Chapter Text
Get a grip,Twilight.
Loid was fuming, jaw clenched tight when his hands balled into fists. In order to keep up their appearance, Loid took Yor out for a weekly date. At least that’s what he told himself. It certainly wasn’t because he was catching feelings for the woman he called his “wife”. No, it was simply to maintain their image to preserve world peace. Loid Forger — or, well, Twilight — had been a spy for over a decade. His fate constantly lied within his own grasp. But ever since starting Operation Strix, not only his fate, but the fate of world peace lies within the hands of a supposed six year old.
He shook his head, if he thought about it too much he’d make himself sick. “Something wrong, Loid?” Yor’s hand touched his shoulder softly, even the smallest of contact snapped him back to reality. His hands loosened just a bit, head turning to face her. “Oh it’s nothing, just got lost in thought.” They were waiting for the train to take them downtown. Loid had made reservations at a cozy, family owned restaurant.
“You seem tense…if you’d rather stay home I don’t mind.” They were already dressed, Anya already had a babysitter. It wasn’t that Loid didn’t want to go out, he was getting agitated by the two men standing no less than ten feet away from them. The two men, to their credit, were being subtle. But nothing was ever subtle when it came to the observation eyes and ears of a spy. “ She’s a real catch, don’t you think? ” Loid felt his eye twitch slightly, head turning back to face forward.
“No, I promised you a date and I plan on keeping that promise.” He smiled despite the irritation creeping up his spine. “ She sure is, what the hell is she doing with a man like that? ” Loid’s eyes shifted over, they were whispering to one another like school kids trying to share secrets. “ I mean look at her body… ” Loid swallowed thickly, the two men were slowly but surely getting on his nerves. His eyes shifted back to Yor, a small smile on her face as she looked around.
She looked beautiful, ready for summer in her red low cut sundress. Her silky hair was tied neatly into two braids. Blush dusted her cheeks and she had put on a shade of lipstick that matched her dress. All of it was finished off with a pair of black heels, silver earrings and a black purse slung over her shoulder. “ Look at her boobs, they’re fucking huge. ” Loid’s jaw clenched again, this time he turned his head to look at the two men.
His eyes locked with one of them, yet they held no fear nor remorse. Loid looked away a moment later, it wasn’t worth the fight. Not yet at least. “Do you think the train is delayed?” Yor stepped forward a bit, hoping to get a better look down the tracks. Loid flinched as she left his side, he was shielding some of her with his own body and now she was fully exposed. A whistle floated on the breeze a moment later, this time Loid audibly groaned.
“It’s still early, it should be here in five minutes.” He stepped forward, shielding her again. “ Did you see a ring on her finger?” Loid froze, listening carefully as they continued to whisper. “ I didn’t, so he must be taking her on a first date or something.” Loid’s eyes trailed to Yor’s barren finger, he had yet to get her an official ring. He rolled his eyes, mentally scolding himself for forgetting such a key thing. He was rather shocked that no one at Eden academy questioned it yet.
“ You think she’d look good in bed.” Loid’s mouth opened, no words came out but he felt his face turning hot with anger. “Loid?” Yor touched his shoulder again, noticing the blush spread all the way to his ears. Endure it, Yor can’t hear them. His fist was twitching, he could certainly dispose of them without raising a single suspicion. Even on a slightly crowded train platform. “Yes?” His voice was strained. “You’re red…are you not feeling well? We really don’t have to go out…”
“I’m feeling fine, just a little warm…” he turned to look at both men now, Yor’s eyes following his gaze. “You hear them talking about me, don’t you?” Loid’s head snapped back towards Yor, eyes freakishly wide. “Y-you can hear them?” Yor’s cheeks turned a shade of pink, “They aren’t exactly trying to hide it. Don’t worry about them, our train is here anyways.” She smiled softly, her hand retracting from his shoulder. He nodded, eyes shooting another glare at both men. Once again, neither seemed phased.
