

That was all the warning she got.

A dark void grew on the wall she was leaning against. And Jinx fell.

She fell into nothing, and then into something, somewhere else. A room.

She managed to fall on her feet. Immediately scanning her new surroundings.

Her nerves were on edge. But what she saw gave her a moment’s pause.

There, on the room, was a queen-sized bed with two sleeping children. Raven was carefully tucking the redhead in next to them.

It was a different side of the titan Jinx had barely seen in the time they’d known each other. Granted, they usually were trading blows after one of her heists.  But the young ex-thief was observant. And she’d taken any chance to watch her foes, she could see how Raven was careful with her teammates, contrasting her more abrasive attitude towards Jinx herself.

She’d never really had a chance to look from this close before.

Raven secured the boy in between the other two, a blonde girl and a much younger child. She then proceeded to turn her gaze to what Jinx could see was an empty wall on the other side of the room.

The titan nodded, and Jinx wondered if there was something there that she couldn’t see.

There was no time to check for herself, she found herself being swallowed by the darkness once more. This time she was more prepared, emerging on a darker room, one she’d been in before.

“Sorry about that” Raven said, “I had to put the kids to sleep first, but I didn’t think it sound to leave you alone out there”

“And your plan was to bring me here for…” Jinx said, as she glanced around the room, her eyes adjusting well to the darkness, “what, exactly?”

“Just sit down” the Titan said.

Jinx tentatively poked the bed, it was soft, like nothing she’d ever slept on. She really was getting tired of leaning only on one side.

“Nope” she crossed her arms, “not until you tell me you’re not gonna kill me here”

The death glare she got didn’t ease her nerves in the slightest.

Jinx knew she was testing her luck here; she knew what Raven could do. Had seen it up close herself. Many times.

It just wasn’t in her nature to be compliant.

The titan said nothing, reaching out, trying to get a hold of the ex-thief. Jinx, in turn, jumped back, balancing on one foot as she did, keeping her ancle up.

“Jinx” The titan narrowed her eyes, staring.

“Raven” despite everything, Jinx was smiling.

“I just want to take a look at your ancle” she said.

“uh-huh, and how do I know you’re not lying?” Jinx countered, defiant.

“Why would I lie about something like that?” Raven’s tone was bordering on exasperated.

“I’m glad you asked, Rae” Jinx said, ignoring the glare and starting to count with her fingers, “for one, I don’t trust you. You’ve brought me to a confined location, your room, I presume. Away from any witnesses, you know, so no one will hear me scream. And you have that look in your eyes like you want to toss me out the window.”

Raven made an attempt to move closer, but Jinx kept jumping back.

“I do want to toss you out the window” The titan sighed, “for being so stubborn”

Raven put her palms up.

“I know you don’t trust me, and I don’t expect you too. I don’t trust you either. But I want to help you”

Now it was Jinx’s turn to narrow her eyes. She knew what she was doing, adopting an open stance. Giving Jinx the upper hand.

Or pretending to do it. Again, Jinx was no stranger to the teen’s powers. Although she noticed she hadn’t used them once since teleporting them here.

“I brought you here because I thought you would be more open to help if there was no one else around. I think that’s something we have in common”

Jinx gave the tiniest, minuscule jump closer to her. “How so?”

“We don’t like to show when we’re hurt” Raven said.

“Yeah, well…” Jinx tried to think of something, but she had to admit, Raven had a point.

“You have my word, by Azarath, that I won’t do any intentional harm to you”

Jinx had no idea what Azarath meant, if it was a person, a place, a demon. But she figured it had to be important to Raven, since it was part of her mantra.

After a few seconds of silence, she relented.

“Alright, you win.” Jinx said, “For now,”

Plus, she really was getting tired of standing on one foot.

She settled herself on the edge of the bed, unsure of what to do next.

“Okay, put your ancle up so I can take a look first” Raven instructed.

Jinx did as she was told, bracing herself for the contact.

Raven’s touch was surprisingly warm, she’d always imagined it to be cold. Not that she imagined it often. She filed the information off in her mind.

A blue-ish glow started emanating from Raven’s hands, coating Jinx’s ancle.

“What’s that?”

“My powers” Raven stated simply.

“said you wouldn’t hurt me” Jinx commented, transfixed on what was happening. She wasn’t in any pain. If anything, it was a nice feeling.

“I’m not”

The glow faded, and Raven pulled her hand away.

Jinx tested her ancle, turning it around a couple of times before standing up.

“No way” she murmured, “the hell? Since when can you do that?”

