Fic contains simply the plot of Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk, multi-chaptered since this concept was loved a lot in twitter so I plan to make multiple oneshots based on this plot alone.

Notes:

thanks to my friend who i shared this moment during clinical duty with when the handwriting in the order of the patient’s chart was shit but when it was pointed to us on who wrote the order, i immediately said “men have their red flags and we can forgive them for it”

RN: registered nurse
CRRN: basically for ICU nurses if they accomplish being ICU nurses for an amount of years, they take the test, they get this credential
MAN: masters of arts in nursing

Chapter Text

Note: I changed some info from the threadfic from twitter to this fic but it’s minor changes!! The plot is still the same, I just changed some details.

🩺🧠

“We are delighted to have you, Kim Dokja-ssi.” Kim Dokja, RN., CRRN., MAN., aged 28, smiled when the director of the hospital welcomed him.

“Likewise. I cannot wait to start. I appreciate this so much, Dr. Kyrgios.” The man smiled at him and walked him out of his office. Dokja sighed and went ahead to his assigned unit.

Kim Dokja, who has 3 credentials at the back of his name, and aims to have his PhD in a year, was offered a better job at Seoul Medical Hospital, the top hospital in the country of South Korea, to be a staff nurse in the OR after completing a few years handling the ICU ward. Kim Dokja loves being a nurse, especially in specialties that are very intimidating to most nurses and he loves excelling in them. He has plans to be included in some research that some doctors are handling but he has to focus first on his dissertation before fully incorporating himself in a research team. The more credentials, the better, is what Kim Dokja thinks to himself.

“Good Morning, I am Kim Dokja and I am the new staff nurse. Please take care of me!” Kim Dokja introduced himself once he got to the ward he was assigned in.

“Ah! Yes, Hello Kim Dokja-ssi. I am Lee Hyunsung, the head nurse here. I have read your resume and file, very impressive work considering you’re only below the age of 30. We expect a lot of you but for now, we will be touring you and training you for the week before you fully immerse yourself in the OR. So, for this week, you will be solely in the ward, is that understood?” Lee Hyunsung, a man that looks too kind to be the head nurse.

‘Is it really a common stereotype that head nurses are scary? Or is that only from my experience?’ Kim Dokja thought to himself and shook hands with Hyunsung. “Nice to meet you and that is understood. I have done the OR shift before but changed to the ICU after 2 years so brief training and orientation is very appreciated.” Dokja said and Hyunsung smiled.

“So, you can see where everything is, such as the medicine room for medicine preparation, charts and other needed materials.” Hyunsung said and took out a small notebook from one of the drawers. “Here’s a notebook for all the contact information of the doctors that handle the patients here.” He said, handing the notebook to Dokja.

“But since everyone here is familiar with all the doctors, usually everyone has the contact information listed there. I had this done in my first year as chief nurse since not everyone has everyone. You can take a picture or add them to your phone as you wish.” Hyunsung said and Dokja flipped through the thin notebook and nodded seeing through them.

“Since it is the morning, you can start with familiarizing with 5 patients at least. We have 15 as of now but shifts are changing in an hour and orders were given just an hour ago. Feel free to take charts that you want to handle and you can get started.” Hyunsung said and patted a chair beside him as he sat down. “You can sit beside me so that if you have questions, you can immediately direct them to me.” Dokja smiled.

“A kind chief nurse, very rare to say the least.” Dokja commented and Hyunsung laughed.

“Is a kind chief nurse usually scary from your experience?” Hyunsung asked, grabbing a chart and Dokja doing the same.

“Yeah, it sucks but I became tough like them too, especially as a novice nurse.” Dokja said and Hyunsung smiled.

“I have the same experience but for me, as long as people know you’re not a pushover and be strict but kind at the same time, it works all the same but they trust you better.” Hyunsung said and they immediately went to read charts.

Dokja immediately opened the chart and looked through the information.

Patient: Ran Haneul

Admitting Diagnosis: Headaches, Patient verbalized unable to relieve with sleep and medication and intensity at random times per day. Unable to think properly, as verbalized by the patient.

