Braided

Summary:

Lucy’s plans for a relaxing morning on her day off get derailed…

In the best possible way.

Notes:

Braided moodboard

I don’t know what this is. I don’t write fluff. At least not unless it’s part of some bigger, angst-filled storyline. But here we are.

Chenford has broken me.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Lucy has always been a fan of waking up slowly.

She would laze around in bed for an hour, just coaxing herself to leave the warm cocoon of her blankets on the daily if she could. Unfortunately she also liked to set her alarm for the last possible moment that would still reliably allow her to get to work on time, so most mornings she didn’t have that luxury.

But on her days off…

Sue her if she liked to milk it.

Even more so when her cheek is pressed against a warm chest, Tim’s steady heartbeat like a soothing metronome, his spicy scent wrapped around her like a safety net.

Inhaling deeply, she melts further into him, absorbing his body heat. She wriggles until her legs tangle with his, then sighs in contentment, finding the perfect position.

Tim plays with her hair and an extra little pleasant buzz tingles under her skin. She’s always enjoyed the sensation, something he’s sure to have picked up on, so she relaxes into it, eager to be so mellowed out that she might even be able to fall back asleep.

Something is different this morning though. He’s not rubbing gentle circles into her scalp the way that he usually does. Every so often there’s a light tug on a lock and the ends of the strands tickle over the bare skin of her arm. It’s not unpleasant, but it does have her confused… to the point that her curiosity wins out.

“What are you doing?” She mumbles, turning her chin so that the words aren’t completely muffled.

He freezes. The silence stretches.

Lucy cracks an eyelid. “Tim?”

Heat creeps up into his cheeks as he stares back at her like a deer caught in the headlights. “I was… uhh—”

Now she’s really interested. Propping herself up on one elbow, she raises an eyebrow.

He flounders for a moment more, his blush flaring brighter before he finally admits, “I was trying to figure out how to braid.”

Now both of her eyebrows shoot up. “You were…” she prods, a hint of teasing already creeping into her tone.

“You make it look so easy,” he huffs out with an exasperated roll of his eyes. “But obviously it isn’t. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you up.”

Her eyes twinkle in amusement, but she’s no less puzzled than she was before. “But why were you trying to learn how to braid?”

His eyes dart down, fixing on where he’s fiddling with the edge of the sheet.

She nudges him lightly with her knee, stroking her hand over his abs as she tilts her head to kiss the underside of his jaw.

The arm that’s curled around her back tightens instinctively and he swallows. “I just… You have such gorgeous hair, and I love it when you braid it…” he starts out reluctantly, before stammering out the rest in a rush. “And I just thought that if we have a little girl someday she would probably look really cute in braids too because she’ll be at least as cute as you, and I thought I should start practicing now because I’m not getting any younger and obviously it’s going to take some work because that was a mess and I—”

Lucy can’t help the start of a laugh that bursts free to interrupt him, though she does manage to bite her lip to hold the rest back.

He stares at her, wide eyed, for several heartbeats as if he can’t believe the tsunami of words that just spilled out of his mouth.

But then he cracks up too.

Warmth blooms in the center of her chest. She keeps laughing until tears sting at her eyes and her cheeks start to ache.

When she finally catches her breath enough to form a coherent sentence, she shoots him a pointed look. “At least as cute as me?”

His nose crinkles as he pulls her further onto his chest, her hair falling in a curtain over her shoulder as his hands run up and down her sides. “Well, yeah. I mean, she’d have a pretty handsome dad too.”

Lucy snorts. She can’t help it. He tries to shoot her an indignant glare, but the wry twist to his lips ruins it.

She grins, her mind suddenly filled with images of a spunky little brunette with full cheeks and midnight blue eyes. The thought steals her breath for a moment, while at the same time a fire starts to build low in her belly.

Leaning her head against his shoulder, she traces nonsensical patterns across his skin while she meets his gaze. “You’ve thought about us starting a family?”