“I suppose you wouldn’t know about that part of my powers, considering…”

“You’re always beating me up? Yeah, makes sense”

Jinx felt great, she jumped around for a bit, before trying her hand at a cartwheel. Yup, fully healed.

“Wicked” she grinned at the empath, who had been staring at her.

There was a knock on the door. Gathering the attention of both girls. Jinx stayed put as Raven opened the door.

She opened it just enough to see who was on the other side.

Huh, a little reserved, I see. Jinx thought.

“I couldn’t find you in the infirmary, so I assumed you’d be here” Robin spoke from the hall outside the room.

“Yes, we are here”

“Everything alright with Jinx?” He asked.

“Heck yeah!” the ex-thief answered.

“Right, well, come with me” he said.

Raven opened the door fully now, motioning for Jinx to get out.

She grinned, feeling great now that she could walk again. There was just one thing thought, if she’d heard right, they had an infirmary here.

“Wait, why did we go to your room, then?” She asked Raven as they followed Robin through some hallways.

“Would you have preferred a white-walled, sterile room with bright hospital lights?” the titan asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, good call” Jinx conceded, “I hate hospitals”

Robin led them into what looked like an interrogation room.

And honestly, given what had just happened, Jinx had actually seen something like this coming.

She wondered where Kid Flash had gone off to.

“Take a seat” the boy wonder said, motioning to one of two chairs on opposite sides of a metallic table.

Raven stood in a corner, almost merging with the shadows.

“Sure you don’t want my chair, Rae?” Jinx asked in an effort to lighten the mood.

“I’m good”

Jinx shrugged, turning her attention to Robin.

“What’s up?”

“Kid Flash told me you quit your team.” He went straight to the point.

“Yeah, like, a while ago?” she said, “didn’t even get my things”

“I want to hear your side of the story”

“pff, okay” she figured this was coming, and had prepared for it.

“So, like, when you guys were running around making friends and all” she started, “I had a bit of a rough patch with my team. I wanted more, y’know, what we did was too easy” she grinned, “lazy fucks they were, messed everything up when we kidnapped Kid Flash”

If this was news to Robin, he hid it well.

“Anyway, long story short. Never meet your heroes, KF tried to flirt with me the whole time. I’m good now”

She put her palms down on the table, smiling.

“Just like that?” Robin asked.

“Yeah, well, I mean it felt weird just now, saying I’m good. ‘cause what good have I done, really? ‘sides quitting crime and all that”

“But you want to do good?”

“Yes?”

“Is that a question?” He raised an eyebrow at her.

“No, I… I want to do good, yeah” She nodded energetically, for good measure.

Robin stared at her for a moment. She didn’t look away.

“Alright” he said, standing up.

She stood up after him, albeit a bit more forcefully.

“What? Alright?” she asked, “that’s it?”

Robin stretched, yawning.

“Yeah, that’s it.”

“Are you for real right now? I thought there’d be more”

All her worrying, for nothing. Jinx was dumbfounded.

“What, like a goodness exam?” It was the first time Raven spoke since they entered.

“Is that a thing?” Jinx asked.

“That was a joke”

“Listen” Robin spoke up again, “you did help us out, that’s something. It won’t do well for any of us not to trust you, I can put in a good word for you, sort everything out with the JCPD. There’s just one thing.”

Oh, here it comes.

“What?” she asked.

“I’m not that convinced you want to be a hero” he said.

“ah” she didn’t comment further.

“Which is perfectly fine, you know” he quickly followed, “you’ve cut ties with your former associates, you could just live a normal life if you wanted to”

“I… what?” the thought of her living a normal life was stranger than her helping the titans.

“I’m sure there’d be some type of community service, but other than that, we’ll help you settle in, if that’s what you want” he said, “You can stay here while you figure that out. Actually, it’ll take some time to get everything sorted out, so there’s no need to hurry”

“o-kay” she was trying to process all the new information she had now.

That, and the fact that Robin was smiling at her.

“We’re done for now”

The three of them left the room. Robin excused himself, heading back into the maze of halls. Jinx and Raven walked back to the main lobby together.

Well, Jinx walked. Raven hovered alongside her.

“I’m not dreaming, am I?” Jinx asked.

“No.”

“And that all just happened, for real?” She followed.

“Indeed.”

“Oh man, I thought bird boy would be more, dunno. I thought I’d have to prove myself or something” It all felt too easy to be real.

“Where he’s from” Raven said, sparing a glance to her companion, “they help whoever asks for help”

“I guess” Jinx was deep in thought, “but like, even me?”

They stopped in front of a set of doors.

“Everyone deserves a second chance” Raven said, looking straight ahead.

