Jack and Daniel finally found the way how to end up their neverending quarrels.

Work Text:

Sam was sure it had to be something bad when both of them were late. She was sitting nervously at the table, giving the head of the council a weak smiles for almost fifteen minutes what they were waiting for Jack and Daniel to finally appear and join them. Teal'c was giving Sam meaningful glares and she expected him to stand up and go to look for them in any second. She knew that this was very important and Daniel as their linguist and diplomatic representative was supposed to be sitting here as the first one. But that didn't happen and this whole situation couldn't be more awkward until Sam heard the familiar voices behind the closed door. And that was the right time for panic.

"I just can't believe how freaking stubborn you can be!" Daniel's voice was heard as first. Sam just tiredly closed her eyes as the so known scenario repeated. These fights were starting to be unbearable for the whole team.

"Please, don't act surprise, you keep telling me this for ages now." Sam could see Jack's annoyed face even through the closed door.

"Maybe for once you could listen to me, Jack. That's all I want!" Daniel continued.

"Maybe for once you could respect the chain of command and the meaning of 'no'." Jack snapped back, it was obvious that this fight lasted for some time now. If Sam didn't know Teal'c she would say he was about to roll his eyes.

"I'm not milita-" Daniel rising octave was stopped by Jack's commanding voice. "Don't you even dare to start with this one!" The Colonel growled. There was a minute of silence and Sam was dreaded the worst. "Now, go inside and listen to my orders for once, dammit!"

The heavy doors opened and the guys stepped inside. That was the minute they both realised that the other side probably heard them, too. The whole council sitting around the table raised their glares towards them, probably curious who were the idiots coming late and arguing behind the door. The head of the council admired the team and Jack as their leader, but Sam wouldn't be surprised if he changed his mind after this childish quarrel.

The Colonel forced a smile and said, "Hey, sorry for being late. We had to discuss some...stuff." He made a weird circle with his hand and Sam hoped that the floor beneath them opens and they fall somewhere deep and she would never have to face these people ever again.

The head of the council seemed to be a fair man and tried to make this situation more bearable, "Colonel, we're glad you finally join us. Come and have a drink with us." He offered politely and Jack had never been more glad for a drink on a mission before than today. They took their seats and the situation became less tensed. Sam was watching Daniel, who took a seat in front of her, probably refusing to sit beside Jack. His posture was closed, he looked like a pouting child. He always looked like this after their fight, but tonight was too important for him to be pissed on Jack. He grabbed the offered glass and took one long draught from it. The picture of their perfect team was falling apart quickly.

Sam was expecting them to be watching them closely, it was natural and they were doing much the same. What she wasn't expecting was the fact that they notice every little detail about her teammates. She realised the truth when the head council's wife came to Sam and gently pointed out Daniel's third glass. She told her to tell him to slow down a bit as their alcoholic beverages were stronger as they were probably used. Sam just embarrassedly nodded and promised her she will take care about that. They couldn't afford drunken Daniel tonight.

What they couldn't afford was one thing and what really happened was the second. Not only Daniel got drunk (what wasn't exactly against regulations, but was not part of the protocol either), but thanks to the alcohol courage he had another fight with Jack again and it was not behind the close door now.

"Sir! Daniel!" Even Sam had to snap at them at some point, which she found totally out of hand, but it no longer mattered. After what Colonel disappeared to his own room and drunked Daniel was taken away by Sam, Teal'c was left behind to clear the mess. Sam really hoped for his calm behaviour to save them all. Even though, she had no idea what are they going to debrief to General after this night.

However, Sam was also drinking the same liquid as Daniel what it did to him was unbelievable. He drank more of that, but he seemed totally destroyed, but it was maybe a side effect of their fight with Jack. She was trying to take him to his room, but that felt like an impossible task.

It didn't happen very often, but Sam lost her nerves that night.

"Carter! What are you doing in my room!" The Colonel jumped out of the bed, watching her standing in the middle of his room widely and confusedly.

"I have enough, sir." She looked incredibly tired.

Jack's confusion couldn't be measured right now, "What?" He asked bewildered.

She turned and when she noticed that no one was standing behind her, she left the room for a second and brought protesting, obviously drunk Daniel with her the second time.

"Saaam. No, please. I don't want to!" He kept repeating his mantra. Jack was watching them both with terrified expression on his face.

"Now." Sam said strictly, "He is your problem, sir." She turned on her heel and left the room as quickly as she entered, leaving Daniel standing in the middle of the colonel's room by himself.

"What?! Carter!" Jack shouted after her, but it didn't help. He take a look at now giggling Daniel. This was going to be a long night.

"Daniel, why are you still in your uniform and they the heck you aren't sleeping?" He asked younger man with raised eyebrows.

"Sam wanted to take it off of me," he started slowly, "but I didn't let her." He let out a soft laugh, while stating this fact proudly in front of Jack. "And some time later she got mad at me." This fact he stated a little more sadly.

"Fine, Daniel. I don't have time for this shit. Go to your room." Jack ordered, but what was drunken Daniel against the normal one, and even the sober Daniel had problems with listening his orders. It didn't surprise, probably anybody, that Daniel didn't move an inch until he noticed that Jack's room has a balcony.

"That's great, I don't have one!" He made his way towards it.

"What? No! No, Daniel!" Jack grabbed his wrists quickly, turning him back so he was watching his face again. "Under no circumstances you're allowed to go there." He threatened, glad that Daniel's room didn't have one.

"Just a quick look, Jack. Please." He literally whined. He hated when Jack was like this, so parental suddenly.