Final Diagnosis: Aneurysm, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) - Pre-eclampsia

Treating Physicians:

  • Yoo Joonghyuk (Neurosurgeon, Head of Neurosurgery, Board Director )
  • Yoo Sangah (Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Neonatologist, Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Surgery, Head of OB/GYN and Neonatal Surgery)
  • Han Sooyoung (General Surgery, Director of Residency Program)
  • Kyrgios Rodgraim (Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Chief of Surgery, Board Director)

“Hmm? Can you read this handwriting? It’s the order for this morning by Dr. Yoo.” Dokja said as he went from the first page to the order sheets, the paper where doctors place their orders on any time of the day. Hyunsung laughed, his eyes not leaving the chart he was studying.

“That's been an issue ever since, forever at this point. No one has the guts to just come up to his face and tell him about it.” Hyunsung says and Dokja is confused.

“What?” He is genuinely confused.

He has encountered doctors who are very intimidating but not that intimidating as years passed by and this issue just becomes “normal” and nurses are forced to adjust for the doctor.

“Look,” Hyunsung turned to him and sighed. “Dr. Yoo is extremely intimidating. Not just his height or his personality or aura but how he interacts with people and always glares at them as if you breathing is a mistake. The reason he hasn’t been reprimanded much is because people don’t complain and that he is an excellent surgeon.”

“Yeah but, that doesn’t mean he just goes and continues this habit.” Dokja said to himself and looked at Hyunsung. “Can you call him up for me?”

“What?” Hyunsung turned to Dokja who smiled and nodded at him. “You want me to call him? Why?”

“Tell him to his face that he has to change this habit of his, of course.” Dokja said and put back the chart he was currently handling and got a new one, realizing that there is a medication scheduled in 30 minutes, he readied to continue reading about the new patient’s information.

“Are you sure? I’m not going to stop you since I warned you but I will also try to stop you because you will bury yourself into the ground with just one glance of his.” Hyunsung said and Dokja shrugged.

“Yeah. It’s not like he can hold a grudge, that’s unprofessional and human resources can handle any backlash he does to me from this complaint anyway.” Dokja said and looked at Hyunsung.

Hyunsung laughed and gave Dokja the telephone. “You call him and let’s see if you’ll be strong enough to face him.”

Dokja rolled his eyes and dialed the number of Dr. Yoo, who answered 3 rings into the call.

“Yoo Joonghyuk speaking.”

Dokja gulped at the deep voice. ‘Shit, why does this man have a sexy deep voice?’

“Hello Dr. Yoo, Good Morning. This is nurse Kim Dokja from the Medical-Surgical Ward. I am currently reading through the case of Ran Haneul and I would like some clarification from your order this morning. Would you have the time to drop by?” Dokja asked.

“Okay. I am currently in rounds in the pediatric ward. Expect me to be there in 30 minutes to an hour.” Dr. Yoo stated, a very cold and deep voice which made Dokja’s spine run.

“Alright, thank you for your time then.” Dokja thanked him and hung up the phone.

Hyunsung is currently praying to the Gods right now for Kim Dokja to not be killed on his first day at work.

🩺🧠

Hyunsung was peacefully preparing medication when a knock on the counter was heard. He looked to see and it was Dr. Yoo. He gulped and smiled at him.

“Good Morning Dr. Yoo. Kim Dokja is currently administering some medications and checking titration infusions. He will be back in a few.” Dr. Yoo looked at him and nodded.

“Okay, I’ll borrow Ran Haneul’s chart for the moment.” Hyunsung nodded and Dr. Yoo went behind the counter to get the chart and started reading.

Dr. Yoo, regardless of his reputation as the “untouchable doctor,” due to his personality and cold aloofness, he is still respectful and tends to treat interns better when it comes to learning experiences. But of course, he also makes interns have a hard time and it’s reasonable, it’s like a rite of passage at this point.

Everyone that is in a 2 meter radius, meaning inside the nurse’s station, is silent. Simply observing the very attractive doctor but also due to his reputation, is now walking on eggshells and have come to pray for the new nurse that invited him here. Oh how they loved his cheery and sassy attitude while it lasted, which was only for 2 hours at most.