The door opened; they were back with the rest of the titans.

Raven immediately made her way to the kitchen.

“huh, go figure” the ex-thief said, walking in.

People had settled in since Jinx had last seen them. And there were less heroes around, too. Most of the ones still there were lounging around, chatting, or gathered around the big screen. She watched as the people hanging out by the kitchen made way for Raven to pass.

Jinx figured she’d go and watch whatever it was they were playing.

She was intercepted on her way there.

“Friend Jinx”

She stopped instinctively as Starfire floated right in front of her.

“Yes, Starfire?”

“Are you familiar with the ‘darker magics’?”

And, wow, of all the things she didn’t expect today.

“Yeah, I’m familiar with... is that mustard?” She pointed at the yellow container from which the redhead was drinking.

“Indeed, would you like some?” she offered her straw to the ex-thief.

“Thank, but I’ll pass” she said.

She watched with morbid curiosity as Starfire continued to sip the mustard like it was a slushie. Then she shrugged, remembering some of Mammoth’s eating habits.

“Are you familiar with darker magics?” Jinx asked.

Starfire nodded, “I am not”

Jinx nodded along, “so, why the question?”

“I was thinking” The alien started, before an air of seriousness overtook her, she looked around as if checking to see no one was listening in on them, then gestured Jinx to come closer.

Her voice lowered, but her excitement was clear.

“I was thinking, that perhaps it will be good for friend Raven to have more people here who share her most obscure interests. As much as I like our ‘girl talks’ I must admit my knowledge is, not the most impressive”

“I see” Jinx thought about it, there weren’t that many magic users back at HIVE either, so this would be a first for her.

“If she’s up to it, I think it’ll be nice”

At that moment, Jinx became acquainted with Starfire’s hugs. And was she glad she’d never fought the girl one on one; she could break her like a twig.

“How joyful!” Starfire exclaimed, finally releasing the hex caster.

“Yeah, uh” Jinx coughed, trying to catch her breath, “Too bad I don’t have my books with me”

“And where are these books of yours?” the alien asked.

“Well, I kinda have all my stuff scattered around HIVE hideouts” Jinx mentioned, “I took some stuff with me when I left with Kid Flash, but…”

“Is this ‘stuff’ of value to you, friend Jinx?”

Jinx thought about it, she really didn’t have much to begin with. Her clothes, she could replace, though her favorite hoodie was something she wouldn’t mind getting back. She had some sketchbooks here and there, and then her magic tomes. That was pretty much it.

“Yeah? I guess” she answered, honestly, “we were taught to be able to part with our stuff, living on the run and all that. But it would be nice to get some of them back”

“Then we shall” Starfire’s expression turned serious again.

She said we.

“Ah, don’t worry Star, it’s just some old books. I don’t wanna get you in trouble” After all, her old hideouts would most likely have the security mechanisms up and running.

“Nonsense. We shall help you get your ‘stuff’” the girl said, “it will help you feel more at home here, yes?”

“I mean, home is a pretty big word, I don’t-“ She hadn’t thought of home in a while, less alone what it felt like.

“Listen, I’ll think about it, okay?”

“Understood” Starfire’s look meant business. But it didn’t last for long.

Soon after, the alien girl excused herself, eager to chat with all of the new people there.

As soon as she left, Jinx felt a gust of wind as Kid Flash stopped next to her.

“Sooooo, I see you’re doing good; how do you feel?” He asked.

“This is so weird” She said, “is it really this easy?”

Sure, he’d been pretty open to her, but that had been just him. She never expected all of them to just, let her in.

He scratched his chin, pretending to be deep in thought.

“Mmm, nope” he said, “but you did just help save the world”

“Don’t remind me”

She waved him away and he rushed off.

If she was about to be here for a while, she might as well try to mingle with the rest.

She finally made her way towards the small group sitting near the screen. And since most of them were sitting at the floor, she found a spot on the couch for herself.

Beast Boy and Aqualad were sitting next to her, each holding their own controller.

There was a four-player racing game on the screen. Jinx had no idea who was playing who, but she was only half-watching the game. The real entertainment here were the crowd’s reactions.

The cheers whenever they managed to pass someone else, the threats when something didn’t go their way. It was almost familiar to her. She could almost picture her old teammates there with her, this was what they did most of their days off.

She was still wrapping her head around that part, how there would never be days like that again.

She was about to get lost in her own mind when she noticed something floating her way. A cup of tea. It stopped short of her face, so she assumed it was for her. Taking the warm cup in her hands, she let the smell of tea ease her mind a little.

She settled down, watching the game and enjoying her tea.