"Jesus Christ, Daniel. Stop that." Jack said, still holding his wrists. He didn't know what was he supposed to do with this kid. Damn it, Carter. But, letting him sleep on his own wasn't probably a good idea, and he couldn't imagine how would he persuade their little archeologist to stay in that room. So, he went to lock his door, still holding Daniel's hands and closed the balcony too, sadly that it couldn't be locked as well. Daniel kept whining all the time.

"You will sleep here, Dannyboy." Jack informed, and shoved him gently to the bed.

"No!" Daniel, of course, protested and Jack made a mental note to never let Daniel have a drink on another planets.

"I'm not asking."

"You are never asking me anything. You don't give a shit about my opinion." Daniel snapped angrily, trying to get away from the bed. Jack quickly caught his shoulders and pinned him back to the bed, placing one of his thigh between Daniel's leg.

"Daniel, you know that's not true! I'm always listening to you. But, you're sometimes too quick with your decisions and don't care about the consequences." He was really trying not to start yelling at him. "I'm just trying to protect you. Bring you home safe and in one peace. You can't imagine how difficult it became." Jack was really glad he locked the door before, because if someone stepped into his room right now and saw them like this, Jack wouldn't exactly know what to say to make it seem less weird. Daniel was still trembling under his hands, trying to escape for life.

"Bullshit!" Daniel cut him off. He didn't believe him a word. Jack's behaviour on last missions wasn't showing the way how he wanted to protect him. And he didn't see it even now, as he was literally fighting with him on his bed. "Let me go!" He growled at the older man, but he was trapped underneath Jack's body. His gained muscles didn't help him much with Jack's technique.

"Where you wanna go? Even Carter had enough of you!" Jack tried to make his body still for at least few seconds.

"My own room!" Daniel wasn't giving up, scowling at his team leader.

"You had your chance. You'll stay here tonight." Jack growled back. This was really getting on his nerves. They were fighting whole day, he was exhausted, but Daniel didn't seem to stop.

"You can't do this!" Daniel was trying with all his remaining strength to shake Jack off of his body. Jack overbalanced himself in attempt to remain Daniel beneath him and they almost rolled from the bed, when Jack stabilized them in the last second. They were both breathing heavily from the wrestling as from the shock that they almost fell on the ground, when Jack totally without thinking bend down and caught Daniel's lips with his own. Daniel had probably never become sober as quickly as that night. When Jack pulled back, clearly shocked as much as Daniel, he wasn't able to make an explanation, but at least Daniel became quiet. They were looking at each other in total silence and Daniel's terrified expression won't be washed away that easily.

Jack was scared to make a move. This went quite further than he had expected, than he had ever expected. He was still pinning Daniel's body with his own and it was probably the right time to move away and finally say something. However, when he tried to move away his biceps was caught by Daniel's hand, who pulled him closer and kissed him again. When they stopped, Daniel was definitely searching for something to be found in Jack's eyes. Jack really wanted to break the silence, even though he realised that when they start to talk, it will be over for good. This all was so wrong and both of them knew that.

"O'Neill?" Teal'c's calm voice sounded from behind the door, after few soft knocks.

Jack literally jumped out of the bed he was sharing in the weirdest possible position with his youngest teammate and thank to his tendencies to predict danger or in this situation an unwanted interference that he locked that damn door. He turned to Daniel, who was now sitting on his bed, praying that he will come with solution what to say to their alien friend.

But Daniel only shrugged his shoulders without any verbal response. Now, he was at his quietest, great. Jack slowly moved to open his door and greeted Teal'c with a casual smile.

"Hey, T." He said.

Teal'c's posture was calm and relaxed, "Are you well, O'Neill? I heard noises from you room." He said in his deep voice.

"Ah, that. We're alright, no need to worry." He said nervously. Teal'c was very good at reading people and he raised his eyebrows suspiciously.

"We?" He asked.

And Jack winced silently. "Oh, hey Teal'c." Daniel popped his head out from behind the door, smiling at him. "I wasn't feeling well, so Jack offered me to stay with him. Sam knows." He added the last sentence as it was the most needed permission he could get.

Teal'c's unimpressed glare confirmed them how weird they were acting, but hoped strongly that he won't ask further questions. Thankfully, he only bowed his head said that he's glad that they're alright and left.

Jack closed the door and turned to Daniel, "Sam knows? Why would you say that?" He asked bewildered.

"I don't know what I was saying. I just saw your scared face and came here as your backup." He said with all his innocence he could manage.

"I was not scared." Jack muttered, blushing.

Daniel scoffed, "You should see yourself, Jack." He took a better look at his friend and asked, "Why did you do that?" He tilted his head on one side as he was asking. Jack really didn't want to meet his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Daniel. I don't know. I wasn't thinking."

"What a weak excuse." Daniel commented with a smile, when Jack finally raised his glare and met his eyes. "You kissed me back." He said kind of accusingly. "What's your excuse?" He asked softly.

Daniel let out a little laught, "Ah, I've always wanted to do it, honestly." He admitted.

Jack laughed too, "Oh, come on Daniel, you're still drunk." He ruffled his hair playfully.

"Want to find out?" Daniel raised his brow with the offer.

"Maybe I should lock that door, again?" He suggested with a lazy smile and Daniel nodded.

They moved towards the bed. They shared a kiss again while laying down. "Uhm, I'm sorry, Jack.. for today." He stated lamely.

"Well, what about this being the peace offer?" Jack asked, admitting his part of the blame and kissing him back.

"Jack?"

"Daniel?"

"Maybe we should fight more often."

"I don't think it's possible."
