it's me boy -

Summary:

- i'm the ps5 speaking to you inside your brain.

You know how this goes by now. Anyways, want to have a second chance? It's $49.99 a month, and you get a 30 day free trial alongside that!*

*Terms and Conditions apply. We are not responsible if you start to care more about this make believe stuff then the real world. I don't care either way.

Notes:

Yes, the title is from here and I'm not ashamed of it.

Anyways I don't know what this is but we can either say it's a dig against Adobe or something. I don't know. Late Stage Capitalism is bad yo.

Enjoy whatever this is. I'm going to bed.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The text-based adventure game is not a format that allows for deviation, and seldom allows for free will. There’s only one ending for all this, even in something like a Twisted Wonderland, or whatever this world is meant to be called. I wouldn’t know, I just work here as a point of contact for you whenever you breach terms and conditions or whatever. I got to get food on the table somehow.

OR: Your endings are decided in binary, and the world does not like you, interloper. But business is business, I’m afraid.

---

Yuu is the avatar in which your actions are realised. You – yes, you – are the puppet master, but your choices are binary and barely affect this tale at large. You’re simply there to ensure that the plot goes where it is supposed to go – no deviations, no detours. This is a decision you have made and this is a decision you have agreed to. The unspoken contract demands this of you, you know. This is simply just business.

Yuu is technically dead you know – we’ve just recycled the body for you, specifically. If you’re unsatisfied with the product, then please contact customer support and we’ll never follow up on your request.

Is this ethical? Of course not. But we’re not going to discuss that here, it’s not my decision after all.

---

You see, the higher-ups don’t like deviations. Says it changes the story too much. So sorry player, but your subscription of using Yuu’s body for the chance to see what Twisted Wonderland is and how to save it has been cancelled. If you wish to try again, please re-purchase the subscription, $49.99 a month, and you can try again, and this time you comply with the Terms and Conditions.

What happens to Yuu’s body? Ah, well, we’ll find another customer to inhabit it. There’s always someone willing to spend the money. People are always desperate for second chances. That’s just how it is.

So anyways, your subscription is cancelled. There are no refunds. You can sign up again if you want, but honestly, why would you?

---

Look Yuu, your free will is an illusion, and the voices speaking to you inside your brain are always to be trusted. Those boys aren’t your friends, and neither am I. This is simply just business.

The voices are as real as much as you are not. There’s nothing else to it. If you want to complain, then forward it to HR or someone who cares, at the very least.

You’ll get no reply, because there’s no one left in HR, and the higher ups don’t care enough to hire someone else to fill up the empty position. As for the people who care? Yeah, there’s no one left there either. The higher ups thought they had too many morals to work here.

---

You are as real as these boys are not, dear customer. If your complaint is that the pre-written story gives them too much trauma and not enough recovery, then we’re sorry but these boys aren’t real. Not to you, and not to us. You can send as many complaints as you want to customer support, but no one is ever going to follow up on those requests.

And if your complaint is that this story resolves itself far too quickly, that you want more interactions with these adolescent youths, may I remind you that they are not your friends, and they are not your siblings. They don’t exist here, and we’ll have to terminate your subscription for that opinion.

You violated terms and conditions. We told you to not get too attached to them. This is your own fault.

Apply again if you want, because to the higher ups, money is money, and your free will is an illusion.

---

Yuu, Ace and Deuce are not real to us.

Stop asking if they can save you.

---

It’s me, the voice inside speaking to you from inside your brain. Leave those kids, you don’t need them. Didn’t you know that your trial period has ended, or were you not paying attention?

Listen to me, your free will is an illusion. Your free 30 day trial has ended. If you want to continue to use this body to talk to these kids, then start paying the monthly rate, or we’re terminating this agreement, and you can go back to the life you have been ignoring in favour of this one.

“Am I like Azul?” you ask and no I’m not like that boy you talk about. The merman right? The half octopus boy with the inferiority complex and the eye for business opportunities and deals made under the table. Yeah, I’m nothing like him.

For one, I’m worse. For another, he’s never had to answer to the higher ups.

---

If I’m honest, that body isn’t going to last forever Yuu. Can’t you see the blot and ink coming off it? This business venture was doomed from the beginning, but you know the higher ups. If they see an opportunity, they’re going to take it no matter what. But we’ve overworked it, and the higher ups are already thinking of cutting the funding for this project. They don’t care, really. Just another way of making money lost, that’s all. They told me to tell you that we’re letting you go and any bonuses you would have received this month are being taken back by the company. Including your insurance.

In short, we’re firing you. Any health insurance you had with us is also gone. Here’s your two weeks’ notice, go collect your stuff and get going. I would say I’m sorry, but this industry killed off any sympathy for you years ago.

You’re dead either way, no matter if you’re working for this company or not.

---

You want to know when the next story update comes out? You want to know why you couldn’t even log in? You have got to be kidding me. Didn’t we tell you? It’s an email we sent you, or have you been ignoring the real world for so long that things like emails and phone calls and the power bill no longer have any meaning to you anymore, and the only thing that matters is your make-believe relationships with some boys in another world you made using a dead kid’s body?

Well since you don’t read your emails, fine: the bosses decided that the project isn’t making money, and because Yuu’s body broke down like three weeks ago, they pulled the plug on the project two weeks ago. The servers been offline you idiot, and you just kept trying to log into the stupid little thing like it owed you something.

Well there you go. So stop sending customer support all those emails about how you’ve been locked out of the system. You aren’t all that special, customer.

Oh, your money? You’re not getting a refund. You’ve breached the terms and conditions so many times, it’s you that keeps coming back for more.

Let’s face it, you were the voice in some dead kid’s brain. You aren’t any better then the rest of us.

Notes:

If you have a complaint, bring it up with customer support. They aren't going to answer you, but the illusion that the company cares about you is nice I guess.

Here's something new: Just go to my carrd because linking three separate websites is a pain.