“Hyunsung-ssi, room 213 had faster infusion than expected. She was supposed to have 50mL left but it’s now 30mL. I contacted Dr. Lee Seolhwa about this and she agreed in slowing down the infusion rate and she’s going to come back and write up another order.” Kim Dokja went into the nurse’s station and got the chart of the patient, documenting the exchange between him and Dr. Lee Seolhwa. “Room 215 is having complaints on her contraptions, kindly contact Dr. Han Sooyoung about this please.”

“Alright, I’ll contact her.” Another nurse. Cho Youngran said, immediately having her phone up her ear and contacting the doctor.

Yoo Joonghyuk heard of the conversation and caught a glimpse of the nurse. ‘This must be Kim Dokja since it’s the first time I am seeing him.’ He thought.

One thing that Joonghyuk noticed was how the blue scrubs really did look good and defined his small waist, hips and how long his figure was. And it was certainly adorable that he tried his best to command his work but also proceed to give a smile to whoever he interacted with. Him writing on the charts immediately while standing up just showed his figure better and he curls his lip when he’s concentrating.

“Dokja-ssi, Dr. Yoo is there waiting for you. The one with the glasses.” Hyunsung said and Joonghyuk redirected his gaze to the chart so he wouldn’t be caught staring.

“Alright, thank you Hyunsung-ssi.” Dokja said and went to the doctor, bowing first. “Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk-ssi?”

Yoo Joonghyuk looked up to see the nurse, who by the way, not only does he have a nice body but he has a pretty face too, handsome can be thrown in the mix.

“Nurse Kim Dokja, right?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked, already knowing who he was and pushed his glasses up. “I asked the chief (of surgery) for your basic credentials and you are very talented considering you’re only 28. Planning for a doctorate?” He asked.

‘Is he really making small talk right now? I thought he should be intimidating?’ Kim Dokja thought and little did he know, the same thoughts were on the persons around them that are eavesdropping the conversation.

“I actually am in the process of working on my dissertation. It’s a little hard but it’s to be expected.” Dokja laughed and Joonghyuk is trying to resist himself from smiling at how pretty his laugh was.

“Of course. That is to be given.” Yoo Joonghyuk flipped through the papers, as if finding certain information that he needed and seemed busy but in reality, he just wanted to look busy because Dokja’s eyes seemed to shine with stars in them. “What did you need clarification on by the way?” He finally asked.

“This.” Dokja stole the chart from Joonghyuk who let him have it, even if Dokja didn’t ask for permission since the chart was in Joonghyuk’s hands.

‘He didn’t kill Dokja-ssi?’ The unknowing audience looked as the chart from Joonghyuk’s hands had been swiftly taken by Dokja, they all held their breaths but Joonghyuk simply rested his head on his hand that was resting on the counter. He simply looked at Dokja who was flipping through the chart.

“See this?” Dokja places the chart on the counter and Joonghyuk looks over, it was the order for this morning. He knew of the concern Dokja had but was confused about what it was about, until.

“You have shit handwriting, that's what that is.” Dokja smiled while Joonghyuk’s eyebrow twitched. “But in professional terms, you have handwriting that has been deemed as difficult to comprehend and would be needing at least 15 minutes with 4 nurses to read the order.”

“Shit handwriting then? What matters more is that you decipher it, not how long it takes to decipher.” Joonghyuk stated.

Honestly, he didn’t know why he would say that. He loves nurses and thinks that they are an important factor and backbone in the health care setting but seeing a very sassy and straightforward nurse which is a very rare occurrence in his work place, he needed to see what this new nurse has to offer.

“What are you trying to say then?” Dokja said, confusion and slight anger in his face, obviously that he’s trying to understand the man in front of him and trying to get some context.

“You aren’t a good nurse if you can’t decipher a mere handwriting issue.” Joonghyuk said and he briefly sees Dokja clicking his tongue.

“You aren’t a good doctor if you think that nurses should be the one to adjust to your issues and problems.” Dokja bit back, wanting to throw the word ‘asshole’ in there but he doesn’t want to be called to human resources in cases that the doctor in front of him files a complaint.

