Chapter Text
It was weird how letters on a small paper can change your whole life, just little ink on white telling you that your family has died, no. Had been killed by your beloved wife who had begged you to stay the last time you left, but you couldnt, because the sea was calling you and you always answered.
Eyk stared at the telegram he had received, he didnt know what to do or feel. What does one do in this situation? Nothing will change the out come, there is nothing he can do to undo the situation.
He sits down by his desk, searches the drawer and takes a flask out. His hands shake as he undos the cork on the bottle. He takes a hefty gulp of the whiskey and slams the bottle to the table. His beautiful daughters, Nina, the oldest on the brink of adulthood, so close to being her own person in the world. Frida the middle child, she had always wanted to follow his foot steps and see the sea, it made her mother worry, she didnt want to lose another person to the sea. Then there was the youngest Clara, not yet seven. She always hid behind her mothers skirt hem when he visited, he was a mix of stranger and familiarity to her. Something always shifting.
Now they were no more. Their futures were in the ashes of the house Eyk had bought for them. All the memories, all the photos; everything was succumbed to the flames.
He takes another moutful of the whiskey, it doesnt burn as much as the first one as he gulps it down.