Loid allowed Yor on the train first. He stopped for only a moment to pull his pistol out subtly, eyes glaring at both men before he slid it back into the waistband of his pants. Finally, they took the hint. “Loid?” Yor tilted her head, waiting for him to join her on the bench. “Sorry, coming.” He didn’t move until both men were off the platform and out of sight. Albeit it didn’t take them that long once they saw his pistol. “Did you scare them off?” There was a sparkle in her eyes, as if no one had ever stood up for her before.
“I did.” Loid sighed with relief as he took his seat beside her. “Thank you, Loid.” There was a blush creeping up her cheeks, he watched her fidget a bit with her purse. “Of course.” The smile on his face was genuine, it surprised him just a bit. Luckily for the Forgers, the train ride went on without incident, “So, it’s a small family owned restaurant?” Yor blushed as Loid offered her his hand to step off the platform.
“It is, I heard from some of my coworkers that the food is amazing.” Yor nodded, hands folding together neatly in front of her once he let go. “Do you think we can find a place to get sweets after?” She chewed on her inner cheek, hoping Loid wouldn’t find her childish for such a request. “Of course, though I also heard they make wonderful desserts here.” A soft “ oh” left her lips, eyes sparkling once more as they made their way down the sidewalk.
“Damn…” maybe Loid was focusing too much on the world around him, or maybe it was something in the air. Yet again, he found himself facing another creep. He chose to take the peaceful route once more. “The restaurant is only a block away, you should have brought a sweater.” Yor looked at him in confusion, a yelp leaving her lips a moment later as Loid slung an arm around her shoulder. “L-loid?!” She turned a deep shade of red as he pulled her to his side. Loid on the other hand was shooting a glare at the man over Yor’s head.
“Got a problem with me, Buddy?” Buddy? Loid felt a vein begin to throb in his forehead. “I do actually, I’d appreciate it if you kept your eyes off my wife”. Yor didn’t miss the way Loid’s arm tightened around her slightly, it sent her heart into a frenzy. “I don’t see no ring.” Oh come the fuck on. “Didn’t match her outfit, gold and silver don’t typically mix.” Make sure you get her a gold ring you idiot. The man merely raised an eyebrow, shrugging when he realized Yor wasn’t going to do anything. “Let’s go.” Yor whispered softly, the situation had a smile creeping up her lips for some reason.
“Do you find this funny?” Loid’s voice was soft, arm still slung around her as they walked. “It’s cute that you’re being protective.” Cute? Did she just call me cute? He cleared his throat, a shaky sigh leaving his lips as he felt his ears turn red. “Well, it won’t be very cute if I have to kick somebody’s ass.” Yor laughed regardless, “I think I’d still find it cute, Loid.” She had a similar rosy blush covering her own cheeks. “Oh look, we’re here.” It came out a little more deadpan that he intended
“Oh~ it’s so cute!”
Right before Loid could reach for the door, the host opened it. “Welcome! Do you have reservations?” Loid nodded, allowing Yor in first before passing the younger man. “Forger, for two.” The host nodded, waving to a young girl who was standing behind the small desk. “Forgers! Right this way.” A little gasp of excitement left Yor as they made their way through the small but cozy restaurant. “Someone will be with you shortly!” They both said thank you before taking a seat across from the other.
“This place is so cute…” Yor’s eyes seemed to flow under the candle light, eyes taking in the flowers and fairy lights strung about the ceiling. “It’s a different pace than what we’ve become used to, I’m trusting my coworkers for this one.” The truth is, no coworker had recommended it. Loid stumbled across it one day and for some reason it reminded him of Yor. Though at this point, he had convinced himself of his own lie. Definitely because of a coworker, not because the atmosphere reminded you of her.
“There are so many options!” Yor scanned each one with a look of awe on her face. There was something so sweet about her genuine excitement, for a moment Loid didn’t even realize he had spaced out while staring at her. “Welcome! I’ll be your server tonight. Are you interested in any drinks?” Loid blinked, watching Yor scan the menu for a moment. “I’ll have a glass of water and…” Loid felt a smile tug at his lips “and a cup of your finest red wine.” The waiter, a man that seemed to be around Yor’s age, smiled. “Anything for the beautiful lady. And for you sir?”