The people around them looked at them both with horror. Lee Hyunsung is already planning for Dokja’s funeral and is deciding to contact Dr. Kyrgios, the Chief of Surgery, about the issue for a new staff nurse for the ward. The people around them stiffen and hold their breath when they notice that the glare in Joonghyuk’s eyes harden and his jaw clenches.

“Look.” Dokja said and readjusted his stance, trying to calm himself. “I participated in a research that claims a common factor in medication administration errors are caused by poor handwriting of doctors and nurses alike. I get that you are in a rush to do your rounds and get them done immediately, I respect what you do to patients and the hospital. But, I cannot stand idly by when nurses take precious time off their schedule to decipher an order which can compromise efficiency and productivity of nurses. If your time is precious then our time is as well. I hope you understand where I am getting at.” Dokja said, with Joonghyuk staring at him intensely.

There was a silence following that, the people around them were praying for Kim Dokja’s soul, Lee Hyunsung went away with a headache and was trying to check on medications of the patients, even when he came back, it was still silent.

Kim Dokja was trembling inside his shoes but his pride is something that you can never take from him. He didn’t sacrifice the majority of his life in this profession just for some mere doctor to downgrade him. He also went to college, got his masters and had a high position among ICU nurses! He shouldn’t be someone to be underestimated just because he didn’t go to medical school.

“Okay.” Joonghyuk removed his glasses and stared at Dokja, who had blushed slightly because damn, Yoo Joonghyuk is undeniably attractive. “I will try to fix my handwriting and will be working hard for it.” Joonghyuk said as he wiped his glasses lens.

The people around them, including Dokja, are shocked. ‘Yoo Joonghyuk? THE YOO JOONGHYUK? Will adjust for other people?’ Was Kim Dokja a God in his previous life? Or someone who saved the entire nation from war. Lee Hyunsung is even prepared to throw a feast at the end of the shift for Dokja.

“Thank you.” Dokja said, relieved. “It would also help you though! So that nurses and other staff don’t bother to call you all the time for clarification on orders.” Dokja smiled.

“No one calls me for clarifications on my orders, they resolve it themselves. Which is why I always thought it was not a problem.” Joonghyuk said and Dokja chuckled. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing. The situation is just a little funny for some reason.” Dokja said, smiling.

“Since you did say that nurses cannot read my handwriting, did you understand my order from this morning?” Joonghyuk asked.

“Vital Signs are to be taken every 1 hour, Discontinue Heparin 5 days status post craniotomy, refer to Dr. Han Sooyoung for complaints on constipation and urinary retention, administer 24 hour urine collection, for pain administer morphine sulfate 2mL PRN, do culture and sensitivity test, if results from the C&S test show R (Resistance) to penicillin and cephalosporins fluoroquinolone classification drugs are to be administered, all medications will be screened first with permission and order of Dr. Yoo Sangah, daily rounds for maternal and fetal well-being will be done by Dr. Yoo Sangah (Attending) and Jung Minseob (Surgical Intern), refer to Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk for complaints on surgical site, refer to Dr. Kyrgios Rodgraim for proper monitoring of preeclampsia. Do nursing management for pre-eclampsia and prevent seizures and eclampsia manifestations. Contact all physicians with minimal manifestations that show manifestations of eclampsia. Continue medications ordered by Dr. Yoo Sangah and contact her for any clarifications on medications after clarification with the ordering physician.” Dokja said while looking at Joonghyuk.

“It’s a long order right? How long did it take you to decipher that?” Joonghyuk was impressed. It was a long order considering that the patient just got out of surgery and was a pregnant woman and was already a high risk pregnancy which led to the final diagnosis.

Dokja gave a sly smile and chuckled. “As soon as I read it.”

Joonghyuk furrowed his eyebrows and closed the chart, preparing to open his mouth to speak, Dokja got ahead of him. “I also already contacted all physicians assigned to the patient and introduced myself. I got clarifications on all instructions and medications and nursing management are already on the case. All laboratory tests are also on the way already except the 24 urine collection but it has started already before you got here.” Dokja smiled.