Sensing the shift in her tone, he sobers quickly. “Yeah,” he whispers hoarsely. He chews into the inside of his cheek for a moment before hastily adding. “I know we’re not there yet, Luce. I’m not trying to rush things. It’s just nice to dream, you know? But I’m not expecting—”

Stretching out to reach his lips, she silences him with a kiss. “I’ve thought about it too.”

His eyes widen slightly, his grip tightening possessively.

One corner of her lips draws up into a smirk. “About having your babies,” she elaborates, shifting until her knees bracket his hips and grinding teasingly against his rapidly hardening length. “And about how much fun we’re going to have once we start trying.”

Tim groans, his large hands encasing her waist as he helps to guide her movement.

She grins triumphantly, leaning forward until her elbows rest on the pillow on either side of his head. “What do you think?”

The hunger in his eyes tells her that she isn’t going to get an answer in words. Without warning, he flips them over, causing her to bounce on the mattress.

She starts to laugh again, but it gets cut off by a moan as his hand slides underneath her sleep shorts, the rough pads of his fingers rubbing tantalizingly along her slit. He sucks at her pulse point, then tugs at her earlobe with his lips until she’s arching into him with a gasp.

“I want you.”

His voice sends a deep shiver down her spine. He teases her entrance, his thumb making featherlight circles around her clit until she’s on fire and ready to scream. She tugs at his forearm, nails pressing into his skin in desperation.

He sits back on his heels with a devilish grin. Lucy lets out a whine in protest, but he isn’t gone for long, simply discarding his pajama pants before he’s back over top of her, nibbling along the skin over her collarbone.

She shudders, her cunt clenching down on nothing as she wedges her own arm in between them, struggling to tug her own shorts down and kick them free.

“You know, you’re ruining my plans for the day.” Her hand makes its way back up to the warm skin of his hip, following its curve until she can knead it into his muscular ass.

He quirks an eyebrow. “Is that so?” His hands ruck up the hem of her tank top as he adjusts her further up on the bed, cushioning her head on his pillow.

She twists, craning her neck up, searching for his lips. “Mmhmm,” she hums into a slow, sensual kiss. Tilting her chin back, she presses her forehead against his. “It’s my day off. Wanted to just be lazy.”

He lets out a chuckle that vibrates deep in her chest. “No one said you couldn’t be lazy.”

He plunges into her in one long stroke and she keens, pressing ever closer. For a moment she just savors the feeling as he rocks into her slowly, hitting her in all of the right places.

But then the mischievous glint returns to her eyes. Hooking her calves around his thighs, she rolls forcefully until he’s on his back and she’s sinking down onto him even further, a pleasant pull echoing behind her navel.

She arches her back with a throaty moan, her chest heaving. Then she places her hands on his chest and starts to ride him. “That’s nowhere near as fun.”

His hands find her hips, helping her rock on top of him. She looks down, seeing the undeniable love in his eyes as he watches her and she melts inside. Sometimes she still can’t believe that they allowed themselves to give into their feelings— That they ended up together.

But she has absolutely no regrets.

With a quiet purr, she leans forward, nuzzling into the side of his neck. “So good,” she whimpers, finding exactly the right angle to catch her clit on every stroke.

He hums in agreement, slipping one hand further up the inside of her top and palming her breast. He kisses the side of her head, pinching her nipple with his thumb. Then he nudges her up, slotting his tongue into her mouth and kissing her until her toes curl.

He thrusts up hard, and she falls apart, shaking in his arms until her muscles turn to jelly and she collapses on top of him.

Tim feathers kisses along her hairline, letting her catch her breath, before he flips them over once again and she lets out a high pitched keen.

His approach changes - their love making is no longer slow and sensual. Tim is chasing his release. He takes her knee in a firm grip and pushes it up toward her shoulder, their hips crashing together as he thrusts sharply in a quick rhythm.