“I’ll do the same.” Yor gasped, “You’re going to have a drink?” The waiter hesitated from leaving the table for a moment. “I am. We’re on a date after all, why not.” Loid smiled at the waiter, not missing the way he seemed slightly annoyed. Don’t tell me I have to deal with another one. “I’ll get those right away for the two of you.” He was talking more to Yor then too Loid. What the hell was with the switch up? Loid’s eyes trailed the menu, but inevitably ended up on Yor. She truly is beautiful, though I don’t see why us being on a date seems to have attracted all the weirdos…
“ What do you plan on getting?” Yor peeked up from her menu after sensing Loid’s eyes lingering on her. He’s been staring an awful lot. Though we’ve encountered some pretty odd men tonight…I wonder if he’s upset about that. “Honestly, there are a handful of options I’m stuck between.” The two spent a few minutes debating on what to get, in the end they settled on two dishes they’d split. “Alright, here are your drinks…are you ready to place an order for your food?” He’s only addressing Yor again. Loid suppressed his groan of annoyance, forcing a smile onto his face. “We are.”
“I was speaking to the lovely lady.” Loid’s fake smile never faltered, “Well you see, I know my wife. She gets nervous ordering.” For the mission, you know that for the mission. “I-it’s okay Loid…we’ll have…uhm…” she faltered, eyes scanning the menu. She’s panicking. “We’ll have…” Loid interjected, requesting the dishes they both agreed on. The waiter wrote both items down, smiling at Yor. “My apologies madam. Is there anything I can do to make up for my assumption?” Oh give me a fucking break. Loid let his face smile disappear.
“O-oh! No, it's okay.” There was a faint blush on her cheeks as she looked at him. He’s going to get the wrong idea… Loid counted down the seconds until the waiter realized. Sure enough a blush spread across his own face. Someone must be testing me. Why does this bother me? Loid blinked, surprised at his realization. “I-I’ll be back shortly with your meal.” He scurried off, leaving both Forgers a bit stunned. Albeit for different reasons. “Well… he seems a bit rude. He didn’t even acknowledge you other than to tell you off, Loid.”
So she wasn’t oblivious to it.
“It’s fine, don’t let him ruin our date.” Why are you so concerned about this? Loid shook his head slightly, lifting his wine glass and sticking out towards Yor. “Cheers?” Yor’s eyes lit up, bouncing slightly in her chair as she reached for her own glass. Loid’s eyes glanced down, watching her breasts jiggle slightly. Oh get a grip. He hoped she didn’t notice the heat rushing to his face. “To a peaceful night.” The soft laughter that left her lips was like music to his ears. “To a peaceful night.” Their glasses clink softly, Yor nearly down half of it. “Oh~ that’s good!”
Her breasts jiggled again as she brought the cup back to her lips. Have they always been that large? Wait… what the hell are you thinking about, Twilight? Loid brought the glass up to his lips again, tilting his back to take the rest in one go. Why are you ogling at her breasts? What are you, some pervert…have they really always moved like that though? “I’d love a second glass, but you know I’m a lightweight. I’d like to remember tonight.” She smiled, eyes seeming to glitter as she stared at him. She’s always been that beautiful, Twilight. So why are you acting like you’ve just realized?
Loid returned the smile, “We can always ask for a bottle of it and take it home.” It seemed the most logical in his mind, though he wasn’t quite sure how much it would cost him. “I know of a quiet little park we can go to after dinner.” Yor’s cheeks were still rosy. “That sounds nice, fresh air always feels good after a meal.” Yor nodded, changing her wine glass for her water. “I must say, it feels like we don’t have much to talk about. We spend so much time together after all.” Loid blinked, there really wasn’t much to share that wouldn't give him away. Though he could certainly ask Yor some questions, it wouldn't be as if he didn’t already know the answers.
In the end, it was likely the woman had her own secrets.
“Alright, here we go.” Both froze, how was it possible for the food to even be ready? “I wanted to apologize again for the way I was acting earlier. I asked kindly that they put your food on priority.” You can do that? Loid’s eyes glanced around the restaurant, there were a handful of couples and families enjoying their night as well. I assume we can trust the food, I don't think anyone…especially this waiter…would have a reason to try and poison us.
