Work Text:
"Just a typical, newlywed's tiff, colonel." René quickly tried to not make the colonel think too much of the actions of his mother-in-law while putting back the champagne from the glasses into the bottle "In a few months, they will forget all about it." That old bat really made him open up a whole bottle for just a picture only to refuse taking it in the end!
"I think we'll have to look elsewhere for our perfect honeymoon couple, Gruber." Colonel Strohm commented slighly annoyed.
Gruber eyes glimmed with an idea "I could have a picture taken with René." he holds René by one of his arms dragging him closer to himself "Just for my album."
'Oh 'eck, I don't want to take a picture with Lieutenant Gruber, that would be embarrassing...' he ponders while being held by the young german man 'I do have to admit, though, he's really been a great help whenever I find myself in matters of life or death, which are more than any owner of a cafe should have.'
He tries to make a quick excuse to not take the picture "I am not smart enough."
René then notices the look of happiness in Gruber's face 'That picture would certainly mean a whole lot to him, yes he fancies me but could it really be that bad if I let him have just one picture? He is my friend after all, I could later say it's my payment for everything he has ever done to me as a friend then of course say no bargain for anything else, last thing I need is making Gruber think this is an encouragement for any more invitations for his Chateau. I could also hide my face but that would be very inconsiderate of me considering everything he's done, and what if he notices it and questions me about it? This is Gruber after all, I hardly think he would in any way get mad at me for any reason of such or even think ill of me but he might assume I accidently put the serving tray in my face and ask if it was possible for us to take another pictu-'
"Watch the birdie." Alfonse finally took the picture with a bright white flash.
Just in time, René forces out a smile.
"Oh, René!" Gruber hugs him "Thank you so much, that picture will be forever treasured by me." of all things he's glad that in this ocassion the Lieutenant isn't doing it while crying for being the one who's supposed to give orders to shoot him.
Arkwardly, René taps his back "You're welcome, Lieutenant."