There was a silence and people around them noticed a slight expression on the doctor’s face which showed contentment and amusement.

“If you have nothing else, as I have nothing else that I need, I will go back to my work.” Dokja said, waiting for an indication that he was free to go.

“Go ahead. I’ll look forward to your updates. No need to update me on what the other attending physicians say, I’ll get updates from them myself.” Joonghyuk said and nodded his head in acknowledgement.

“Thank you, Dr. Yoo. And I hope you have a nice day.”

“I hope you have a nice day too, Kim Dokja-ssi.”

🩺🧠

Joonghyuk went out of their line of sight and everyone just crowded Dokja.

“Are you alright?”

“You’re so brave, oppa.”

“First one to battle against THE Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk, congrats bro.”

“Alright, everyone back to work.” Hyunsung said and took a seat beside Dokja. “Why even bother calling him up when you knew in the first place?” He asked the man.

“Someone just had to do it, and just because I can read it, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t fix his habit.” Dokja said and looked at the hallway in front of him. “Plus, you talked high and big about him, I just wanted to see him by myself.”

“So, what do you think about him?” Hyunsung asked while preparing medication cards.

Dokja smiled to himself and giggled, doing little kicks of his feet which Hyunsung looked at him weird for.

“He’s alright.” He simply said but he remembered the face of the man when he rested it on his palm while that arm had its elbow propped on the counter. He looked so interested in Dokja, eyes are soft unlike what most people say that he has a constant glare on his eyes. Dokja just can’t help but giggle at the encounter.

“He’s very pretty.” He muttered to himself before taking another chart and doing nurse’s notes.

🩺🧠

“What I did was I asked the Ran Haneul about certain stressors that she had to minimize possible elevation of her blood pressure and prevent eclampsia. The team avoided her stressors and did our best for cluster care. Her vital signs the past few days have been high but it has been the same, going over 130/90 at times. We also do the fetal heart monitoring every vital sign taking precautionary measures as instructed by Dr. Yoo Sangah and there is an increase at times but within the normal range.” Dokja said as he was presenting recent findings of the patient to the attending doctors, which were Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk. Dr. Kyrgios Rodgraim, Dr. Han Sooyoung, and Dr. Yoo Sangah.

“So, all in all, normal.”  Dr. Han Sooyoung exclaimed.

“Yeah but apparently she has stressors at home as well so kindly do health teachings on both her and the husband.” Dr. Yoo Sangah stated and Kim Dokja nodded.

“Due to her being pre-eclamptic, she needs additional prenatal care and would add cardiac examinations every time she does prenatal care. Kindly remind her of that too.” Dr. Kyrgios said and Kim Dokja nodded, taking notes down in his little notebook.

“Recent MRI scans show no significant bleeding and all in all looks normal. But all reminders to prevent stress should be done because it seems that her preeclampsia is a factor in causing the aneurysm.” Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk stated while looking through the chart and Kim Dokja nodded.

“It’s so cute that you have a little notebook. I only see interns and student nurses still carrying around a little notebook.” Yoo Sangah said and Kim Dokja laughed.

“It’s just a ‘better be safe than sorry’ method. I tend to forget things easily, much more when I was a student nurse, and this was a method that just worked and it stuck.” Dokja explained, closing the notebook and looking at the doctors who were seated down.

They were at the conference room and all data was presented. Yoo Joonghyuk stated that the primary nurse in-charge of the patient was Kim Dokja and they were all surprised that he presented even pre-op and health history, the data that was obtained before he went to work.

“Looks like everything is handled. Dr. Yoo Sangah will handle the final order for the patient and can order a ‘may go home’ order. Any other questions, you can direct it to the attending physician who can.” Dr. Kyrgios said and all of them stood up, thanking each other and leaving.

Except for one doctor.

“Hey you idiot. I finally got time to see you inside the hospital.” Han Sooyoung said as she hugged Dokja who laughed.

“Aww, you missed me?” Dokja asked and Sooyoung rolled her eyes.

“Asshole, of course I did. I told you, the job here is amazing, I don’t know why you stuck for that third rate hospital anyway, and for 4 years too.” Sooyoung said and Dokja flicked her on her forehead, causing her to whine.