“Oh! Thank you so much…really you didn’t have to do all of that.” She looked up at him, hands pressing together and flashing him a grin that made even Loid’s heart flutter. “But thank you, we really appreciate it.” The man seemed to shake slightly as he started to speak. “W-why of c-course! Let me k-know if you n-need anything else!” He couldn’t get away fast enough, Loid watched his blush creep all the way down his neck and up his ears. Bastard… Loid quickly changed his expression when he realized he was scowling.
You’re getting sloppy, Twilight. Why does it bother you that a man is flirting with your fake wife? It’s not as if you harbor any romantic feelings for her. A man only feels like this if he’s jeal…oh. Oh no.
“ It looks delicious!” Loid was unaware that Yor had gone through the same thought process. Luckily for both, they were trained to recognize signs of poison in their food. Naturally, it was just a normal waiter with a crush. The food was harmless. “It does.” Loid silently prayed it wouldn’t destroy his stomach. A few minutes passed in comfortable silence, both Forgers were too busy eating. Finally, Loid broke the silence. “Well, this was certainly worth the aggravation of getting here.” The food was better than he could have hoped. “It is…though I didn’t find the trip here all that aggravating.” There was a smug grin creeping up Yor’s cheeks.
“Having to fight three men because they couldn’t keep to themselves to get here qualifies as aggravating in my book.” Loid huffed thought, not quite understanding why Yor was giggling now. “What? You think it’s funny?” Loid sounded absolutely exasperated. “I do! You got so worked up about it! I usually just ignore them.” Yor went for another bite, eyes widening as Loid pulled the plate away from her. “You usually just ignore them? Does this happen often?” She blinked, surprised that his tone had turned so serious. “Ah…well I tune a lot of it out, I can’t say I really recall much. So I guess it happens fairly often? None of them have ever acted upon their words, though if they did I can handle myself.”
Loid still didn’t seem satisfied by that answer. I’ll kill them. “I’m going to start walking you to and from work then.” Yor’s face turned bright red, engulfing her whole face. “T-that’s a bit overkill!” He could have sworn he saw steam shooting out of her ears. “I’m going to take you out tomorrow to pick out a proper wedding ring.” He hoped that would snap her back to reality a bit, instead she just turned a deeper shade of red. “Okay! E-enough!” She made an X with her arms, eyes squeezing shut. “You’ll send me to an early grave if you keep playing with my heart like that!” Her lips were quivering, for a moment Loid struggled to tell if she was actually hurt or just playing around.
“Yor…I…” how the hell did I manage to hurt her feelings?! Yor waved him off, laughing softly at her own sensitivity. “I’m sorry, I’m being a little ridiculous. I’m foolish enough to let myself pretend this is real from time to time. Sometimes I get a bit hurt by my own imagination. It’s just hard to know this will end one day and my life will return to the way it had before. I’m not ready to feel that emptiness again. You just…Loid you just make it so hard for me sometimes…in the best way though.” She wiped a tear from her cheek, leaving Loid speechless. “You just… you treat me so well, Loid. I’ve never felt so needed and so loved. But it’s fake… isn’t it? It’s all so Anya can do well at Eden. If it meant that little girl could keep smiling, I’d do this one hundred times over.”
Loid was still too stunned to speak, so Yor continued pouring her heart out to him. “I’ve never…been in a relationship before. I never had the time. I was always so focused on making sure my little brother had everything he could ever want. Even if that meant sacrificing everything.” Even if that meant taking countless lives. “Loid… you give me more than I deserve. I know this is all for show, it’s all to keep our appearance well perceived. But thank you, regardless, for everything.” Loid blinked, say something, anything! He opened his mouth, throat feeling dry. “Yor…I…” I love you.
He grabbed his water glass, downing half of it. “Yor, everything I’ve done for you is because I genuinely care for you.” You coward. “I couldn’t have met a better woman to care for my child. You took on the role of Anya’s “mama” so quickly. She cares for you just as much as you care for her. I…I wouldn’t mind you staying in our lives…for a long…long time.” Oh just spit it out, Twilight! When have you ever struggled this hard to speak?!
“ I…I think I’m in love with you, Yor.”