Then she saw someone familiar approaching her.

“So, you’re switching sides, huh?” Bee smirked, sitting next to her on the couch.

“yeah”

“That’s cool”

“I guess”

The entire exchange was awkward, for both teens. Jinx saw it on Bee’s body language, she was stiff as a board.

Come to think of it, they never were the best of friends while Bee was undercover at HIVE. Sure, they knew of each other’s existence, but that was about it.

Something smelled like a set-up.

“Who sent you?” Jinx casually asked.

“What?” Bee tried to laugh it off.

Man, jinx thought, how did she manage to be undercover for so long?

“We’ve never talked before” she said, “not even back at HIVE. My guess is someone put you up for this, probably something about you being ‘a friendly face’ or whatever”

Jinx had two probable suspects, Robin, Kid Flash, maybe Cyborg too. Make it three suspects.

Bee smiled, a genuine smile this time. Jinx saw her shoulders relax almost instantly.

“You got me” Bee put her hands up, “I’m not really good with people, to be honest. Robin thought it’d be nice if you at least talked to someone you knew, even if only by face”

“Yeah? Well, that’s…” stupid? That’s what she was about to say. But really, it showed that he, that they were trying to make her feel more comfortable. Even if they sucked at it.

“That’s really nice of him”

Jinx took a sip of her tea.

“I know we never really got to talk” Bee said, “I wasn’t there to make friends and shit”

Jinx chuckled.

“But if you want to, you can swing by titans east sometime. I wouldn’t mind practicing with someone who actually knows what they’re doing” Bee winked, grinning.

Jinx smiled, “Yeah, I could give you some tips on rounding up a bunch of lazy assholes”

“Don’t. Even. Get me. Started.” Bee sighed.

“Hey! I’m right here!” Aqualad protested from his spot on the couch.

Unfortunately for him, this drop on his focus caused him to lose the current match.

Both girls laughed as he quit his spot and went somewhere else.

“Any of you wanna play?” Beast Boy asked, offering them the controller Aqualad had left.

“I’m good, thanks” Bee declined.

“Yeah, trust me, I don’t do good with techy stuff” Jinx said.

“Fair enough” The green teen said before moving on trying to recruit someone else.

“So, how was it like to manage both Gizmo and Billy?” Bee asked, getting back on their conversation.

Jinx groaned, “it was hell, I tell you, but Baran helped”

They spent most of the evening talking. Not quite like friends, but it was a start.

Jinx had to admit, Robin kind of succeeded in the end.

She pretended not to notice the sudden yellow blur flash by her spot every now and then. She also pretended not to notice a pair of eyes on her from somewhere around the room. She knew they were trying to see how she was doing.

And if she was being honest, maybe it won’t be so hard to get used to this.

Night came, eventually.

The common areas of Titan Tower were mostly empty. Everyone had gone off to sleep by now, some taking one of the many guest bedrooms the titans offered.

Moonlight spilled through the window of the main lobby, illuminating a sleeping form on the couch. It didn’t quite reach the ominous shadow looming over her.

“What are you doing here?” Raven questioned. Her voice enough to startle the ex-thief awake.

Jinx opened her eyes, her body locking up instinctively. She tried to remember where she was, what she was doing, who had spoken to her just now. As soon as her mind came back with a name for the voice, she let herself relax.

She stretched, yawning.

“I was sleeping, are you not familiar with the concept?” She quipped.

And maybe that wasn’t the politest thing to say, but she was cranky when woken up.

Raven smiled, or maybe she didn’t. Jinx convinced herself it was a trick of the light.

“I do sleep, if you can believe that” the titan said, “is the couch better than our beds?”

Jinx didn’t answer immediately. She debated whether she was willing to be this open, this fast, with her new hosts. It usually took her some time to warm up to people, try years.

But maybe she could put herself out there, so they could let her in.

Sometimes you just need to speed things up.

By the time she made her decision, Raven had gone off to the kitchen and started boiling some water.

“Tonight it is, yeah” Jinx said as she walked over and jumped over the counter, “y’know, new place, new faces. I wouldn’t get any sleep on a normal bed. Maybe next week, but not tonight”

She half expected more questions after that. But nothing came.

Only a pensive hum from the titan.

“You don’t have to force yourself to answer if you’re not comfortable, you know?” Raven said.

The titan started serving two cups of tea.

“I- how do you-“ Jinx went through the list of data she’d been given about Raven, most of it was unconfirmed though, and she didn’t remember it saying she could read minds.

“I’m sorry, but you think too loud” she said.

And then it clicked for Jinx, and she remembered. Raven’s an empath.