“It might not be the best but I spent my time there since my mentor asked me to. Just be happy that I’m here.” Dokja said and Sooyoung smiled.

“Yeah yeah, I hear you. Want to have some dinner later?” She asked and Dokja, who was collecting all the files that the doctors used earlier, nodded.

“Sure! Just text me when you’re done and we can meet up at the lobby.” He said and she agreed and they went separate ways.

Dokja immediately walked back to the ward. After 2 weeks following his first day, he became more busy. Especially when his specialty was in neurosurgery so naturally, he worked with Yoo Joonghyuk alot as a scrub nurse.

He still remembers the first time that he scrubbed into a surgery and found out it was the Surgery performed by Yoo Joonghyuk.

“I did not expect that Kim Dokja would be my scrub nurse for today’s surgery.” Joonghyuk said while getting gowned and Dokja laughed.

“I’ll try my best so please try to take care of me.” Dokja replied and Joonghyuk raised his eyebrows in acknowledgement.

“Don’t worry, when you’re with me. You’re in good hands.” Joonghyuk replied and looked at the surgical site. “10 Blade.”

Dokja laughed to himself since a lot of people were asking as to why Joonghyuk was so nice to him and didn’t try to berate him. Hell, the intern that was assisting in the case, was asked a question by Joonghyuk, resulting in him not answering due to nerves and Dokja had to step in saying, “Calm down Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk-ssi. Look, your navigation should be delicate here since you are going deeper, please be careful and don’t let your emotions get the best of you now.”

People didn’t know why Dokja got the good side of Joonghyuk, and Dokja didn’t understand why there was a bad side of Yoo Joonghyuk in the first place. Dokja immediately understood that Yoo Joonghyuk was there, he just didn’t have other emotions and didn’t like showcasing his emotions, a common personality so he didn’t know why others were so intimidated. So, as much as possible, Dokja just tried to speak with him casually, he’s good with reading other people and Joonghyuk was the type of person that was okay with being forward with, you just have to tread carefully since Joonghyuk tends to result to anger and an intimidating personality which has been his default personality.

‘Why be scared anyway, he’s also human.’ Dokja said to himself while fixing some files. ‘Well, he can legally stab someone so,’ Dokja was just in his train of thought, not noticing that he was just staring at the chart in front of him, and a certain doctor was approaching him.

“Are you paid in slacking off, Kim Dokja?” Joonghyuk said and took a seat beside Dokja.

“I can get at least 5 minutes just thinking okay.” Dokja said and Joonghyuk chuckled. “What are you doing here?”

“What? A doctor can’t be in the nurses’ station?” Joonghyuk asked as he leaned back.

“It’s called a nurses’ station for a reason.” Dokja pointed out with a sly grin and laughed. “No but really, what are you doing here? I thought you had surgery in an hour.”

“I do and you’re scrubbing in as usual.” Dokja rolled his eyes. After that first encounter of Yoo Joonghyuk but inside the operating room, Yoo Joonghyuk requested for Dokja to be his default scrub and or circulating nurse in all his surgeries.

Of course, the chief nurses and the doctors were more than welcome to accept this condition since a lot of nurses and interns do not like working with Joonghyuk. Maybe with the presence of Dokja in the operating room, they wouldn’t mind being in the same room as Joonghyuk for a minimum of 10 hours due to neurosurgery having long surgery times regardless of the procedure. When it’s neuro, it’s always long.

“I just wanted to visit Ran Haneul for the last time before she got discharged. She got the order already right?” Joonghyuk said and Dokja nodded.

“Well, she is a sunshine. Loves to ramble a lot but not the annoying kind, she’s so fun to converse with.” Dokja said and Joonghyuk simply looked at him.

Dokja was known, regardless of only staying 2 weeks in the hospital, to be a very hard worker. He remembered significant things regarding his patients and that was a big thing when he handled both the ward and operating room. Which is why he was so curious why a notebook was always on Dokja’s person when he remembered everything clearly. Like a photographic memory.