His other hand weaves into her hair, snagging into the tangled mess that he’d made. There’s a brief, searing flare across her scalp, but it feels good, the sensation spreading like wildfire, zinging across her nerve endings.

Lucy brings up her arms, threading her own fingers into the short hairs at the back of his head as she pants, her eyes fluttering closed. Tim pulls her impossibly closer, massaging into her upper thigh. He knows exactly the right angle— Keeps hitting her g-spot over and over again and she winds so tight she thinks she’s going to explode.

Lucy.”

Her eyes snap open, locking with his in a moment that’s so intense that she swears the universe freezes, her heart stopping in her chest.

But then he’s spilling into her with a groan and she’s taken by another orgasm that has her soaring, her lips parted around a silent cry.

She clings to him for dear life, not letting go until she comes back down, sinking into the sheets completely spent.

Tim slips free, maneuvering onto his back but quickly pulling her in until she’s securely pressed into his side. He wraps the duvet around her tightly, brushing kisses along every inch of her that he has access to.

And she nuzzles in with a sigh. There isn’t anywhere in the world that she’s felt as safe as she does when she’s in Tim’s arms.

He starts fiddling with the ends of her hair again and she chuckles, pressing her face against his sweaty chest.

“Personally, I think that tops any lazy day I’ve ever had,” he rumbles and she feels heat rush to her cheeks. She rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling, utterly besotted with this man.

He tugs lightly at a lock of hair and she lifts her head, propping her chin up on his shoulder. “Were you serious about learning how to braid?” She asks playfully, running her hand up and down the length of his abdomen.

His brow furrows. “Yeah, why?”

Lucy bites at her lower lip, her eyes twinkling in the early morning light. “Just planning a trip to CVS so I can pick up the biggest bottle of detangler they’ve got—” she baits him breezily.

He pinches her side, and she instinctively curls around her middle, trying to shy away as he tickles her relentlessly while she laughs.

Eventually she manages to press a hand to the center of his chest, her ribs heaving as he watches her with an amused grin.

She settles back in, picking up his hand and slotting her fingers between his, tracing up and down their length.

He turns his head, his chin bumping lightly against her forehead. “Were you serious about trying for a baby?” He asks in a much quieter tone, sounding almost timid.

She takes her time to respond, still playing with his fingers as she bites her lower lip. If she’s being honest, it’s something she’s thought a lot about, especially considering how much everyone in their lives seems to have brought it up. So she already knows her answer. “I’d like to at least wait until I make P3.”

He stares at her. She swears she can hear his heart stutter in his chest. “Lucy - you’re eligible to be promoted to P3 in a few months.” He states it all very carefully, giving her ample opportunity to amend her statement.

She blushes, but then nods as she presses a kiss to his shoulder.

His whole body freezes, like his brain needs a second to reboot. But then he’s pulling her up on top of him once again, his hand softly cradling her head as he devours her lips in a world altering kiss.

Their morning ends up extending a lot longer than it should… well into the afternoon.

Neither one of them seems to notice. And if they did, they certainly wouldn’t care.

Little does Lucy know that Tim has been puzzling through adjusting his plans for the rest of the day in all of the quiet moments when they’d needed to take a break.

Planning a romantic dinner… A walk along her favorite section of the coast around sunset…

Because with all of the thoughts she’d sent buzzing around his head he’d come to a stunning realization— He might have to make use of the ring he’d hidden in his sock drawer a lot sooner than he’d thought.

Notes:

I know there’s a lot of discourse around the fandom about wanting to give Tim and Lucy time to just be a couple before they introduce kids into the mix, and I completely agree.

But I also recognize that Tim is already in his 40s and that Lucy acknowledges that and if they want to have 2-3 kids she might want to get started on having a family sooner rather than later.

So I guess what I’m saying is I’m fine with it whichever way the narrative goes. And this is just a fluff piece so no need to read too much into it.

Like I said at the beginning, I really don’t write fluff, so let me know what you thought! Comments and kudos are appreciated more than you know! 💙