“oh” she said, still thinking about the implications of her thoughts being so loud that Raven doesn’t have to try to hear them.

“Here, this may help” Raven said, offering one of the tea cups.

The cup floated over to Jinx, who grabbed it and held it with both hands.

“Thanks” she let the warmth spread through her. She hadn’t really gone looking for bedsheets before crashing at the couch.

She took a breath, inhaling the sweet scent of chamomile.

“But keeping secrets will make me look more suspicious” she spoke up, “won’t it?

The empath shrugged.

“It depends, really. Everyone has their secrets”

Jinx cocked her head to the side, curious. “Everyone, you say?”

Raven nods.

“Even you?”

“Even me”

Jinx pondered that for a moment. She was dying to know more about the girl standing in front of her. Not only because it was the one person not even HIVE could research well enough to have dependable data on. Or because Starfire was already setting them up for friendship.

She was just curious about her. Jinx couldn’t really explain it.

“Okay, I believe you” She decided not to press any further.

She could be patient, for now.

“Joy.” Raven deadpanned, “Now, I won’t push you towards anything. But I would feel better if you slept somewhere, anywhere, else”

“Why?”

“Big window, not unbreakable”

That was all the explanation Jinx needed, she was convinced.

“What do you suggest?” She asked.

She could almost see the gears turning on Raven’s mind. She was debating on something, Jinx could tell.

“Somewhere more familiar than a guest room, perhaps”

“A’ight boss, lead the way”

Jinx was about to take a sip from her tea when both teens were engulfed in darkness.

They emerged at Raven’s room, even darker now than it had been earlier.

“I mean” Jinx said, “I only went here today”

“And the time you and your team took over the tower” Raven took no time answering.

“And the time me and my team took over the tower” Jinx repeated. No use faking innocence.

“Wait, how’d you know I came in here?”

Raven shrugged. Jinx chose not to push it.

Maybe they’d just checked the surveillance cameras.

“Do you have any pajamas?” Raven asked, “would you like some?”

Jinx looked closer, and she noticed the teen was wearing a black shirt and some dark pajama pants with a pattern she couldn’t distinguish that well. She had been sleeping in the same outfit she’d wore that day, didn’t bring any extra clothes.

“You have anything?”

“I’ll see what I can find”

Raven went over to what Jinx assumed was her closet.

“I’m not sleeping on any beds” Jinx said, looking over the huge circular bed at the center of the room.

“I know” came Raven’s reply, accompanied by a floating set of cushions and blankets that landed on the floor near the window.

“Here, you can wear these, bathroom’s over there” Raven handed some clothes to Jinx.

Jinx went and changed quickly, without even turning the lights on. Once she came back, she settled down near the window, sipping what was left of her tea.

Raven was on her bed now, but she wasn’t sleeping.

“Why’re you letting me stay in your room?” Jinx asked.

One thing she knew, Raven liked her privacy.

“I’m sure you can figure it out” Raven said.

Jinx thought about it for a moment.

“What are you thinking?” the titan asked after a few minutes.

“Don’t you know what I’m thinking?” Jinx asked.

“I make an effort not to”

This made Jinx pause. All day, everyone had been nothing but kind to her. Raven in particular seemed to be going out of her way to see that she’s alright.

I’m thinking ‘geez, this sure seems nice. The trusting, the caring, what’s the catch?’ y’know. I’m thinking… maybe you have me here to keep an eye on me” Jinx didn’t really think that, if they wanted to keep an eye on her, they could do so no matter where in the tower she stayed.

“There’s no catch” Raven said, and then she paused for a moment.

“Quite frankly, I’ve known you more than I’ve known some of the people sleeping here today. Heroes or not, my trust isn’t earned in a day”

Jinx let her words sink in, from where she was, she could almost make out Raven’s shape. The only thing she could see clearly were her eyes.

Violet, caring eyes illuminated by the moonlight.

“You’re worried some of ‘em won’t be as easy on me as you guys, aren’t you?” Jinx said. It came out as a question, but she was pretty sure she’d figured it out.

“I’ve had some firsthand experience with heroes that think, just because they know where you come from, that they know who you are” Raven said.

Jinx could almost read it in her eyes, if she knew the words. She was familiar with bad memories, even if she didn’t know what they were about.

“I’m guessing that’s a secret for another day”

“Very smart” Raven said, “Now, go to sleep”

Jinx smiled.

“Yes, ma’am. Good night to you too”

The pajamas were, as Jinx would come to realize the next morning, a matching set of My Melody and Kuromi pajama pants, paired with black band t-shirts.