And that Dokja clearly loved when he did. Regardless of overtime or the fatigue it comes with, he sees the man always smiling and he cracks jokes in the operating room whenever he senses that Joonghyuk gets so stressed just to lighten up the mood, but of course knows the time and place to crack some jokes when Joonghyuk appreciates to his bone.

“I was already going to give her some health teachings before she goes home and a final vital signs check. Want to come with me?” Dokja asked the man who nodded at him. Dokja went to get the sphygmomanometer and pulse oximeter as well as his stethoscope then went to the room.

🩺🧠

“Ran Haneul-ssi, good afternoon! I’m just here to give some health teachings and get vital signs while you’re still here.” Dokja smiled at her and she smiled at the two visitors.

“Ah yes, Nurse Dokja-ssi and Dr. Joonghyuk-ssi.” She smiled at them and immediately offered her arm which Dokja thanked her for. “Thank you by the way for taking care of me. Both of you and the other doctors have been so lovely to me.”

“It was nothing, don’t you worry.” Dokja said and proceeded to ask her for pain to which she responded to not having any. “Alright, I did come here for some health teachings and we have Dr. Yoo just in case you want to ask other questions as well.”

Dokja proceeded to give her a folded paper with all the reminders that she had to remember. ‘Smart’ Joonghyuk thought because she was going to remember a lot of things and giving her a piece of paper that she can remember and look through was very caring.

Joonghyuk glanced at the man who was giving his health teachings to the patient, he looked so happy while talking to her and even entertained her questions and didn’t mind that she was cutting him off while he explained. He was very gentle and Joonghyuk can feel his heart racing just from seeing how pretty he is with his shining eyes and loving smile.

After their errands in the patient’s room, they bid her farewell and they left.

“Thanks for coming to see her by the way. I could tell she was very happy to have her questions answered and bid goodbye to the man that saved her life after all.” Dokja said and proceeded to document his findings in the chart as he took a seat, Joonghyuk sitting beside him.

“It was nothing. I was glad to do so anyway.” Joonghyuk said and Dokja smiled at him.

“And people say that the Dr. Yoo Joonghyuk had no heart inside of him.” Dokja said and Joonghyuk just looked at him. Sensing no reply from the man, Dokja looked at him and smiled. “You have a big heart, Joonghyuk-ssi. I’m glad that I can see you in a different light than others.”

Joonghyuk nodded at him and Dokja smiled again, before writing notes again on the chart. The Kim Dokja, always so hardworking, always so gentle, always so smart and one step ahead of him and most people he worked with, always so loving and shining.

“Are you free this Saturday night?” Joonghyuk asked and Dokja hummed.

“Yeah, I am. Why are you asking?” Dokja said, not taking his eyes off the chart.

“I want to ask you out on a date.” Joonghyuk said and Dokja looked at him. Thankfully they were the only ones in the nurses’ station now.

“Can I ask why?” Dokja asked.

“You can find out during the date.” Dokja laughed.

“Smart so that I’m inclined to have a date with you so that I can know.” Dokja said and Joonghyuk chuckled while shaking his head.

“You can say ‘No,’ I’m not forcing you if you don’t want to.” Joonghyuk said and Dokja smiled.

“I’m saying yes, don’t worry. I am also glad you asked me out to be honest.” Dokja blushed and in an attempt to hide it, he went back to writing on the chart.

“I’ll pick you up from your place then. Is 7pm good for you?” Joonghyuk asked and Dokja simply nodded. Joonghyuk can see that Dokja was hiding a smile and can feel his own ears getting warm.

“I’ll see you then, Dokja-ssi.” Joonghyuk said and he stood up.

“Bye, Joonghyuk-ssi.” Dokja softly said and Joonghyuk smiled to himself as he watched Dokja trying to fan himself due to the increased heat on his cheeks.

Joonghyuk was excited to say the least, the shining Dokja, a very own star on earth just said yes to him when he asked him out on a date. Joonghyuk can find himself having a small smile on his face as he walked.

Other people may dislike the idea of people around them being scared and having rumors about themselves but he didn’t mind those rumors because Dokja saw him in a different light.

And he didn’t mind to open himself up more just for Kim Dokja
