Chapter Text
The air was stiff and still, no birds singing as the heat of the day faded with the afternoon sun. Tommy stood there, eyes wide and mouth hanging open as he stared at his friend in disbelief.
“W-what… b-but Tubbo…” he whispered, but Tubbo cut him off.
“Sorry, Tommy, but you’ve been exiled from L’Manburg.”
There were yells of protest and anger around him, but it all sounded distant. Tommy could only stare at Tubbo, stunned. Everything went silent before Tubbo spoke again.
“Pack your things… and go.”
That was the last thing he said before turning and walking away. Tommy looked up, only to see a taller man standing there a porcelain mask strapped to his head, a green hoodie draped over him. The mocking smile painted on the mask stared directly at Tommy.
“Like I said, Tommy,” the tall man spoke, “you fucked up.”
He turned to leave but paused.
“If you’re not gone by the time the moon is high,” he said, turning his head so the shadow from the looming wall hid half his mask, “I will kill you.”
Then he walked away.
It didn’t take Tommy long to gather his belongings. But when he opened the door to leave his house, someone was already standing there waiting for him. He froze as he recognized the same porcelain mask.
“Dream…”
Tommy’s breath caught.
“But—”
“I’m only here to escort you out,” Dream said.
Tommy felt his heart sink as he lowered his head. He turned back to look at his house one last time before closing the door behind him.
The walk took almost an hour before they reached a portal. A sign above it read:
Logstedshire
Population: 0
Tommy sighed and stepped forward, but Dream spoke before he entered.
“Remember my threat, Tommy. No mercy.”
A shiver ran down Tommy’s spine. He stared at the portal, then finally walked through.
Logstedshire was quite forgotten, almost but strangely clean, as if someone had been taking care of it. Tommy brushed it off and gathered sticks to start a fire. As he sat there, staring up at the stars and feeling the warmth, his thoughts began to spiral.
Why…? After everything we’ve been through, why would he exile me like that? I thought he’d stay by my side to the fucking end…
Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t notice the bone-rattling monster behind him until he heard a twig snap. Then the sound of bones shifting.
Tommy spun around to see a skeleton aiming at him. It fired an arrow grazed his cheek and shot into the fire. Instinctively, Tommy reached for his sword, only to remember Dream had taken all of his weapons before he left L’Manburg.
The skeleton aimed again. It fired.
Something blocked the arrow.
Tommy opened his eyes to see a long black cloak. In it stood someone only a bit taller than him. In a blur, the stranger rushed the skeleton and cut it down in a single strike.
The stranger stood still, shoulders rising and falling heavily. Before Tommy could speak, the person asked, voice shaky:
“A-are y-you alright, kid?”
He turned slightly, and Tommy’s heart skipped a beat.
The stranger wore a porcelain mask cracked and faded, but unmistakable.
Tommy stepped back.
“D-Dream?! What the fuck are you doing here!?” he yelled, fists raised.
But what the man said next chilled him even more.
“Huh? … How do you know my name?” he asked, tilting his head, not fully facing Tommy.
“What do you mean HOW do I know your name?! You’re the one who got me exiled!” Tommy shouted, rage building in his chest.
But it all dropped away when the man responded.
“Wait… you were exiled? Why would they exile a kid?”
Tommy froze.
“The fuck? What’s going on, Dream?”
The stranger slowly raised his hands and turned fully toward him, revealing an arrow embedded in his shoulder.
“I… don’t know who you are or how you know my name. But it looks like you’ve been exiled here, just like I have.” He pulled his hood down, suddenly serious. “Let me guess… it was Nightmare, wasn’t it?”
Tommy’s jaw dropped.
Nightmare? Who the fuck is Nightmare?
